Text of President Obama's address to VFW convention in Phoenix
KTAR ^ | 8/17/2009

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, I am honored and humbled to stand before you as Commander-in-Chief of the finest military the world has ever known. And we're joined by some of those who make it the finest force in world-from Luke Air Force Base, members of the 56th Fighter Wing.

Whether you wear the uniform today, or wore it decades ago, you remind us of a fundamental truth. It's not the powerful weapons that make our military the strongest in the world. It's not the sophisticated systems that make us the most advanced. No, the true strength of our military lies in the spirit and skill of our men and women in uniform.

If he really believes this teleprompter BS why do we need to read every terrorist his rights upon capture? I know the VFW had to let him speak, but as a Lifetime VFW member I am really pissed that asshats like this guy and Clinton get to speak in front of that organization.

What an assclown. We have an assclown as a CINC! They must have to poll before doing something like this because inside former military circles that Kenyan is not very popular!

What a freaking liar, I would not believe he believed this if his tongue came notarized.

This statement has as much credibility from his mouth as me saying I am really 25.

He is Commander in Chief of our military all right. A position that goes with being elected president.

Every VFW member in that Hall is more qualified to be CIC than this clown, but it does go with the job.

By definition, I don’t think narcissists can be honored (because they think they are entitled to everything they get, and more).

They certainly cannot be humbled...

“Cannot be humbled” — yes, but didn’t he NOT get any applause? That’s just wonderful. Gotta love the VFW.

Appreciate the link, but what's the point?

There was nothing said of any value, as per usual.

“It’s not the powerful weapons that make our military the strongest in the world.”

Says the idiot who is canceling our weapons programs. Actually, good equipment has a LOT to do with it.

He would say the rest wanted to applaud, but their hands were too busy clinging to guns and religion.

I found the Dear Leader's address to the Veteran of Foreign Wars Convention at the Phoenix Convention Center to be uncharacteristically similar to several speeches given by the previous Commander In Chief (though much more smoothly delivered). While I disagree with what he had to say on a few points (cut funding for the ABL? WTF?) , I was in complete agreement with much of his message, such as his remarks on the war in Afghanistan:
The insurgency in Afghanistan didn't just happen overnight and we won't defeat it overnight. This will not be quick, nor easy. But we must never forget: This is not a war of choice. This is a war of necessity. Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which al Qaeda would plot to kill more Americans. So this is not only a war worth fighting. This is a -- this is fundamental to the defense of our people.
Damn right it is, Mr. President. And it's heartening to hear you say it out loud.

Kudos to president Obama for his tough and realistic words today.
