The following video from a Santa Cruz, California city council meeting shows why some people really should avoid talking about economics. If you need a laugh this Friday morning, listening to the sage advice on display ought to do the trick:

I’m seriously confused. She sounds like she’s pro mining and liked Bush but she mixes it with that bizarre crap about silkworms and slavery.

This is why I sympothize with township councils that get police to escort the crazies that come to the microphone out of the building.
I know FReepers get into a tizzy at times when they hear stories about people thrown out of public meetings but of the ones I’ve attended, there are a lot of people like this woman who get up to speak.

I tend to agree. However, to be fair I know a lot of extremely intelligent people who freeze up, stumble over words or make idiotic comments when speaking in public. I don’t know where this lady would fit on the intelligence scale but she is obviously not a gifted speaker. It was good for a laugh this AM - thanks.-—JM

Sometimes I wonder why we have mandatory warning labels on chainsaws (”do not attempt to stop moving blades with face, hands, or genitals”). Thanks for the reminder.
An optimist would hope she is either a troll IRL or someone looking for free publicity (perhaps to bolster her client’s upcoming venture).
Me, I think this is nothing but typical ignorance made atypical only by public venue. I dread talking to people about politics and economics because this is the sort of stuff that usually dribbles out (albeit generally with a better delivery, but just as vapid in content). Especially when it comes to “free things” (from the government especially). The mind resets to early childhood - with the innocently assumed benevolence of caretakers, and the lack of comprehension of where scarce resources (in the economic sense) come from. It brings to mind that video of the hippy guy from way back, with the “I want the president to take care of me” view of government as parents (or God), with essentially a demand to return to the womb. Different mindset, same degree of mental immaturity.

what, you mean people who came up with the concept of the Free Store should not be put in charge of the national treasury?
To: Lonesome in Massachussets
"Her parents must be so proud, they raised the perfect dingbat." There is a perverse pride in molding a young mind into uselessness. I am reminded of the empty vessel named Rachel Corrie who was indoctrinated in the loonie bin called Evergreen College and eventually got herself killed by trying to stop a bull dozer from flattening a building where terrorist arms were stashed.
These are Obama voters.

This is mostly an indictment of our educational system.
There was a time when a woman like this would have learned that she was far too stupid to offer advice to anybody about anything. However, she was probably raised to believe that "everyone is entitled to their own opinion", and the stupid person's corollary "everything is a matter of opinion".

Rachel Corrie managed a certain vitriol and venom that this pathetic spectacle cannot muster. The striking thing about this woman is her utter vacuity. It is truly painful to watch her make such a fool of herself.

I’ve lived in this most beautiful town off and on for over 40 years. I have to say she is one of the more brainer ones in town. The oatmeal for brains students march in lockstep with the goateed, marxist humanists at the University because it’s cool and they just don’t know. I had a conversation with a neo-lib neighbor last week and asked him how that hopenchange is working for him. He started screaming “I don’t want to hear it” repeated about 5 times as I watched in amazement. If one is a conservative, one doesn’t advertise as you are shunned and treated as less than human. I have fun tweaking my muscian friends with facts sometimes and it drives them nuts. You really should have been here in the 70’s though, WILD in every and all sense of the word. The guy’s post above about screaming against the “Man”, then going to collect welfare was spot on. Still, one of the most beautiful places in the world. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.
