McCain Upset by "Vicious Attacks" on Palin: AZ Sen. said Palin will be a "force" in the GOP

Sen. John McCain said he is saddened Sarah Palin has been the subject of "vicious attacks" but said his former GOP running mate has a promising future in the Republican Party.

In an interview with CNN's "State of the Union," McCain said he believes Palin made the right decision by stepping down from her post as Alaska's governor 18 months before her first term was up and said he was upset that the ex-veep candidate continues to be the victim of searing criticism.

"I respect Sarah Palin," McCain said in an interview that aired Sunday. "I appreciate her and her husband enormously. I think she will continue to play a major role in the future of the Republican Party. And I have to respect the decision she made."

McCain said Palin's stunning resignation last month was "clearly" the "best decision" for her family -- and she will have a significant presence and future in the Party.

The former presidential candidate said he was "saddened by the fact that there are still such vicious attacks on her and her family."

"I've never seen anything quite like it," he said.

Palin plans to pen a book but her long-term political goals are unclear and there is much speculation she could throw her hat in the ring for a potential 2012 presidential bid.

McCain said he would welcome Palin to campaign with him in Arizona when he runs for re-election in 2010.

I thinks we found the reason why McCain is so “pro” Sarah nowadays isn’t it. He wants her to campaign for him. Anyone seen the poll numbers in the Arizona senate race, I haven’t been following it. Is McCain in trouble there, if he is, well, this would explain his sudden love for Sarah. Hey McCain, where were you during the campaign when your OWN people were trashing her, where were you AFTER the campaign when your own people were saying it was her fault that you lost the election. Too little too late McCain, especially after hearing that story about Cindy calling Sarah and her family “hicks” during the campaign.

McCain's key point here...he's in trouble and needs her help.

I wish he’d just keep his yap shut about her now....all he can do is damage her, even if that is not what he wishes.....(and he might wish to do just that IMO)

Yes, he is. And I don't recall him being particularly grieved when she was under a daily, relentless attack. If McCain isn't an opportunist, he could easily masquerade as one. Quite frankly, war hero or not, I have no use for the man.

McCain't needs to retire and take up basket weaving...he's worn out his welcome from both sides.

I will be very disappointed if Sarah helps him out in his campaign, after all, he and his staff have played a big role in throwing her under the bus...even so far as to blame Sarah for the loss of the election. We all know better.

I'm done with even listenin to McCain't...he's a RINO and always will be...and that daughter of his is right up there with him.

It’s revealing that McQueeg - who has no voice whatsoever among conservatives - is completely reliant on the Mainstream Media to voice his ridiculous proposals and “relevance” to Republicans.

Oh goody! Another McCain post. Haven’t we stopped paying attention to him? Didn’t we learn all we needed to know about him when he threw his campaign under the bus?

Yes. We. Did.

If I might say, Sen. McCain: Who cares what you think? She’s the only reason you got the number of votes you got.

"McCain Upset by 'Vicious Attacks' on Palin..."

What a steming pile of poo. McCain denegrated her and left her twisting in the wind and now that he sees HIS political career is threatened he is all "oh my, how terrible about that poor little ol Palin."

What a sorry piece of work he is and to think so many of ys spent so much time and effort trying to get him elected.

He needs her help. Anyone have a recent poll for the Senate race in Arizona. If he is trailing, there is your answer as to why he is so “Supportive” of her now

McCain’s disturbed at the way Palin’s being treated?? Now?? After he and his campaign staff badmouthed her? McCain’s got something up his sleeve besides a hairy arm. I don’t know what it is, but he’s up to something.

If McCain asks Palin for help, it would be difficult for her to refuse. He selected her for VP, and it would not be good for her to diss him publicly.

Also, I may have missed it, but I've never heard McCain be negative towards Palin. I've heard a lot of garbage from his staff. This is my theory, not knowing any of them, but I've never thought McCain was particularly smart. A lot of his campaign problems weren't his positions, it was the stupidity. I read numerous reports of there never being a campaign network set up in critical battleground states, of lame fundraising efforts, and a lot of marks of an amateurish campaign, particularly for a guy that had been through a national campaign before.

I don't think McCain was in control of his campaign or his staff, and he had a lot of beltway insiders who went rogue on him. I think these guys sabotaged Palin, and used her poorly. Palin should have been on Hannity, Limbaugh and Levin. She should have been speaking to Concerned Women for America, the NRA, the Young Republicans, and other conservative groups.

I’ve never heard McCain disparage Palin either. That was all bullshit.
