jOker: ‘Art is What You Can Get Away With’

In 1987, Andres Serrano submerged a small plastic crucifix in a glass jar of his own urine and called it Piss Christ. Not to be outdone, Chris Ofili daubed elephant dung on a painting of the Virgin Mary.
While some narrow-minded philistines complained, the artistic establishment heaped praise (and money) on these and works like them. The National Endowment for the Arts was so impressed with Serranos work they granted him $15,000 courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer. For his effort, Ofili was awarded the Turner Prize, Britains most prestigious art award...[snip]...
Shocking the middle classes is one thing. Shocking the art establishment is quite another. And when those sensibilities largely overlap, as they do in these early, halcyon days of the Obama administration, then woe betide anyone who dares to draw outside the lines set by the media-education-government complex.

How many presidents have been portrayed as comic book characters? This is just a standard form of political commentary — but the Left sure gets their panties in a bunch.

Interesting piece, interesting points. And of course he didn’t miss this opportunity to dump on Bush in passing.

Post the Obama-as-Joker everywhere. It’s a great piece of guerilla warfare. It not only states Obama’s goal, but it also describes the disingenuous manner in which it is being implemented.
I still don’t know how to post photos - could someone please post a large version so we can print it out and put it on the local wall or telephone pole?
The left understands that this single poster is fabulous cutting satire. They don’t like it. Good. Put it up everywhere, in the middle of the night, in every town and every city. Consider it to be the 21st-century equivalent of the “Live Free or Die” poster.
Remember the lessons of Alinsky: Ridicule is impossible to defend against. Another lesson: Use the opponent’s tactics against them.
Post it everywhere.

"How many presidents have been portrayed as comic book characters?" Presidents are fair game for cartoonists. Prophets, apparently, are not...

Interesting piece, interesting points. And of course he didnt miss this opportunity to dump on Bush in passing. Where? The point of the article is the Left relished in 'anti-Bush' art and now the chickens have come home to roost - they can dish it out, but not the other way around.

They linked an image done of Bush and quoted all the positive replys from the left about it being "artistic" and "right on". The left can't' argue that the Obama joker is any worse than what the left has done.
They are upset because the picture is powerful, and they know it. There aren't that many political cartoons/images that come along and "click", but the Obama joker does. Why I'm not sure, but when I first saw it I had a certain gut reaction.

How long before Time is totally out of business? They have what, three advertisers left? There’s nothing but the covers and a few pages of copy left as it is. Same for “Newsweak.”
To: ClearCase_guy
Their panites are in a bunch because in the poster, Obama LOOKS WHITE.
The men who played the joker have always been white.
Liberals see the poster and are frightened that Obama is WHITE.
They are afraid on a subliminal level that Obama might be a white man like George Bush - MAYBE A CONSERVATIVE WHITE MAN ( CAN YOU HEAR THE LIBERAL SCREAMING?)))

While I appreciate your changing the handle to jOker. I think a more accurate method would be to simply drop the “R”.

Love it! But now I must “flag” you, you mean dispicable man! I am awaiting my glory in the obama administration.
