The town hall protests have undoubtedly breathed life into the GOP's opposition on health care. But while the leaders speaking at the GOPAC convention were drawing applause by calling for tort reform and the right to pool risk across state lines, the press narrative and the party base were turned into former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin's Facebook posts, where she railed against so-called "death panels" and White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel's brother.
The Republicans who spoke with POLITICO were loathe to criticize the protesters or Palin, but seemed to recognize that the party isn't so much leading a grass-roots movement as it is hitching itself to an emotional backlash against the Obama administration.

Privatization + Inter-State Sales + Individual Policies + Tort Reform = Healthcare Reform
I can't imagine another way out that will not draw us into the disastrous slippery slope that will be co-ops or "expanded medicaid" or other euphemisms...we need to privatize, make portable and drive down costs by opening a free market that means that the 3 companies selling insurance in MD would have to compete with the 46 in PA.
Performance based outcomes will propel the better providers to the top and the market will sort out the lesser programs. 25% of the "uninsured" are "the invincibles" (the 18-25 year olds) that feel no need to buy insurance...if they do not buy insurance they can contract with private fee for service firms that will compete and possibly make loans or give them credit for procedures.
The higher risk 50-65 uninsured (ineligible for medicare, but struggle with no coverage, low income, job loss or pre-existing conditions) get assigned to a "risk pool" that better performing insurers will ultimately compete for, because they are able compete for them at reduced rates, giving them good coverage and reasonable rates.
The elderly will be covered by medicare and the indigent will be treated pro-bono by participating hospitals. I would like to see THAT pool covered by University Hospitals, many of whom have billion dollar grants behind the universities and should make use of the interns and younger doctors to keep the indigent covered, much as many law firms do.
Kill the bill. No compromise.
And the GOP grew a set of balls too. NOT!
If Obama, the Dems, the RINOS and special interests are defeated, you can rest assured that it will not be because of the GOP!

One thing that I’ve learned from the past two election cycles: the GOP is about the most worthless bunch of chair-warmers that I’ve seen in a very long time.
They have literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory time and again. They are not trustworthy as an organization, they have sold us all out.

CONSERVATISM, NOT THE GOP, is gaining steam, and the “GOP leadership” is going to be overthrown and replaced with CONSERVATIVES.

No she’s not. The American people (many conservatives) are the driving force. She’s an important spokeswoman but this began before she made a statement. I am a supporter, but I refuse to credit anyone other than the People for the primary role here and I think she’d agree.
As for the GOP, wow, someone realized they are just benefiting by default? Wasn’t sure they were even that self aware. To Kirk, I would state the Republicans have found no voice. You are simply trying to co-opt our own or at least the bits you find “civil”. That would be fine, if I didn’t believe the end you have in mind is a watered down bill which is still objectionable.
Victory is defined as the death of Government taking a role in healthcare. Nothing more, nothing less. Some Republicans need to be educated on that point.

Its is painfully obvious that the RNC is run by MORONS, whose strategy apparently is to hide in the tall grass and DO NOTHING except to continue to collect their perks and privileges, albeit in a slightly diminished fashion.

GOP gaining steam?! Yeah, right. They’re huffing up to the tracks with with their bouncing pork-fed bellies lifting the silk shirts out of their $6K suit pants hoping to grab the hand rails on the caboose of the hi-balling train of a pissed off citizenry!
The GOP hasn’t come close to steam or warming the kettle up for a Tea Party!
At the next CPAC in February 2010, we will be there to shout down once and for all RINOS like MYTH SLICK WILLARD FLIP ROMNEY and his fellow travelers like Colin Powell.
We, the CONSERVATIVES, must take over the GOP and defend the CONSTITUTION.
And the ONLY reason the “GOP” is likely to be seen as winning this issue is because of conservatives turning out en masse in their districts to give the spineless congresscritters a piece of their minds—a move which the RINO faction of the GOP kept saying would turn into a backlash and get the damned thing passed.
Article 1 Section 8 lists all powers granted to Congress by the Constitution. Regulating health care is not expressly listed as a power. Health care legislation in any way, shape or form is unconstitutional. Discussion about such legislation needs to end immediately.
