GREENCASTLE -- Two heavyweights on the national political scene -- Howard Dean, who recently completed a four-year term as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and Karl Rove, the former chief political adviser to President George W. Bush -- are coming to DePauw University on Sept. 11. In a Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture, the two men will engage in a debate on "America in 2009: Challenges and Opportunities." The program will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium of the Green Center for the Performing Arts (605 S. College Avenue).
Like all Ubben Lectures, the program is free and open to all. Seating is general admission and no tickets are required.

Two big government advocates fighting over how fast and big to grow the government.
The only difference is Dean will for sure say something loony. That would be the only reason I would tune in

Wow...talk about your battle of wits with an unarmed person!!!
Rove will mop the floor with him...absolutely.
(Unless,of course,Dean lets out one of his ear-splitting girly-screams and momentarily disorients Rove....LOL)

Let me guess. Rove will need a ton of security protection, will get screamed at (by the audience), and various nefarious technical problems will occur with his mike. Howie will be treated like a rock star.

Dean had better bring a big hat because Rove will hand him his ass in it. The Screacher is ill-tempered and undisciplined and will crack up.

Why?
Rove, the 'architect', is a big government 'player' too....I have to mute him on Fox.
Personally, I wouldn't walk across the street to hear him.
I'm tired of being pandered to....
..& he's a master pander.
To: shankbear
I hope Dean brings his Mommy, because he will be crying for her before this debate is over.

How can this be? Who in their right mind would allow Howard Dean to embarrass himself like this?
I remember watching Howard Dean try to state his positions in the democrat primary debate when he ran for POTUS - he sounded like a male version of Cindy Sheehan and had absolutely NO concept of economics.

Depauw is in Greencastle, Indiana, a conservative area. It’s about 20 minutes or so from my parents. I’d be shocked if it went down the way you put it, but I could be wrong...

” will get screamed at (by the audience), and various nefarious technical problems will occur with his mike. “
You forgot the prospect of a ‘neutral, fair&balanced’ moderator, who will allow Dean to talk-over Rove (any bets Rove will finish a sentence all evening?), and, in a pinch, jump in to bail Dean out when he’s being overmatched....

Just a few small questions:
Will this debate have a Moderator?
What “Mainstream” News organization will this Moderator be from?
Where will the questions and topics come from? Will they have to be submitted in advance or can the debaters go at it free-form?
To: Military family member
Howard Dean is a heavy weight in the room reserved for those that wear jackets where the sleeves cross in the front.
(and to think about this guy having a medical license...)

But if that's how you feel, trying to reason with you won't make a whole lot of difference, I guess.

Well, I'm certainly glad that you "feel" Rove is a "traitor." That allows for such intelligent debate. /sarc.
As for my always supporting an "R" - you're about as right there as you are about Rove.
So I guess you're batting .000
