In recent days, the media has remarked extensively on the concern that President Obama’s life might be threatened by various hate groups and ostracized conservatives. It is true that assassinations have a strong historical precedent, and that a good cause attracts everyone, unfortunately even some whackos. (John Brown, for instance, comes to mind for Abolitionism.) Unfortunately, the situation isn’t as simple as the media wants to make it.
As his health care program grinds to a halt in the face of a minority opposition in congress and he is less and less able to deliver on all of the massive promises he made during the election, Obama is in increasing danger of violence from both sides of the fringe political spectrum. The simple fact is that as the years wear on, he may become more useful to the Radical Left as a dead symbol than as a living president.
American history has seen a couple of examples of an assassination resulting in what I label the “Kennedy Factor.” Abraham Lincoln became the first in 1865, but John F. Kennedy himself is the more dramatic example. Before his murder, in domestic policy, Kennedy was ineffective at best, and in fact could not even successfully manage a Democrat-controlled Congress. Many of his best known programs, like the Peace Corps, had to be accomplished by executive order.

Hence anyone who disagrees with the stimulus, or the health care bill, or the disappearance of two trillion dollars, or the nationalization of the auto industry, is a racist and possibly a violent extremist. They are being quite explicit about this. Oh, and then they complain about the absence of civility.

I’ve noticed that a lot of high profile Dem journalists (yeah I know it’s redundant) have been talking about Obama being shot lately. It’s as though they are trying to plant an idea in some nut’s brain. Maybe they’ve decided that Obama is worth more to them dead.

What stands out is that they are exclusively radical leftist or anarchist, or mentally ill. Of course there may be insinuation that their Vice President is behind the plot, unless they were likewise a target. But such speculation has never been proven.
However, I suspect that Mr. Obama need not fear, unless one of his trusted, radical leftist, mentally ill lieutenants turns on him, because his phalanx of followers is deeply paranoid, and just as much about his political opposition and his political competition. For his part, he wisely keeps her out of the country much of the time.
Otherwise, the US Secret Service is a very dedicated and determined lot, a professional cadre who take their appointed commission very seriously.
I am reminded of Huey Long, the radical left demagogue governor of Louisiana, whose governing style was like Obama’s and who was ultimately assassinated.
In Obama’s case, such a thing would be the ultimate Reichstag fire to be relentlessly exploited by the radical left. Pray for Obama’s safety and health!!

The Dems can pass any health care package they want (as long as they assume total responsibility for it). The problem they face is the tidal wave of opposition from the People. But liberal elitists have a hard time seeing this through their fog of self delusion.

agreed...I fear if the extreme left cannot use him as an effective tool to advance their agenda, Plan B is to use him as a martyr. I don’t agree with the man on anything, but have no desire to see his spouse widowed or those little girls fatherless.

He’s such a terrible speaker and just says things without thinking. So I’m hoping he’ll say something so outrageously stupid that it will really make some people think again about what’s going on and end this fiasco.

I view the elevated publicity of such depraved suggestions by the miscreants as instigation, and it’s very disturbing both in the substance of the alarm and the political opportunism responsible for promoting the negative ideas.
I will pray for the President’s safety and the safety of the Secret Service responsible for his welfare. Some of us have a friend or a family member that are charged with the protection of top officials. Prayers to all.

because he is useless politically now, but if he were a martyr his “ideas” would be more powerful as a tool to them than he can actually be now is my guess.

In a slightly more rational vein, I don't think anyone can argue other than that the Dem party was totally transformed by the JFK assassination. Regardless what the commissions and panels insist on reporting, it was ONLY the radical left that benefited from Dallas, and that same radical left is quite comfortable pulling strings in the Democrat party today.
