Clorox: "Decision not to advertise on political talk shows"
Cites shows which "distort" facts to "blatantly partisan advantage"; Scope remains unclear
Clorox Inc. appears to be following in the footsteps of WalMart, by announcing it would be no longer "advertise on political talk shows". Clorox said they "do not want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show hosts". The scope of this new policy remains unclear. WalMart itself told DefendGlenn.com on August 19th that it was removing "all advertising" from cable news talk, which we were led to understand meant EVENING shows, including MSNBC and some CNN shows. Clorox has not yet elaborated to us WHICH shows would face this new policy, but the company is sure to catch hell if they show ANY commericals on one of those shows from here on out.
.....
If this decision mirrors that made by WalMart this will once again hurt MSNBC much worse than FoxNews, since MSNBC's fledgling shows will have a much harder time finding replacements. Glenn Beck's show is the highest rated show on Fox among the critical 24-54 demo, and garners TWICE as many viewers as Olbermann and Maddow COMBINED.

Makes sense that bleach would go with whitewash
So freedom of speech is wanted to be directed by advertisers? Like we will tell you content or we’ll go take our marbles somewhere else to play? Other than talk radio where else would people want to hear about Clorox as in nobody has ever heard of that company before .....
Well they can certainly choose who to sponsor. Freedom of speech doesn’t equal the right for your speech to be paid for. On the other hand are free to show the sponsors what we think about their chickening out.
WE are free...
"..DefendGlenn.com contacted officials at WalMart in Bentonville, including David Tovar, the representative quoted in Color of change's well-hyped press release. They confirmed that WalMart, which was not even a sponsor of Glenn Beck's show on FoxNews Channel to begin with, has pulled its ads from ALL CABLE NEWS TALK SHOWS as of August 3rd, as a direct response to this "controversy". Tovar stated their reason for pulling all ads from "commentary broadcasts" was to "avoid polarizing our customers". This includes CNN and MSNBC. ALL PULLED..."
No this is just a natural side effect. If people are going to boycott advertisers for the content of shows they advertise in then advertisers are going to be careful about the content of shows they advertise in.
So where were these clowns at during the Bush administration? Funny how nobody raises a stink until conservatives do it. Just like with the stupid 527 groups in the 2004 election. Nobody said a damn about the 527s until the Swift Boaters got involved, then you heard all this baloney about “well we need to crack down on this divisive speech and groups blah blah blah”
Where was the conscience of these Companies when the majority of the main stream media called George W. Bush liar, Nazi, stupid, racist, etc.?
I WAS a Clorox customer.
I can live without Clorox and Walmart.
Barkeeper’s Friend is a much better product. Meijer is head and shoulders above Walmart in quality, shopping experience, cleanliness, and, most of the time, price.
(And you don’t have to walk around hearing kids yelling “hey, uncle dad!”)
.....we were on the same thought track..
This has unintended consequences as they are pulling their ads from MSNBC and CNN while Fox is still raking in the money for their other shows.
As long as they do it across the board, I have no problem. It is their money and they have a right to choose not to advertise on political shows. MSNBC and CNN are not going to be happy now which makes me happy.
Ya, well figured. Rush says boycotts really don’t work but an email to the company to list our thoughts on their decision might help - just saying ....
I don’t think most boycotts work. It all depends on how many people participate. I’m generally too lazy. I shop for quality, price and convenience, adding politics into the mix just makes things complicated.
For commodity products like liquid bleach, gotta wonder why the brand name commands the premium it does.
Sodium hydroxide is Clorox ... that’s what I buy, generic brands. I don’t buy brand names. I make my own stuff up at home. Example is 30 Second Cleaner which is nothing but bleach+TSP ... you can make it for pennies where a gallon costs $10. Same too with tile cleaner, a quarter cup of bleach to a quart of water. A few pennies vs almost five dollars.
Were had Beck been all week?
Because the people that buy by brand trust the brand. You pay more for trust. Some folks just don’t really pay attention to how simple a product is and the fact that nobody could screw it up.
Headline?
Radical Hushlims push boycott beyond Limbaugh.
