Burt Folsom is a great thinker and historian. FReepers should read his books, particularly Myth of the Robber Barons. It will arm you up against the Leftist's lies and propaganda we're suffering under today.

You are right on. The Myth of the Robber Barons is excellent. Burt Folsom is one of my heroes. John Stossel is another.

There is at least one microeconomics class outside of Hillsdale and Grove City where Folsom’s ideas and Stossel’s examples are taught.

It should be taught broadly. Proof that economics is failing the more mathematical it gets.

This thread should be loaded with “BTTT”, but economic ignorance runs rampant on FR as well. Too few voices of sanity and plenty of crocks.

Again, you are right on target, unfortunately.

I see too many posts that show a thorough misunderstanding of both Austrian and Keynesian economics that it discourages me. As you say, this forum should ring with good sense. Instead, Freepers seem to be rather confused about economic matters.

Thanks for your posts/replies. Please keep up the good work.

WWHD. What Would History Do? Before Americans undertake significant changes in public policy, we look to the historical record? How have similar changes fared in the past?

Here are some examples of how that might work. The U. S. has secured a 60 percent holding in GM. What happened in the past when the U. S. significantly contributed financially to a major industrial enterprise? How, for example, did the U. S. do when it heavily funded the Union Pacific and Central Pacific Transcontinental Railroads? Answer:

They went bankrupt (The Union Pacific, in fact, went bankrupt several times). How did the Great Northern, the one transcontinental railroad to take no federal subsidies, fare?

Answer: It was the only transcontinental not to go bankrupt.

Interesting......... For some of us, it is so obvious from experience or history it is hard to comment. For others, thinking caps may be in short supply.

It is also hard to comment on a video. Maybe that is good because then you don't get “drive by postings”.

For me, this video is a must see especially for the many socially conservative, fiscally/economically ignorant FReepers.

Burt Folsom should be a household name to FReepers. He, along with Amity Shlaes, give us the facts we need to refute the worship of FDR and his New Deal. Leftists still work hard to burnish the New Deal and kids are being taught that voters rejected the Great Society programs of Johnson, but love the New Deal programs. This is a lie.

We'd never had been burdened with the GS without the ND in place first. Had Hoover really been a Silent Cal and not "reacted" the GD and FDR would never have happened. Textbooks paint Hoover as a do nothing, yet he was as active as Obama is today. FDR just took it to the next level.
