Brasilia, ANSA
General Jim Jones, security advisor to president Barack Obama, said today that members of FARC are in Venezuela organizing attacks on Colombia and the government of Hugo Chavez is not doing much to combat it, according to Estado de Sao Paulo.
We know with some certainty that significant elements of Farc are active inside Venezuela and the Venezuelan government has done little to combat this declared Jones, who met yesterday in Brasilia with the Brazilian chancellor Celso Amorim.
Venezuela and other countries in the region have their differences with the United States and the installation of US bases in Colombia, he said.
But it is not acceptable that these countries (among them Venezuela) allow their border areas to be used to attack another sovereign country in the region he said.
Jim Jones refused to reconsider the initiative to base military units in Colombia and said that "the US is helping a friendly country where democracy is trying to survive against guerrilla attacks and drug trafficking.

Its no secret that FARC’s bases are in Venezuela, along with their “high value” hostages.
Its just notable that someone in the US government has acknowledged it.
Chavez is FARC, and since the death of Marulanda I would say that FARC is Chavez, and an arm of Venezuelan foreign policy at this point. In my opinion.

Jones is only there for show and has no power in the US Govt.
If he doesn’t shut up about this, he will be out. He sold out his reputation for a seat at the table..but he is definitely below the salt.

Russian nuclear bombers in Cuba? July 23, 2008
The media has been abuzz today at the prospect of Russian nuclear bombers being stationed in Cuba if the US goes ahead with plans for missile defense bases in Eastern Europe.
The story has riled the US enough that a US general has been wheeled out to tell the worlds press that any Russian attempt to build another nuclear base in Cuba would cross US red line.
The story broke earlier this week, when Russian newspaper Izvestia quoted an un-named source from within the Russian military. He told the Russian daily:
While they are deploying the missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic, our strategic bombers will already be landing in Cuba.
The quote hasnt been independently confirmed, but the Russian Defense Ministry added fuel to the fire when they refused to comment on the story.
The prospect of Russian nuclear forces being stationed in Cuba - which is, after all, only 90 miles from the US coast - would bring back some rather unpleasant memories for the US of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, where the Soviet Union under Nikita Kruschev launched an audacious and foolhardy bid to station nuclear missiles on the Caribbean island.

The government of Venezuela will purchase tanks from Russia to double its fleet and strengthen its armed forces. [Venezuelan] President Hugo Chávez made the announcement amid growing tensions with Colombia over its military agreement with the United States, which would allow troops from that country to operate from Colombian bases.
"We are going to bring several new tank battalions in order to double the armored force we presently have... I am not going to pay attention to what the neighbors say, or up north, forget the Yankees," said Chávez in "Hello, Theoretical President", the new version of his Sunday show.
The Venezuelan president explained that the new tanks are part of a "western shield plan" to protect the border with Colombia, from where he believes the United States is planning an offensive. ..."

Maybe Obama is trying to get a foreign policy issue that he can be strong on to stop his slide in the polls
Busting on Chavez will do that
