Omaha Police rush to the Gifford Park Neighborhood after a caller reported a man, walking his dog, and carrying a big gun. The call was made on Monday, August 3rd shortly after 5PM.
It did not take officers long to track down a suspect. When they approached the 51-year old man he had his dog on a leash, and had a silver handgun in a leather holster around his waist.
When officers approached the man he allegedly told them he carries the gun around town on a regular basis, and it was his way of making a political statement.
He then asked to speak to the officers' supervisor.
After speaking with an Omaha Police Sergeant, James Medlock, 51 was cited and released. His handgun was confiscated.
Why say that? Wiser to just say it is his right.
wonder what the statement he’s making is? That he is a total jerk? People like this are not good for anyone.
Confiscated? Why? Was he under some sort of disability? Or, is this more government overreach?
I prefer my neighbors armed to the teeth. Los Angeles is deteriorating as well as the surrounding areas. This is no time for confiscating guns.
Since Nebraska is an open carry state, it appears the cops were acting illegally and should be pursued vigorously through the courts.
To show that he just plain can. I hope he succeeds in suing the whatsis out of the police.

Does not the idea of "Liberty" include the right to bear arms IN PUBLIC and to freely carry the means and the necessary tools to defend your life and your property?
Maybe you should change your tagline to "Give me regulations and restrictions and/or give me welfare".

I used to walk around town with a six shooter strapped to my side and loaded i also had a shotgun in my truck window but since ohio went wuss ten 15 years ago you can’t wear anything without a permit and the shotgun in the truck window now sits over my front door the sixgun hangs on the hatrack still loaded i think with the same ammo i had 15 years ago i just clean it once in a while and reload it .
Ohio went to hell in a handbasket a long time ago when it came to anything that might seem normal to most folks my age we used to have a sporting goods store called all about sports it was nothing to walk in there with a gun on even most of the retailers around knew alot of us wore guns in holsters onour hips and never batted an eye

I think my line needs explanation. In my view, the LAST thing we need right now is for the government to find some lame brain excuse to try and restrict our weapons and right to carry.
Just suppose that now, everyone in this man’s neighborhood, and in the slum neighborhoods begin to prance around like Wild Bill Hickok? with their guns strapped on? How in the world is that reflecting good sense? Crazies will soon take advantage. We just need to act SMARTER than they are... and we are, IMO

I live in a slum neighborhood, and I'd say that I have just as much right as anyone to advertise my ability to defend my life and my family...and a hell of a lot more reason than most.
In Nebraska, in order to purchase a handgun, a permit to purchase is required. Rifles and shotguns are not subject to gun laws more restrictive than those at the federal level. As of January 1, 2007, shall issue concealed handgun permits (CHPs) are being issued by the Nebraska state police. NFA firearms (machine guns, short barreled shotguns, short barreled rifles, and silencers) are legal to own as long as they are compliant with federal law.
I agree, but not this week or next week... let’s not shoot ourselves in the foot by throwing more gas on the fire! That would suit the obamanation’s plan to have us riot on the streets so he can put us under Marshall Law and have ACORN and the SEIU. Personally, I would love to carry my weapon everytime I leave the house, and have it obvious so people won’t mess with me. I’m not very large. But, now is not the time.

Do you think Patrick Henry ever went anywhere without a pistol or a musket in his hands or on his person? He, like all good patriots, carried his gun to church and everywhere else. Hell most children in those days carried their rifles and muskets to school.

I’m a bit confused. How can you agree with my comment of “if you don’t want open carry, change the laws that allow it” and then say “Personally, I would love to carry my weapon everytime I leave the house...”
For me, I would not open carry as it takes away the element of surprise. OTOH, as you said, you are not very large, so open carry may be better for you to prevent an incident in the first place.
Damn I wish these local sheriffs would man up and just tell people it’s legal!
that's all I was saying. I would love to be able to openly carry my weapon. I AM A MEMBER OF THE NRA... I'm all for it. BUT I don't want to incite anarchy in the streets. The tension right now is to fragile and all it would take is a spark. Too many people get killed like that.

Some cities do not allow open carry. Omaha is one of them.
