President Barack Obama plans to speak at the annual VFW convention in Phoenix on Monday.
A speech before the nation's largest organization of combat veterans is a summertime tradition for presidents. Obama spoke to the group last year as a presidential candidate.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs has said that Obama will discuss the United States' responsibilities to maintain the world's finest military. Gibbs also says Obama will speak about the nation's responsibility to the men and women of the armed services when they return home from combat.
The president has been in Arizona since Saturday evening on the final leg of a swing through western states that included visits to national parks and town hall meetings. He toured the Grand Canyon with his family on Sunday.
This should be interesting.
Tar and feathers at the ready.
Does this guy ever shut up?
The National VFW Commander was on Fox and Friends this morning praising the 0bama administration for the many great advances made for our military since he took office .
I was stunned . . .
They’ll have the usual bussed-in crowd to cheer wildly at everything he says.
0bama will come praising veterans and be so sweet that sugar wouldn’t melt in his mouth, but I pray the Vets remember his true feelings that “veterans are a radical group”.
Most veterans love their country, he hates it.
I would like to see these innumerated. My acitve duty, in the sandbox, son would have a much different opinion.
NO this is closed to the public
Although the VFW National Convention is a closed event, the public is invited to watch live streaming video of convention activities starting everyday at 8 a.m., MST, Aug. 17-20. To view, go to www.vfw.org.
MEDIA NOTE: The VFW National Convention is not open to the public. Only registered and credentialed media from bona fide news organizations will be approved to cover convention activities.
Yep... Zero... who couldn’t bother to visit wounded soldiers last year when he was in Germany.
BARF!
Obama in Phoenix, Will There Be Violence Between Tea Baggers and Progressives?
(snip)
On Saturday, while president Obama was in Arizona visiting the Grand Canyon, the Arizona Democratic Party was having its official state meeting not far away in a city called Flagstaff. They passed a resolution calling for public option with eventual advancement toward single payer health care but apparently, although the president wasn’t far away at the Grand Canyon, he either wasn’t listening to their resolution or just ignored it because he had his H.H.S. secretary making statements later making statementts to the effect that a public option was not a crucial element.
The estimates are that there will be large amounts of the so called angry, thuggish Tea Baggers burning the president in effigy outside of where he makes his speech in Phoenix and now many are wondering, will these diametrically opposed groups agree to disagree or will the Tea Baggers launch into intimidating and violent behavior as they have done in the past?

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it."
Are they going to bus union ringers in dressed as veterans?
Another day another lie........
Yet another reason to never consider joining the VFW. Not that I needed another one.
They should turn their back on him, as he has turned his back on them.
I would love these old vets to stand up and turn their back on obamma when he gets up to speak! That would speak volumes!
I was, too! Especially when he was talking about Michelle showing support for military families!!!! I thought she wasn’t GOING to be like ‘other’ First Ladies and do that kinda stuff.
Obama will never know the pride of watching your father put on his Legion uniform and ride in a convertible on Veteran’s day and Memorial Day. In fact, I think he wouldn’t understand the concept.
Would that be “live Steaming video” when Obozo speaks?
Im assuming it is as they will stream the convention starting at 8am MST
I've been asking Alan Grayson’s office (8th District of Florida - Orlando) for weeks if and when he will hold a Town Hall meeting here in his district. I kept getting “We plan to have one, but we're not sure when and where - it will probably be the very last week of August. Watch the website for news on this.”
Finally, posted at 6:00PM yesterday (Sunday) with only 24 hours notice, Alan Grayson’s web site has announced that the Town Hall here in Orlando will be held tonight (Monday) at 7:45PM at the local IBEW Union Hall. Here's the announcement:
TO HOST HEALTH CARE TOWN HALL
August 17, 2009 7:45 PM
From Graysons website:
Congressman Alan Grayson will host a town hall meeting to discuss the need for health care reform, listen to concerns or answer questions from the constituents he serves, and debunk the many myths being circulated about the current proposals.
WHAT: Health Care Town Hall
WHEN: Monday, August 17, 2009, 7:45 p.m.
WHERE: IBEW Local 606 Union Hall
820 Virginia Drive
Orlando, FL
The Congressman intends for and expects this event to be a respectful and productive discussion.
This is the second public health care meeting the Congressman has held during the summer district work period. On July 27th, he met with about fifty members of his Health Care Advisory Board. The meeting was announced 72 hours in advance, open to the public, and promoted and covered by multiple media outlets.
The Congressman also will conduct a health care telephone town hall on Thursday, August 20th at 7 p.m. People interested in being a part of that event can sign up on the Congressmans website.
Will veterans be allowed to stand up and turn their back to Hussien when he speaks?
The ole “wrap myself in the flag” ploy. I understand why the VFW does this but REALLY wish they wouldn’t give guys like Obambi and Clinton, etc. a forum when they are NO FRIEND of the military...case in point: Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and how they REALLY want to repeal it. Imagine promotion ceremonies where the honoree gets a kissie from his “spouse”...great.
“Obama to speak at VFW convention in Phoenix (today, Aug 17)”
Great. He’ll probably be all over tv again.
Thinking about turning off the cable.
Hence I and my husband with 10 yrs and 30 yrs of service respectively will NOT join the VFW - EVER!
The VFW commander was on Fox this morning and he was bragging about what all Zero has done for the VFW. Made me want to puke.
I am a Viet Nam Vet. ,,,, drafted ,,,,, 13 months TOD ,,,, 173rd ABN. 1967 -1968 . Never joined the VFW or American Legion . Weren’t eligible back then ,,,, something about a police action and not a declared war or something like that . They didn’t need me then and I don’t need them now .
However I do support the V.A. and do volunteer work .
I hear ya - I support the DAV mostly - I’m not aware if they are pansy-a**es like VFW so I try to help them. Also support Wounded Warriors...

The biggest hole in that picture isn’t the Grand Canyon...
Wasn't it what's her face at Homeland Security declaring vets had the potential to be extremists, etc....
Napolitano the dyke? Yes, but she represents the administration and 0bammy didn't rush to dispute her.
Ya’ know, I never could figure out how all of these people were talking about how beautiful and sexy Michelle was. I want to thank you for posting this picture. I now see how beautiful and sexy Michelle is in an Aunt Esther sort of way....
The National VFW Commander was on Fox and Friends this morning praising the 0bama administration for the many great advances made for our military since he took office
