LOS ANGELES: Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is being sued for a whopping $1 trillion by author Damon Lloyd Goffe for plagiarism, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has claimed on his website.
Goffe is suing Winfrey and her production company, Harpo, for allegedly stealing material from his work, 'A Tome of Poetry' and publishing it under her name with the title 'Pieces of My Soul', according to Hilton.
In the legal documents filed in court, Goffe claims that the talk show host admitted to the thievery last year.
The New York based author has claimed that since Oprah sold over 650 million editions of the work online for $20 a copy, he is entitled to 1.2 trillion dollars.
The intellectual property case was filed on July 31 with the US District Court in Washington DC.
So, it costs her last years salary, big deal!
650m at $20 a copy means that every man woman and child in the US bought two of them. I didn’t, did you?
Oprah to aide: “Pay that guy off out of the petty cash fund”.
I guess Queen Oprah hasn’t heard about copyright violations?
“650 million editions ?”
Say what?
650 million copies? Now that sounds fishy.
Ridiculous.
“...sold over 650 million editions”
Not possible.
But I don’t mind Oprah having her tit in the wringer, anyway.
First of all, I'm certain her book has nowhere near that many copies. But even if it did, 650 million times $20 is $13 billion, not anywhere remotely close to $1.2 trillion.
An impossible call, obviously, without seeing some examples of the “plagiarism”; hopefully more details emerge. Too often the wealthy are simply targets because they have so much money (a theme no doubt familiar to anyone who spends time at FR!).
Mingee and Gary will not be happy.
The leftists have their power now. When they no longer fear the right.....they start feeding on each other. Natural way of things.
Also the beginning of the end.
Did you say “fishy”? That needs to be reported to flag@whitehouse.gov
>> every man woman and child in the US bought two of them. I didnt, did you?
No, I bought FOUR copies. I discovered that if you open them out all the way and place them side by side in front of the teevee, they’re *almost* big enough to block out her fat ass.
Treble damages?
omg! lmao!

LOL
>> .....they start feeding on each other. Natural way of things.
Absolutely agree
>> Also the beginning of the end.
I don’t know about that, it could take awhile. They could feed on Oprah, Jerry Nadler, Michael Moore, etc. for a *long* time. A LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time...
I like your tag line.
Tis the truth, ‘tis, ‘tis.
Tis the truth, ‘tis, ‘tis.
Yeah, I am thinking someone slipped a comma somewhere.
Um, wouldn’t book sales have had to top 60 BILLION copies at $20 apiece in order to total 1.2 trillion? About 9-10 copies for every human being on Earth.
Treble damages means triple damages. It doesn’t mean, you owe mean 13 billion, so pay me 1.3 trillion. If you’re going to be sued, I suppose it only helps your cause to be sued by a pro se defendant who can’t count.
I don’t think there are 650,000,000 in the world who can read.
1. There is NO WAY that Oprah has sold 650 million copies of ANYTHING.
2. Even if this were true, the total of sales would be $13 billion. So, where does the number $1.2 trillion even come from?
650 MM eh? Is that Oprah’s little red book? LOL.
Hilton needs to get on the ball. He's a little late

A quick cruise through PACER finds Oprah a party to at least 61 civil lawsuits. A good number, one can presume, are just about as substantial as the suit she won Friday, in a brief ruling by U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth.
In a brisk two pages, Judge Lamberth dismissed a copyright infringement case brought by a resident of the Bronx named Damon Lloyd Goffe. The particulars of this lawsuit are a little hard to trace, but their flavor may be established by a separate and equally unsuccessful lawsuit Mr. Goffe filed last year in New York, in which he claimed that:
"Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Inc. did delebrately and willfully infringe on my property...there are several witness with intimate knowledge of the crime."
In a similar vein, Mr. Goffe filed a suit against NBC and actor Will Smith. In that suit, filed last month in Washington, D.C., Mr. Goffe declared:
"My life is been recorded and broadcasted since 2003 via satellite/cable network Bravo/Bravo 2, whose parent company is NBC/Universal, as well as the internet under the title 'the will smith show' and previously 'real world.'"
On Monday, U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan advised Mr. Goffe that he was preparing to dismiss the Will Smith lawsuit as well.
surely it is more like 650 copies
On the bright side: Oprah won’t have any trouble getting a federal bail-out if she loses ...
I heard that he is also claiming that she lost his pants.
NO. But a quite scan of google suggests that the work described does not even exist... probably.
Perhaps this will teach Oprah a lesson about flaunting her wealthy lifestyle while lecturing us ‘peasants’ about conserving.
