A massive magnitude 7.6 quake struck in the Indian Ocean off India's Andaman Islands, triggering a tsunami watch for India, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Monday.

Oh snap!
They’re will be earthquakes in divers places.
surfs up!
Thanks for posting.
oh, great. My daughter is in India, but in Delhi, so probably somewhat safe.
SKY News: A tsunami watch has been issued across the Indian Ocean after a magnitude 7.6 earthquake, while a second tremor caused buildings to shake in Japan.
Thanks. Delhi’s about as far from the Andamans as possible and still be in India. Am assuming she hasn’t taken a side trip this week. Was in Goa last week, so maybe just staying in Delhi for a few days.
Yeah another Japan quake. Wow. I would not want to live in Ca.
Yeah another Japan quake. Wow.

COORDINATES - 14.1 NORTH 93.0 EAST
LOCATION - ANDAMAN ISLANDS INDIA REGION
MAGNITUDE - 7.7
EVALUATION
EARTHQUAKES OF THIS SIZE HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO GENERATE A
DESTRUCTIVE LOCAL TSUNAMI AND SOMETIMES A DESTRUCTIVE REGIONAL
TSUNAMI ALONG COASTS LOCATED USUALLY NO MORE THAN A THOUSAND
KILOMETERS FROM THE EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER. AREAS FURTHER FROM THE
EPICENTER COULD EXPERIENCE SMALL SEA LEVEL CHANGES AND STRONG OR
UNUSUAL COASTAL CURRENTS.
HOWEVER - IT IS NOT KNOWN THAT A TSUNAMI WAS GENERATED. THIS
WATCH IS BASED ONLY ON THE EARTHQUAKE EVALUATION. AUTHORITIES IN
THE REGION SHOULD TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THIS
POSSIBILITY. THE WATCH WILL NOT EXPAND TO OTHER AREAS OF THE
INDIAN OCEAN UNLESS ADDITIONAL DATA ARE RECEIVED TO WARRANT SUCH
AN EXPANSION.
ESTIMATED INITIAL TSUNAMI WAVE ARRIVAL TIMES AT FORECAST POINTS
WITHIN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS ARE GIVEN BELOW. ACTUAL
ARRIVAL TIMES MAY DIFFER AND THE INITIAL WAVE MAY NOT BE THE
LARGEST. A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE TIME BETWEEN
SUCCESSIVE WAVES CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO ONE HOUR.

Estimated Population Exposed to Earthquake Shaking
Est. Modified *Estimated exposure only includes population within the map area.
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are highly vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some resistant structures exist.
On September 13, 2002 (UTC), a magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred in the India region 112 km south of the location of this earthquake, with estimated population exposures of 4,000 at intensity VIII and 20,000 at intensity VII, resulting in an estimated 2 fatalities.

You're welcome, Cindy!
Thanks for the ping. I just happen to be an earthquake “junkie”.
You're welcome Rushmore Rocks!
Please add me to your ping list. Thanks.
Argh! That 136.57 KB (139843 bytes) animated graphic from armageddononline.org is slowing my already very slow computer down to a crawl. Please ask someone to remove it.
Interesting link. This shows that the 12/26/04 quake was three times as powerful as previously thought and the 2nd largest since seismographic measurements have been kept.
