Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) lashed out at Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) after the Republican congressman pushed the powerful Democratic senator to divulge details about low-interest loans he received from Countrywide Financial.
In letters provided to POLITICO, Conrad has accused Issa of attempting to impugn his name in a GOP inquiry into the Countrywide mortgage scandal. Conrad said that the Senate Ethics Committee is the appropriate forum to resolve this matter, not Issas Republican staff on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
It is unfortunate that you chose to damage my good name in your report without giving me the opportunity to provide my side of the story, Conrad said in the sharply worded Aug. 3 letter. But that damage has been done. I now have the opportunity to present my case before the Senate Ethics Committee, a fundamental right you denied me.

"In response, Frederick Hill, communications director for the GOP staff on the committee, said: Sen. Conrads whining doesnt change the seriousness of the situation or the need for a full investigation of the Countrywide VIP program.
Hill said the scope of the investigation goes far beyond the jurisdiction of the Senate Ethics Committee and is looking at Countrywides conduct in its program.

I REALLY like Issa
Countrywide Conrad getting a little touchy when things heat up. If he were a republican it would be the top story every night on Chrissy, Olberdork and Rachel(I love only women)!!!
This Politico does nothing but defend the Democrat gangsters. Are they related to the Asspress?
Kent Conrad.....is he the guy Rush always refers to as “Helmet Head?”
Anyhow, it’s always “pass the popcorn time” when these whiny democrats start to implode. I’ll take melted butter on mine.
WaPo rejects ...
“It is unfortunate that you chose to damage my good name in your report.....”
What an idiot. HE’S A DEMOCRAT! I don’t care what their name is the only good Democrat is one that isn’t in office, and nowhere near a polling booth at election time. Then it’s questionable if they are “good”, or not.
(”The only good Democrat is....” Yeah, I know, but I can’t say that here.)
Taking FLAK....Must be getting CLOSE to something!!!
Stepchild of the ComPost.
As the saying goes, “If you throw a rock into the Pig Pen and you hear a squeal, you know you hit a Pig”

Wait, wait, wait ... a member of the Senate of the United States has the "fundamental right" to keep information of possible Senate corruption from the eyes and ears of the American People?? This is news to me, Conrad.
LOL ... And they sure hit one.
Conrad-”I now have the opportunity to present my case before the Senate Ethics Committee,..(where it will get quickly buried beside the charlie Wrangle and Chris Dodd investigations).
Here's the really strange part, Politico sr. management included Fred Ryan as the President and Vice-Chairman of Politico's parent company Allbritton Communications Company. Mr. Ryan served in the Reagan administration and he's currently on the board of the Reagan library. But, he clearly gives Politico (which was started by former WaPo journos) a wide berth.
Close, but “helmut-head” is actually Senator Byron Dorgan, the other Dem senator from North Dakota. They kind of look alike, but Conrad looks geekier.
Since Conrad admits he still can present his case to the Senate Ethics Committee, it seems he is lying saying that Issa has denied him that right.
And since Issa's "report" asked Conrad to provide information, it seems Issa wasn't even denying Conrad the "right" to provide answers -- in fact, he was asking Conrad to do so, and Conrad refuses to do so.
Ah, thanks for the correction. It’s hard to keep these dims separate.....they’re all peas from the same pod.
