Mark Tapscott: Obamacare could kill AARP
Washington Examiner ^ | 7/29/09 | Mark Tapscott

Posted on 07/29/2009 3:09:53 PM PDT by Nachum

Marketing operations don't get any slicker than the one behind AARP. Their invitation to join arrived in my mail box even before I turned 50. I joined for one year, but never renewed because I knew the truth about this famous group.

That truth is this: Millions join AARP and in return receive a host of useful services and resources. But their money and influence are hijacked to support causes that are absolutely inimical to their best interests.

The hijacking is the work of AARP's Washington staff, which is an integral part of the tireless liberal lobbying machine that runs 24/7 in the nation's capital pushing to protect and expand current government entitlements and to create costly new ones.

“But their money and influence are hijacked to support causes that are absolutely inimical to their best interests.”

I agree. I joined so I could get the cheap insurance. Now that I got it I don’t pay dues any more. They don’t represent senior citizens. They use them.

“There will be hell to pay for AARP with its members when this ugly reality becomes crystal clear, as it most certainly will”.

...great article that gets to the meat of the matter. I’m 51 and wouldn’t be an AARP member if they paid me! But the above statement will never come to pass. There are far too many dumbasses in this country to make ANYTHING truthful become “crystal clear”.

Same here. Didn’t like their Cover photos. Why movie stars?? Why not the average senior citizen? Boo AARP.

Recall about three years ago they were running TV commercials starring little kids essentially saying “Sell us into servitude to pay for goodies for old farts”.

Yup AARP is a RAT-infested liberal love-in. But just watch, these hypocrites are chomping at the bit to make big moolah off of health care deform.

So true! Killing the aging baby-boomers quickly and cheaply is the only way to give free health care to the parasites supporting monkey-boy.

Im very bothered by this. Im an AARP member and they were very helpful sorting out my husbands pension benefits and medicare part d and such. I didnt know they were so liberal. Perhaps I should have paid more attention to all the junk mail they send me.

That truth is this: Millions join AARP and in return receive a host of useful services and resources. But their money and influence are hijacked to support causes that are absolutely inimical to their best interests.

And a further truth is that the AARP is really nothing more than a VAULABLE sucker list of people who are perceived to be trusting and gullible.

READ their health and life insurance offers and compare them!

Their health plan is US Healthcare! Search "US Healthcare +(ANY obscenity) and just watch what comes up.

Join AARP for a year and watch what happens to your mailbox. Every looter and scammer wants a piece of you, a pre-qualifed old fool who will fall for every scam. THAT is why the membership rates are so cheap. What, $12?

Good riddance! Since it's inception it has been a worthless organization.

“I joined so I could get the cheap insurance.”

“Me too....but don’t you have to be an AARP member to keep your coverage?”

My brother called the Hartford up and they said that as long as you keep the insurance active you do not need to be a member. If you discontinue the insurance and then want it again then you must join AARP again. I haven’t been a member for over a year and I keep putting their notices in the garbage can.

I’ve always been under the impression that their insurance was actually more expensive than others.

There's good reason to believe that most 50 year olds today will live to be 90 or 100 - life expectancy has been rising steadily. People at the halfway point in their lives are not retirement material - they're in the prime of their lives. If I just turned 50 and found an AARP invitation waiting for me, I'd be insulted.

Thank all you AARP members for destroying our Constitutional government.

Thank God I had a Dad that alerted me to these dangerous clowns who invest MILLIONS of your dollars for Socialist programs and schmoozing congressthugs to help enslave you.

I stopped their mailouts by drawing a black border with Marks-a-lot around their “contribution/membership” request and a skull and crossbones in the center telling them not to mail me anything again—SOCIALIST! They haven’t and that’s been 17 years.

I won’t betray my country by spending a cent with them.

That is very useful information...thanks.

Just called AARP and the customer service rep confirmed that you do not have to be an active member to keep the health insurance. Told her how disgusted I was that they are backing this socialized medicine plan.

Spread the word. I’ll bet there are many like us who want the insurance but do not want to support AARP. I haven’t taken their 55 Alive class which is free to AARP members but I’ll sacrifice and pay the $14 dollars for the course when I get the chance.

President Obama addressed AARP members’ questions about health care reform at a tele-town hall, Tuesday, July 28, 2009.

“Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. He has already been appointed to two key positions: health-policy adviser at the Office of Management and Budget and a member of Federal Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research.
snip

Savings, he writes, will require changing how doctors think about their patients: Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath too seriously, “as an imperative to do everything for the patient regardless of the cost or effects on others” (Journal of the American Medical Association, June 18, 2008).
snip

He says medical care should be reserved for the non-disabled,

snips www.defendyourhealthcare.us

So if according to Emanuel, the NONdisabled should not get medical care, what is to happen to adults and children with cerebral palsy, people with dementia, or Americans who have Parkinson’s?

And AARP supports THIS?