We're Isflamists. We Reject Truth.
"Isflamists, may our Flam be with you, are offended by the blasphemy of truth against our Flam!"
Clorox has a lot more products out there than just bottled bleach. Some of it’s pretty good too. I worry about mixing my own, especially when bleach is involved, a lot of really nasty chemicals can be made with 2 household cleaners, and in almost all of those formulas one is bleach.
No lye?
>>I shop for quality, price and convenience, adding politics into the mix just makes things complicated.<<
.
I’ll eat to that.
Sodium hypochlorite is common household bleach. Sodium hydroxide is lye.
I used to boycott stuff, until I realized how inconvenient it was for me, and one of the main businesses (Bookmans, mostly great used bookstore in AZ which has a few really annoying business habits) I was boycotting opened two more locations in town, then it dawned on me who was really being punished. So I stopped.
This story tells me that our calls and letters to sponsors really do make a difference. These two companies don’t want to lose the business of right or left so they are pulling out early.
They must be expecting a huge backlash over something.....wonder what issue has scared them out?
I sent Clorox a scathing email and actually got a response. They basically said they were not going to advertise on political talk shows. And then they directed me to their products. LOL!! CO
Ok - had my sodium’s mixed up ... thanks.
Yep, got told the right stuff .. had my sodium’s mixed up ...
Used to watch McGiver (sp) ... he did a lot in that area ....
Wouldn’t it just be lovely if the left cut the throat of CNN and MSNBC with this silly boycott? I’m laughing just thinking about it!
Trying to keep track of companies political leaning is a pain;easier just to buy what is the best price and quality for me.Besides, the no-name outfits spend way less on advertising .
Not a big surprise. Clorox is headquartered in Oakland, CA. Alameda County is one of the most liberal areas in the nation.
Clorox is for turning stuff white. They be racist.
All a part of the SPIN cycle.
And for heaven's sakes, freepers, start thinking and stop dithering. So you DON'T boycott a product. That doesn't stop you from writing a blue dart to the company and telling them you're boycotting his bird seed or frozen chow mein.
We've simply got to stop simpering around and use the tactics of the Left. Their chattels still buy any products they want even when they hate the evil, capitalistic company, but when the clarion call of their masters go out to them, they hop right to it in writing their nasty boycott letters.
Too many conservatives are "above all that".
Leni
Believe me I do(!!!!) send letters to companies ... had received lots of coupons in the mail from them too. I give then to our local food bank ....
i don’t think the loss of sponsers has anything to do with people buying or not buying the products. This is the higher ups getting pressure from those behind the scenes in government, the real powers that be, that Glenn appears to be close to unmasking.
The article included this statement:”...once-strong brands such as Olbermann...” Is this true? I do not recall Olbermann ever having a share anywhere near to anyone on FOX News.
Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) is Clorox.
Cheers!
Yeah, got them wrong but thanks!
Clorox's active ingredient sodium hypochlorite.
Thanks! Several FreePers have mentioned that ... the hydroxide for some reason popped into my brainbox .....
You know what also good
Walgreens essential cleaning products they are good
I think a moose bit his sister.
I never thought I would do this; but I am actually looking to see if any of these advertisers are on the products I buy. If they are; I don’t buy them.
I used to participate in boycotts but stopped. I finally figured out that since crap always rolls downhill that all I was doing was hurting the regular person like me when the company had to cut back due to low sales.
I work for one of those companies that are being boycotted and the end result is that people like me are the ones that end up getting hurt. My employer treats us good and we make a good wage but we also have NO say in the decisions regarding advertising and marketing.
I don’t bite the hand that feeds me regardless of how I feel about some of the decisions they make. I can’t see putting regular Americans out of work by boycotting the products they make. There are a lot of good conservatives like me that depend on jobs these companies provide.
Yup, did so much of it it’s a verb in many circles (”I totally McGyvered that”). Great show. And some of his things, not many but some, actually work in the real world.
I’m not dithering, I just realized most of the places I was boycotting weren’t missing my money nearly as much as I was missing their products. I’m not sure lying to a company and saying I’m boycotting them when I’m not is really a path towards a more moral country.
