Just back from Anthony Weiner townhall
8/13/2009

Posted on 08/13/2009 2:09:10 PM PDT by GreaterSwiss

About 30 people there. Many were a little disturbed the event was not advertised. Nothing on his home page, etc. A mailing went out with the wrong time (an hour earlier).

About 25 people were AGAINST the health care bill, only 5 for it. One guy who was for it, a retired cop (about age 42) kept on saying doctors shouldn't make profit. Talking to him, he didn't seem like a cop, maybe a meter maid...

Weiner said he doesn't agree with the health bill in the current form, he wants medicare for all (100% government, not a slow march). Also kept on mentioning two tidbits:

1. You are frozen in your current insurance for 5 years. Companies can not change their insurance at all. Notice 5 years = 4 years to Obama's re-election then the surprise...

2. Payment should be by sickness not procedure. So you have a kidney stone operation and they would give the doctor 5k. Any less it costs the doctor is profit. Any more is a mark against him. Someone asked wouldn't doctors not want to treat hard cases? Avoided answer.

For the 30 people there was 2 cops there..

doctors shouldn't make profit?

He evidently hasn't read the bill. Sounds like a "paid" plant for sure.

Union cop retired at age 42? Nice work if you can get it.

The new talking points is it is unethical for providers to make a profit providing healthcare.

Great job that you went and thanks. What is the district like? 25 to 5 is about 5 to 1 against.

A retired cop (who swore an oath to the constitution) who thinks doctors should not make a profit? God forbid there are too many like him...such foot soldiers will be used by the marxists to try and enforce their command economy (in health care and everywhere else) on the rest of us.

The guy sounds like a good marxist foot soldier too.

What amuses me is how many sheeple in this country still Trust the government to do what is best for them and to keep them safe.
.
FACT: The Government can only always be trusted to take your money and rights away from you.
.
Any government form is flawed as it is composed as many flawed individuals who are not good people. From the DMV clerk with an attitude, the City council member who taking kickbacks from the country clubbers, to the senator who is taking money from PACs, all of the way to the president who is taking money from companies like G.E.
.
When will people learn that you need government but you need to be vigilant and limit their powers at every turn. We need to also teach people the common ideal that when you let or expect people to take care of a certain aspect of your life you lose some of your freedom. For every sugar coated promise a politician makes there is a equal price to pay in lost control, money or freedom over our own lives.
.
The Instant Gratification ME, ME, ME culture of today’s society feeds directly to the politician’s sweet saccharine promises of how the government is going to take care of them. There used to be a time when people used to have enough pride in themselves that if you gave someone a free meal they would see to it that they would return the favor because they felt if they didn’t they would be viewed a selfish loser. We used to bear the burden of our families and help take care of our grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, cousins and children. These days those responsibilities are dropped upon the government who ends up doing a sub standard job of doing so. The politicians don’t mind this, in fact they love this dependency on their special programs, they gain power in political capital which ensures that they get re-elected each term. These guaranteed votes allow them to be as corrupt as they want as they no longer fear reprisal. They no longer fear reprisal because they they have large voting block dependent on them.
.
Put it this way, when you were a kid and were totally dependent on your parents and your parents grounded you, did you have the power to stand up against them in any meaningful way? No you didn’t.
.
Same with the government, the more of your life they control and make you dependent on them, the more they can get away with.
.
.
The Government has so much of this control that they are no longer accountable to their own actions. It doesn’t surprise me that they would black out information and manipulate documents even when it comes to a promise of transparency. They are all a bunch of corrupt schmucks because we let them be that way. Maybe if we are to be a ME ME ME generation who acts like children, then we really deserve Big Brother or Father watching over until we grow and wake up. What is the German word for Father again????
.
We all have inherent human rights, the government’s role is not to GRANT you rights, the role of government is to RESTRICT your actions when they infringe upon other people’s rights. But people these days think that the government is their parents handing out things like rights, privileges and safety.
.
Maybe we deserve exactly what we got.

Did he repeat this statement? "Single-payer is a better plan and now it is on center stage. Americans have a clear choice. Their Member of Congress will have a simpler, less expensive and smarter bill to choose. I am thrilled that the Speaker is giving us that choice.”

I notice this vermin is also on energy and commerce, which means he was one of the people trying to foist crap-and-trade on us.

That's called "capitation" and is one of the primary reasons driving the unpopularity and ultimate demise of HMO's.

HMO's work great as long as providers make money (i.e. you don't get sick). You get "surfed" and "turfed" (i.e. run off without care) when the providers will lose money treating you.

What if I think that cops shouldn't make a profit, but should volunteer their labor for free (or be drafted if there aren't enough unpaid volunteers)? The certainly shouldn't get a retirement because that's just back door profiting from police work.

< sarcasm on the volunteer police, serious about telling people against medical profits that their job should be unpaid >

Anarchy no good for anyone but big thieves. Government is a vital part of civilization remove it and the animals take over.

We have the government we have because the People wanted it.
Until the People change we have an uphill task creating a responsible government. It should be noted that state governments are no better, if not worse.

A third of the People are stone Socialists, maybe a fifth conservative and the rest don’t know what the hell they believe. Way too many of all three groups want something for nothing.

How about cops who make six figures on details that didn’t even go to Community College? I think they should do those details for free to keep costs down.

I didn’t say that was a bad thing. In fact, it is a good thing.

I am not pro anarchy, I am more anti-nanny-big-brother government.

Unfortunately, it the demand for protection of “rights” which has led to the big government. Now, we are being told we have a “right” to health care and a “right” to marry Bob and Ted to each other.

Confusion about what a real right is has become deadly to freedom.

“Little Anthony” Weiner probably held the “Town Hall” purposely in secret, notifying only a few buddies. You could have rounded up 30 people in Brooklyn at a moment's notice for an event just by announcing it on nearby streets. By drawing such a small crowd, he can make the (false) claim that his constituents have no interest. Plus, he avoided the confrontations with anti-ObamaCare protesters that his fellow ‘Rats contended with.

The “no profit” or “remove profit” is right out of Altas Shruged. The book had this scientific think tank developed for the removal of profit from science.

Eventually the only people who will be doctors will be the rejects to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Then police officers should just get room, board and meals and no additional pay. They're there for the public good. Right?

Fools.

Doctor’s don’t get $5K for a kidney stone and what happened to Capitalism? Perhaps that cop is willing to just get by day-to-day and work for someone else (government) but some people are willing to live on beans and franks and work around the clock hours for 16 years to get the education required to heal the sick, and after all that the last thing they should HAVE to do is work for the freaking government.
