WASHINGTON Sen. George Voinovich's comments about the U.S. Senate's southern caucus reverberated in Washington today. But publicly, one of the southerners Voinovich criticized declined to lash back this afternoon.
And Voinovich's own campaign finance records show he has had no problem whistling Dixie.
The story begins with a conversation the Ohio Republican had with editors from the Columbus Dispatch. When asked about the GOP's biggest problem, Voinovich told the Columbus newspaper: "We got too many Jim DeMints (R-S.C.) and Tom Coburns (R-Ok.). It's the southerners. They get on TV and go 'errrr, errrrr.' People hear them and say, 'These people, they're southerners. The party's being taken over by southerners. What they hell they got to do with Ohio?' "
one can just consider the source. the guy still has the Civil War mentality..
I’m so glad I left Ohio before this twurp became governor and senator.
Go back to sleep, George.
Another damn Yankee who has more money than brains - and he’s penniless.
Unfortunately, Ohio is the home of the inner-cities of Columbus, Toledo, Dayton, Cleveland, and Cincinatti, and between those and the blue-collar union folks, a Republican has a snowball's chance in hell of winning anything.
I expect the next Governor to be Jennifer Brunner, the Sec. of State that counted all the ACORN early ballots as legitimate, along with the votes of the dead, cartoon characters, etc.
What an arse-wipe.
That's like comparing Ohio and Maine. Both are Northern states (although Cincinnati may balk at that), but they couldn't be more different.
Thankfully Senator V. has decided to retire at the end of his term. On behalf of Ohioans, I apologize to the nation for his chronic Rinoism.
From one proud Southerner, screw you, GEORGE
Cry baby Voinvich:
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/01/11/i-cant-say-ill-miss-george-voinovich/
Maybe Voino-vichy should offer to have a beer with the people he insulted.
We could get his beer from the nearest horse.
Expell the RINO!
Sounds like george has fallen off the wagon. Again.
As an Ohioan, I apologize for this POS. He’s a scumbag.
Voinovich, this former Ohioan living in the south wishes YOU would go away. Now be quiet, RINO.
hahahahahahahaha
hahahahahah
Make it a Bud Light and George, I don't love you, man!
Ditto from a proud Texan...
Voinovich is an ass. (As always!)
“This Michigander thinks the problem with the Senate GOP is too many Voinoviches.”
Yup, get some real conservatives out of Ohio (Kasich?) and the problem will correct itself.
Since he’s not running for re-election,don’t be suprised if this POS votes for cap-n-tax and the kill grandma bill as a parting shot.Snowe,Voinovich and 58 dems-theres your “bi-partisan” cabal.
Damn right. Vichy owes Jim DeMint, Tom Coburn and John Bolton an apology. What a wimp, especially compared to these men of actual courage. Senility has set in and you’d have thunk he would go out quietly with some sense of collegiality for his colleagues rather than being such an embarrassing drama queen.
The way northern states are going with taxes up and jobs down, we’re all going to be southerners in a few years.
I’m glad he’s retiring.
I have no problem with the current configuration of the GOP
I have no problem with the current configuration of the GOP
Yup. The problem is that when libs flee the sh!tholes they’ve turned their states into, they bring their liberal views and votes with them and proceed to ruin their new homes, too...
She would never break down and blubber like a baby? She knows which party she belongs in?
Besides all the obvious comments already made which I also agree with...the statement itself shows the pure stupidity and ignorance this man has on how our system of government actually works!
On a personal note, Georgie, what the h#$!! do you have to do with the GOP?...or with conservatives?...even less to do with the south...and totally NOTHING to do with reality.
How far south is Alaska?
The south is our strongest region so no duh a lot our prominent leaders will be from there. Especially when other parts of the country have ‘Republicans’ like Crockoitch.
He’s right though that a lot of people in the rest of the country look down on the south just like he does.
