Dozens Arrested, Drugs Found At 'Funk Fest' Church Raid (Western PA)
The Pittsburgh Channel via MSNBC.com ^ | August 3, 2009

Posted on 08/03/2009 10:32:53 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

Hundreds of people attending a music event at a Fayette County church watched on Saturday as teams of police officials raided the compound and arrested dozens of people on drug charges.

District Attorney Nancy Vernon called it a very dangerous situation as drug task force members joined state and local police officers in the raid Saturday at the Church of Universal Love and Music in Bullskin Township, where 300 to 600 people attended the three-day "Funk Fest."

"All of a sudden the police and everybody came barging in," concertgoer Kelly Azelin said. "I was scared cause they had all these people in handcuffs."

Vernon said it took three trailers to haul out pounds of mushrooms, LSD and OxyContin from the 147-acre property. She said authorities found a significant amount of drug paraphernalia, brownies laced with marijuana and other treats containing marijuana.

"We found a lot of marijuana -- that had been discarded -- of high quality, balloons and nitric oxide gas, particularly, hallucinatory drugs," Vernon said.

Church members and concert attendees told Channel 4 Action News many families simply came for a good time.

"I'm not saying everybody is an angel. I'm not saying everybody is as innocent as the driven snow," Daniel Miller said. "But, there was a lot of us who paid good money to camp and relax."

what the heck did they expect from a “ahem”

“Church of Universal Love and Music”. What a lot of crock... and tax exempt!!!!

Was this a white “church”? I now suspect racism in every area since the obamanation has endorsed it through his actions and words.

Sounds like the drug bazaar that follows Wide Spread Panic around the country.

There was a guy just walking around yelling “Mitsubishi rolls” {ecstasy) as if he was selling hot dogs. Marijuana, LSD, mushroom, pharmaceuticals, cocaine, and even whip its were freely sold to anyone who wanted in the parking lot outside of the arena @ UNO in New Orleans, and not a cop in sight.

Used to work at a nightclub where George Clinton visited regularly. Besides being the most odiferous man I’ve ever met, he used drugs like they were food. The club’s manager used to tell us to just be cool, but if the cops ever saw what he had on his person, their jaws would be on the ground.

That being said... a church funk fest? Really? Pot, nitrous... these were kids, not adults. The nitrous in the balloon this is a recent fad (last 15 years or so), at least in the mainstream.

End the failed war on drugs.
End the failed war on burglary.
End the failed war on drunk driving.
End the failed war on communism.
End the failed war on Islamic Fundamentalism.
End the failed war on illegal immigration.

Every single one of those is equally valid.

Sorry mysterio.

Your personal fantasies do not serve to counter reality.

You didn't offer a method to prove why one is true and not another because you have nothing that does so. They really are equivalent.

Now, you can CONTINUE your tactic of attempting the intellectual version of trying to hold your breath until the world changes to suit you - but it isn't working now and it never will. Actually, it just makes you sound like an elderly stoned hippy screaming incoherently at a town meeting in Berkeley.

Every single one of those is equally valid.

Wrong. Every one of those (with the exception of drunk driving if there is no related accident) involve one party damaging another through the use of force or fraud.

Burglary: property is stolen or damaged
Communism: millions of innocent human beings murdered by government
Islamic Fundamentalism: ditto
Illegal immigration: American sovereignty violated; increase in criminal behavior; jobs lost

Granted, the drug trade is the source of much criminal violence. Ending the war on drugs, however, would put much of the drug trade out of business.

So, to reiterate and amplify the earlier post: End the failed war on drugs.

May I offer an argument:
Everyone one of those involves someone initiating force against someone else:
Burglary and Communism involve attacks against private property; Communism, like Islamicism also involves attacks against Life and Liberty.
Drunk driving is reckless disregard of the safety of others.
Illegal immigration is trespassing and leads to other crimes such as ID theft and fraud.

Drug use does not involve initiating force against others. It IS abuse of your person (and, from what I have seen, your family). It isn't much different from drunkenness, which is apparently acceptable under most circumstances.
It could be argued that it is the very illegality of drugs that creates the culture of violence that has grown up around them, just like the bootleggers during Prohibition. There was a period when narcotics were legal and there doesn't seem to have been much violence associated with them.

Just a point of view on the issue. I'm not a Libertarian and I don't believe legalizing drugs is the answer. Virtually ever country that has had dealing with narcotics has eventually had to outlaw them, often with truly draconian laws (like death for possession...). But I do understand the Libertarian point of view.

BS. Smoking a marijuana cigarette is the equivalent of burglary? That's a stretch even by drug warrior logic.

What's having a beer the equivalent of? Murder?

Without going into too much detail: some of my family has a foster child whose biological mom is part of this compound. They were raided for drugs, primarily white trash types living up on a hilltop doing every drug under the sun and there are a lot of kids there apparently.

The “church” is a tax avoidance scheme rather than a cult.

Every single one of those is equally valid.

In every other example you cite, individuals' rights are being violated. The WOsD is a case where no one's rights are being violated.

Burglary - the victim's right to property
Drunk driving - reckless endangerment on another's right to life
Communism - agressor nations viotlate rights to life, liberty, property
Islamic Fundamentalism - see Communism
Illegal Immigration - violates rights to property when taxes support illegals and their ninos.

The WOsD is similar to Obamacare. It's the goobermint asserting its "right" to your body. It's wrong.
