Poll: GOP heavyweight Sarah Palin would lose in 2012 election against President Barack Obama
New York Daily News ^ | Tuesday, August 18th 2009 | Richard Sisk

Posted on 08/18/2009 2:19:48 PM PDT by presidio9

Sarah Palin can grab voters' attention whenever she wants, but they're not ready to put her in the White House – not by a long shot.

If the 2012 presidential election were held today, and Palin was the GOP candidate, she’d get wiped out by President Obama, a new Marist poll showed Tuesday.

Only 33% of registered voters would go for Palin compared to Obama’s 56%, with 11% undecided.

Obama would pull in 92% of Democrats and Palin would get 73% of Republicans.

The President would clean Palin’s clock among amost all voting groups.

Independents would go 49% to 34% for Obama, according to the poll of 854 registered voters with a margin of error of 3.5%.

Men went for Obama 54% to 36% and women by a wider margin: 58% to 30%.

Whites favored Obama 50% to 40%, African-Americans by 99% to 1%, and Latinos 62% to 27%.

The only region where Palin held Obama under 50% was the South -- where Obama had 49% to 38% margin.

Reminds me of Reagan’s numbers in 1977 against Carter in a hypothetical matchup. Not to worry!

Nope.

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil" - Sarah Palin, August 8, 2009

"We face challenging times with some hell-bent on tearing down our nation by perpetuating pessimism and apologizing for America. They suggest that our best days were yesterdays. But how can this pessimism exist? Proof of our greatness and pride is all around us today. We produce proud and great volunteers who sacrifice everything for their country.

"We can resist enslavement to big central government that crushes hope and opportunity. We must be wary of government largesse. It doesn’t come free and often accepting it takes away everything that is free. Melting into Washington’s powerful and caretaking arms will only lead to suck away the incentive to work hard and chart our own course. This will only contribute to an unstable economy and dizzying national debt, and it will make us less free.

"We don’t have to feel that we must beg an allowance from Washington – except to beg the allowance to be self-determined.

"See, in order to be self-sufficient (we) must be allowed to develop, to drill and build and climb to fulfill our promise! We can not start believing that government is the answer. It can’t make you happy or healthy or wealthy or wise. What can? It is the wisdom of the people and our families and our small businesses and industrious individuals. And it is God’s grace helping those who help themselves." - Sarah Palin, July 26, 2009
SARAH'S FAREWELL SPEECH AS GOVERNOR - GREAT READ

Sarah has now initiated her brilliant flanking manuever against the left, the DNC, the MSM and the RINOs that has them all in a frenzy wondering what her next move will be and how it will be perceived...and has them frothing at the mouth in their efforts to discredit her.

Sarah will now get her book out, go on tour, give speeches and promote conservatie principles all over this country in the midst of the Obama administration disaster and gain great political capital in the process. Then she will support conservative candidates in 2010 and help them win, amassing much more political capital. She will then take all of that and make an awesome, stunning run for the Presidency in 2012.

"...like that grizzly guards her cubs, as a mother naturally guards her own. I will keep that vow wherever the road may lead." - Sarah Palin, July 26, 2009

If this is from the marist-ABC poll, then the people at Conservatives 4 Palin have an interesting note: "The Marist poll that ABC is reporting on was run from August 3rd through August 6th. It it now August 18th. I'm pretty sure some things happened between August 6th and August 18th. Namely, Palin got into the Obamacare debate and support for Obamacare plummeted." If the presidential election were held today, it wouldn’t be 2012, now would it?

To even *run* this poll smacks of fear and despair. Watching what is happening to Bambi, I’m sure the MSM is seriously worried about their kingmaking ability going forward. Good!

African-Americans by 99% to 1%

Sorry. This is simply not believable. Given the chance to vote for a true conservative, rather than a RINO like McCain, I think African-Americans would prefer him or her to Obama. Why do I believe this? Because 70% of them voted for Prop 8, California's defense of marriage initiative.

I disagree. Obama won due to his ability to uplift people and that is what is needed over the next several years. Sarah has that ability, more so than O. They have figured it out and that is why they are so terrified of her. And terrified is not too strong a word.

Please keep in mind that she was on the national stage for only 9 weeks. In that 9 weeks she left a massive, deep footprint.

In my life, I have never seen a politician do what she has done. Not Reagan, Not Ike, no one. She is good to go.

We know the ONLY reason why they did this BS poll is because Obama is already down to 42 percent approval according to gallop poll. By this time in 2012, I guarantee you, Spongebob Squarepants could beat him in a landslide, with Patrick Starr as his running mate.

"This survey of 938 United States residents was conducted on August 3rd through August 6th, 2009. Residents 18 years of age and older were interviewed by telephone. Telephone numbers were selected based upon a list of telephone exchanges from throughout the nation. The exchanges were selected to ensure that each region was represented in proportion to its population. To increase coverage, this land-line sample was supplemented by respondents reached through random dialing of cell phone numbers. The two samples were then combined. Results are statistically significant at ±3.2%. There are 854 registered voters. The results for this subset are statistically significant at ±3.5%. There are 310 Republicans Including Republican Leaning Independents. The results for this subset are statistically significant at ±5.5%. The error margin increases for cross-tabulations."

For the math challenged this means that the percentage of Republicans and Republican leaning independents is 36% of registered voters and 33% of the sample. It also means that real Republicans make up probably less than 25% of the sample when Rasmussen shows Republicans beating Democrats in the generic poll by a few percentage points.

Marist is useless and dishonest.

Exactly, not only did all of DC, including the "media conservatives" pooh pooh, Reagan, even many elected Republicans believed he was "unelectable," a "light-weight," and not a "serious candidate."

I'm beginning to dislike all in the "punditry" class, whether or not they consider themselves a "conservative."

What is meant by "conservative" by all those on the East Coast and DC never, ever equates with "real conservatism in America."

I heard one here after an election, look out at the audience and quietly proclaim, "Who are all of 'these people,'" at her own county election night party.

Even after Reagan was elected, many in DC made fun of him.

They (elected Republicans and RNC "biggies") felt that he was "not up to the job."

He continued to surprise and shock them winning a total landslide in '84.

But this is 2009, not 2012. There’s no way to tell what the electorate’s preferences will be in 2012. This poll has as much to do with Obama’s popularity in 2012 as one done in the summer of 2001 would have to do with Bush’s popularity in either 2004 or 2008. Which is to say, not much!