Although my fellow Southerners consider me “too Yankee” to be Southern, and Northerners think I’m “too Southern”, I’ve really been disgusted with a strain of anti-Southern elitism I’ve seen within the GOP going back to the Civil War (and probably before that). Any other group of people being called by certain slurs would see the hurler of it roundly criticized as a bigot. Frankly, comments like Voinovich’s make me and other Southerners feel like we’re being called nothing but a bunch of ni**ers.
I always thought it was to many “crybabies” that can’t vote for Bolton for the UN post. He can’t even read the 2nd amendment. He’s a piece of crap and would get “Dewined” if he was running again.
Is this guy retarded?
This kind of bigotry towards the South is nothing new, and most of us are used to it. He just dropped the mask of civility and let his true feelings about us ignorant redneck crackers come out.
I remember it well. That was a classic!
Ah, the Cleveland boy from the Connecticut Western Reserve forgets the Clement L. Vallandigham Copperhead governorship—along with all the SE Ohio small farmers that lost out on canal transportation. The National Road, US 40 (complete with its now famous yearly yard sale), runs straight through the middle of the state: roughly the dividing line for the Northerners and Southerners—with the exception of the Toledo area former swampland that Michigan and Ohio near raged pitched battles over. NASA Glenn, Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, river boats and Amish in one state.
De Whiners were the real winners of the the moron award. Father and son prove that non sensibilities do follow gene lines. Taft family has proved that over and over ... except the latest one was probably the greatest loser as a walking, talking, mass of protoplasm.
Jean Scmidt makes a moron look like an intellectual. she actually made a courageous stand for about 30 seconds and then realized she didn't understand what she had said.
Voinobich will cry a river with the “hard” decisions. Either lead, follow or get out of the way. He couldn't lead a 3 year old to the crapper. Boehner is just another pretty boy with a nice talk, but no balls or spine. A self admitted career politician ... he has only one interest .. his own. Yeah .. I live in his neighborhood. An empty suit with a lot of hot air.
I was chastised at a county republican event for non support. I have listened to people on this board try to lay a guilt trip on me. don't care ... you opinions and water off my back. I am no longer a registered republican in this state ... and .. I will only support CONSERVATIVE individuals that emerge (if they are not denuttted first) from the Ohio republicans.
A state of RINO’s. Spineless losers, and a group of republicans that don't have enough combined intellect to jumpstart a moron.
I do not paint with a broad brush ... there are a few (very few) in the party that hold a conservative view. More than likely they don't stand a chance of a snow ball in the warm place with this current party mindset.
Kascih has had my interest long before we moved here. Blackwell is a fine man, the Bushies didn't want anything to do with him. (figures) I leaned toward portman, Steve Chabot is in my eyes one of the few conservatives conservative and as such will not have a chance in within Ohrio republicans. So that is where I am .....
You have nailed it on the head .... I see a great paradox .. the great ohioans that work daily are very Conservative in view point. Those that live off of those that are productive in the CITIES mentioned cancel out that majority view.
“and let his true feelings about us ignorant redneck crackers come out”. How true. Hey Voinovich, if we are such idiots, why are so many Ohioans heading here and leaving the state you represent?
Sadly, that's pretty much the state of the Nation; where cities have the numbers (and LARGE numbers due to ACORN, which is also funded by the 'Rats, using the working peoples' earnings to the tune of Billions of dollars now).
Kasich is okay, but I can't see even Blackwell being a winner in THIS State; he's been shredded by the BDS'ers and the smear machine (cost Ohio to AlGore, somehow, when he denied the ACORN-machine their phoney absentee and provisional cheating).
This shmuck makes me ashamed to be from Ohio. I ♥ the South!
...And frankly, I look forward to living there someday anyway. A lot more patriots and a lot fewer Commies!
Then, you sir, are no friend of conservatism.
At least Whine-ovich wasn’t your mayor, then your governor, *then* your senator.
Nope, but Pharoah Phil Bredesen has been two of those, and hopefully he’ll never be the third one.
The last time I checked the Southern wing of the party was in power.
