Rep. Massa (D-NY) on Healthcare: “I will vote adamantly against the interests of my district…”
WHAM-TV, Rochester NY ^ | 8/17/09 | Reported by: Sean Carroll

Posted on 08/17/2009 7:59:42 PM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

The words of a local congressman on the issue of healthcare are coming under scrutiny.

Democrat Eric Massa told a group in Pennsylvania that he would vote against the interests of his constituents on healthcare reform if he believes what he's voting for would be helpful to them.

Massa has held dozens of town hall meetings, many focused on healthcare, but this past weekend while in Pittsburgh, meeting with the grassroots progressive political action group Net Roots Nation, Massa answered questions about where he stands on healthcare reform versus where his constituents stand.

"I will vote adamantly against the interests of my district if I actually think what I'm doing is going to help them....I will vote against their opinion if I actually believe it will help them," Massa said.

May he be voted out ASAP. Why does he think he’s there in the first place, for HIS paycheck?

more importantly: he is against the interests of freedom and the US constitution

Isn’t there any grounds against what this guy just stated to toss him out now? Emergency vote in his district to oust him? I wish I knew every law there was out there, this is so frustrating.....

There are times when representatives and senators need to take a hard vote and vote the opposite way their constituents want. In the case of the constituents wanting something illegal, unconstitutional, immoral or something otherwise unsound. There is plenty of support behind this principle from the founding fathers. Of course they would only say it is valid when the office holder is voting for something that is truly the better thing (not what we are discussing now).

This guy is 180 degrees out of whack. He’s going to vote for something that he believes will help them but will actually hurt them. The people legitimately need to toss him out the next election and use his own words for the ad - but you have to explain in the ad WHY him doing so is wrong, because in THIS case it HURTS, not HELPS. IE Socialized medicine everywhere is a expensive failure that rations care to control costs, and we have no evidence that Congress can perfect something no other nation has. We have tons of evidence Congress screws up everything it sets up. That is why he’s wrong in this case.

Massa was interviewed today on the Lou Dobbs radio program. Lou asked him - how do you feel now that your air cover is gone since Obama has pulled the gov’t control plan. Massa says- I don’t need no air cover, I drove boats-.
He sure was one adamant guy on goverment controlled healthcare.

You forgot Joe Sestak (D-PA) running against Arlen Specter.

Massa is a first term congressman. The district was held by Republicans for nearly 20 years.

Nope, wayyyy too late. It should never have had a chance to even happen. They've been very upfront about their kookery for some time. I'm afraid they will bring the entire country down before they can be ousted.

Sestak duped people by touting his long military service. People equate MILITARY with conservative, dem or Pubbie, even though murthless murtha was once a Marine; Webb is a flake; Graham is a Rino; McSlain is, well, I don’t know what he is; In No Way is a flaming liberal; Skerry was in Vietnam, doncha know, a real fake hero putz and a gigolo to boot; more like dat.
They get into office and manage to stay there for damn near ever.
I don’t know how Graham got re-elected last term after supporting amnesty. Murtha should be in jail. McSlain should be....retired without honors. Skerry should be wandering the halls of Heinz munching theresa’s raisins.
And sestak reminds me of the villains in Land of the Lost.
In No Way brings home the bacon, I guess. NONE of them ought to be where they are.
Sorry. I just can’t stand it.

OK, but I am feeling much better now than three weeks ago.

1) the fact that the Senate had to take out the "death panels" means they know WE know

2) the public is acutely aware of what's going on, and if some of the House members have been "bought off" by O or intimidated, but there is much more pressure on senators, because it's a 6-year wait to try again, and many of them are so conceited as to they they are entitled to those jobs.

3) the name calling by the Left tells me we are getting very, very close. They are coming unhinged. MY GREATEST FEAR NOW IS THAT THEY WILL COMPROMISE SOMETHING, ANYTHING, TO GET IT 'INTO LAW.' I WANT THEM TO FIGHT FOR THEIR DAMN BILL SO THAT THE PUBLIC REACTION IS OVERWHELMING AND TOTAL IN 2010 AND 2012.
