Wow. The epicenter was 330 miles southeast of Tijuana, and things were rolling for a good period of time 13 floors up in San Diego. I’ll bet it was real interesting in La Paz and Cabo.

Question: Is the ‘Gulf of California’ the same thing as the ‘Sea of Cortez’ or are they separate entities?

Question: Is the Gulf of California the same thing as the Sea of Cortez or are they separate entities? Saw this in WikiPedia:
The Gulf of California (also known as the Sea of Cortez or Sea of Cortés; locally known in the Spanish language as Mar de Cortés or Mar Bermejo or Golfo de California) is a body of water that separates the Baja California Peninsula from the Mexican mainland. It is bordered by the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, and Sinaloa. Rivers which flow into the Gulf of California include the Colorado, Fuerte, Mayo, Sinaloa, Sonora, and the Yaqui. The gulf's surface area is about 62,000 square miles (160,000 km²). The name "Gulf of California" predominates on most maps in English today. The name "Sea of Cortés" is the one preferred by most local residents.

Maybe California is going to fall into the ocean, like they told us in school some 35 years ago. Back when we were looking at the next ice age.

Most of California won’t.
But some will.
The Baja peninsula is gonna just keep getting longer, someday San Diego will sit on an island!

I’ve been looking for that too. The US has helpfully informed everyone that no tsunami is expected along the US West Coast.
It was quite shallow, and that seems powerful enough to do quite a bit if the thrust was correct to cause a wave.

Yes, although the lack of a Pacific-wide tsunami doesn’t preclude devastating local effects.
