PALM BAY, Fla. -- Police shot a dog Thursday while responding to a domestic disturbance in Palm Bay. Officers, with guns drawn, approached a house on Geary Street. That's when a pit bull charged at officers.

Officers say they were forced to open fire.

"I myself fired a bean bag, less lethal round, hitting the pit bull in the head. The other officer fired a 9-mm, hitting the pit bull in the right rear leg," explained Sgt. Don Smith, Palm Bay Police Department.

The dog survived the shots. Police took the dog, along with two others, into custody.

Police also arrested a man at the home for violating a protection order.

Hmmm. So the cops shot a pit bull with a bean bag and a 9mm. And one was just as lethal as the other.

I don’t see where the dog was killed.

It wasn’t. Hence the 9mm was just as lethal as the bean bag ;-)

9mm in the leg isn’t like 9mm in the heart.

Yes they are. Especially when they bite through steel belted radial tires. Ah never mind. You wouldn't know anything about that.

So you’re scared of dogs too? Or are you just another cop groupie? You have no idea what I know, so don’t make stupid assumptions.

Having worked for a vet a few years, I can honestly say that a very healthy regard of the dangers presented by Pits would benefit most everyone. One would be a fool not to respect them IMHO.

This is what comes of being a pit bull in America.

A healthy respect for a potentially dangerous dog isn’t the same as cops shooting every dog they see when they go to somebody’s house.

Hey it late here, perhaps you can point out to me where the article says they shoot every dog they go to. I know you must be a big dog lover, but lets not make up crap just to make a point.

Do a little reading. I never said it was in the article, but it’s common practice. Remember the one where the cops went to the wrong house, shot two black labs, and cuffed an old lady? Happens all the time.

I love when I’m in someone’s house and they give me the ‘ol “Oh, he/she won’t bite you, he/she’s a sweetheart.” As if their saying that brings anyone any comfort at all.

If you have a dog don’t let it get close to guests, people. Don’t assume they’re diggin’ the fact that your dog is showing them attention. It’s so rude.

If your guest is fearful of strange dogs, as many people are, they will probably not want to ‘rock the boat’ by telling you to remove your dog from their space. But they will likely not want to return to your home again.

If they call it over then fine.

This happened to me the other day at a customer’s home. I f***king hate dogs jumping on me or sniffing around me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs. But I get pissed when people allow their canine collection invade my space or climb me like a tree as soon as I walk in the door.

One of only a few PET peeves I have.
