Crews dredging PCBs from the Hudson River on Friday ripped away remnants of what was once Britain's largest fort in Colonial America, a mistake that incensed local officials who had feared the cleanup project would damage such relics in the area.
Neal Orsini said he was awoken around 4 a.m. by the sound of dredging along his riverside property in Fort Edward, 45 miles north of Albany. Orsini said he later discovered that the dredgers had torn out the riverbank, along with two wooden beams that had been part of the original fort's waterfront bastion. A third beam was later found still buried at the site.

Environmentalist weenies pwn’d
Congratulations to the liberal envirowackjobs!
I can’t help but think that all that dredging stirs up the PCBs and sends them further downriver.
Whoever made this mistake should be held professionally and personnaly responsible.
You know that they are glad they destroyed it.
They look at the fort as part of that dead-white male construction that destroys the planet.
Breaking News: 235 year old fort destroyed! The planet survives! No reports injuries!
More evidence of the failure of single payer government run fort care....

Oh no it’s the dreaded impatient left mouse button click DOUBLE POST!
Come now, old chap, it was a BRITISH fort... isn’t it high time we let go of those relics and acted like our own country? [/British-accent]
300 years of history washed away by the EPA.
oh great
Now we get to replace it with a fort "made in China" ....
Surely a fish must have died somewhere as a result of the fort being destroyed.
Pull out the remaining beam, and next July 4 use it all as fuel for a bonfire!
Blame it on Obama. He has it in for the British
Nah... Cuba.
The 0ne has to support his friends, right?
Union workers, right?
“Whoever made this mistake should be held professionally and personnaly responsible.”
What did that sign on Harry Truman’s desk say? The buck stops at Joe Biden’s desk?
It seems that there was some confusion between GE crews and the pre-project archaeological review - which has to be done before any project goes into the water, be it for dredging, oil exploration, gas extraction, etc. Someone screwed up big time.
Colonial Ping
Blame it on Obama...etc..

C’mon. Deep in your heart of hearts you know it was BUSH’S fault.
beat me to it, you did :)
Good lookin’ out anyway NVA.
Some of us would think that West Point is the most important historical structure on the river, and that there is a lot more of it that can be viewed by people interested in historic sites.
your neck of the river? ping
“The work was halted for several days this month after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notified the company that PCB levels downriver from the dredging were above federal drinking water safety standards.”
So basically these idiots have stirred up decades of sediment encapsulated PCB’s and re-polluted the river with them. Brilliant strategy. They’re also doing it during one of the wettest years in decades so they have faster river flows to deal with blasting it further down the river.
Also, what about those famous “oil eating” microbes... why couldn’t this stuff be destroyed in situ?
Nope, I’m wayyyy south although there are a lot of New Yorkers down here in Florida.
Interesting thread though.
Sorry Man...I faultily remember you as one speaking on Hudson River things with a high degree of familiarity.
My Bad.
