Party of Irrelevance

Many Republican critics of ObamaCare point to various estimates of cost to forward the argument it is going to be much more costly than its advocates are willing to admit. Followed to its logical conclusion, this argument suggests there is an “affordable” amount of ObamaCare that would be acceptable. Similar arguments were forwarded in opposition to the two stimulus packages that somehow these would be acceptable if they were trimmed down by the right “amendments”. The idea that ObamaCare and so-called stimulus spending by Congress are both unconstitutional were ignored as the debate focused on whether or not the estimates were accurate or whose estimate to believe. In other words, violating the Constitution is acceptable if the price is right. This is how the Republican Party earned the label “Democrat Lite” and has become the Party of Irrelevance.

The same elitist mentality that dominates the Democrat Party thrives in the Republican Party under the banner “fiscal conservative”. It would be more appropriate to call them tight-wad Democrats. Those Republicans still see ‘big societal problems” that demand “big government solutions” that they claim will be more affordable if they are put in charge.

The Bills cover Illegals. This means that folks can pour across our borders, airports etc. and we will pay for it (increasingly). This is worse than unaffordable, it is Unsustainable and Bankruptable.

Worse than that, HR 2300 says that Aliens (read illegals) will be exempt from the 2.5% penalty that Americans will get for having no insurance. So read "Common down and have it free on the American Tax Payer with benefits Americans won't have. DOH!

Therein lies the rub!! The Republicans (who have very short memories, BTW) WERE put in charge and they acted just like Democrats - not quite as loud or as arrogant, perhaps, but they made Republicans indistinguishable from Democrats.

To date, they STILL don't get it and STILL have done NOTHING to distinguish themselves from their colleagues on the far left. We NEED a different option than Democrats or Republicans!! One is just not as far to the left as the other but, regardless, they're BOTH still to the left!!!

Libertarianism just won't fit in that model. We have many Libertarians on this forum, and they share, maybe, half our values.

Barry Goldwater was who great on government issues, but was the least socially conservative candidate, failed miserably to unite the Republican/Independent majority that Reagan did.

His personal life in his waning years revealed what his vision for America really was. The voters didn't buy it. I do acknowledge that the Daisy add wasn't helpful to his campaign.
