And so it begins - this is also a major tenet in the national health insurance bill = the slide into "Solent Green"... Condition society to a mind-set that the elderly are a drag on society and should go quietly into the night... of course, the makers of these rules/bills are exempt - they will retain their best of the best health coverage, paid for by you and me.

I don’t want it. They’ll put it in little kids so their immune systems can suffer, just like with other shots. Who really knows what’s in them? If they can make more retarded children or sick children, there will be less of them to rise up against them later on. Yes, I DO believe that.

To tell you the truth, I don't want my grandchildren anywhere near a goddam government developed/promoted vaccine.

When I came back in 76 after 8 years overseas, the 'swine' flu was also a big thing....like a dumbass I went down and got a shot...if screwed me up for years, never felt right....

I don't trust the government, CDC or local health officials anymore and I damn sure ain't gonna gamble with my grandchildren....

The pandemic of 1918 killed the young and healthy in greater numbers than older persons. The reason was that the immune response of the young was stronger and flooded the lungs with fluid. This might be part of the reason, but I’m not suggesting we take it at face value.

They’re not talking about a vaccine. It’s about anti-virals, like Tamiflu. The thought is the same, though.

I don’t want it.

Actually, I agree with you on this. I NEVER get the shots - after my first one decades ago, following which I got sick for 2 weeks.

And for decades, before retirement, I watched the younger folk, sheep-like, get the 'free' shots at work, chastise me for not getting them and then wondering why THEY got sick and I didn't.

I use natural preventive measures and haven't had any flu for decades...

What is disturbing, VERY, is the mindset of 'rationing' medicine...

Make sure your vitamin D levels are high enough to boost your immune system. This is one theory as to why the flu strikes in fall/winter not summer. I take 2000 i.u.s a day to maintain normal blood levels.

Also, Tamiflu’s key ingredient is the Chinese herb, Star Anise. It is skyrocketing in price due to heavy demand. It may be prudent to have some on hand just in case.

Don’t jump to conclusions. Flus like this cause a cytokine storm which is more deadly in younger people, those with healthy immune systems, which as the article link below states can be a liability, not an asset.

I've always gone the direction of preventative measures as well ... according to this doctor (where I've gotten some excellent magnesium powder in the past), lavender oil is the secret to fighting off severe illness ... I think I'm going to order some ... (he also suggests oil of oregano) ...

I wash my hands a lot during flu season and try not to kiss all my friends at church, LOL. This rationing medicine is very scary to me, too. I’m 70 and considered too old by some.

I take magnesium every day - in a magnesium-calcium mix.

You may want to research some possible negative side effects with oregano oil. (GOOGLE “oregano oil side effects”) .

I do use oregano - I grow myself - along with rosemary, thyme, sage, turmeric and even myrrh regularly in cooking, particularly in stir-fries and soups.

Yes. Along with my supplements and herbs, I carry a bottle of hand disinfectant with me everywhere...and I stay out of theaters and other overcrowded places when a 'bug' is going around.

I'm glad to see that some stores are starting to provide hand disinfectants at their entrances - particularly any store that we use shopping carts in.

And I got ya beat - I'm 74. The obamanites probably think I should be 'patriotic' and go off into the sunset.

If you look at who has died from H1N1, it has been young adults with healthy immune systems.

The kids and old people who got it, did relatively well.

This virus apparently kills when the immune system goes into overdrive.

If your immune system is weak, it makes you sick but does not kill.

The World Health Organization has issued a dire warning to health care officials, warning of the very real possibility that Swine Flu could mutate with the HIV virus into an air-borne version of AIDS.

Anne Schuchat, a scientist with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has seperately confirmed to Bloomberg News that Swine flu’s potential to reconfigure its genetic material and become more deadly is a “major concern” to those monitoring the virus outbreak.

Once infected with Swine Flu, the H1N1 virus “re-associates” with the genetics of other viruses in the same person. In the case of HIV, one possibility is the H1N1 virus could take-on the immune system killing effects of HIV and still retain its ability to be spread by air.

The WHO report notes how HIV has already mutated with tuberculosis in South Africa to make the disease more easily spreadable and harder to manage.

The H1N1 virus is noted for its unique mutation of genetic material from swine, human, and bird flues, a first of its kind ever seen by scientists and medical researchers.

HIV+ patients are especially susceptible to the Swine Flu because their immune systems are already compromised by the HIV virus, and need antivirals the most.

Neverdem - you might want to look into this - might be why the MSM is making such a big deal out of this flu...

Well, we could go to AK and sit on an ice floe until some polar bear has us for dinner. I, too, have disinfectant and put it on after I shop. Price Chopper, a local grocery store, now has disinfectant for that purpose so you can smear it on the handle before shopping. That’s the only place I’ve seen so far. Good idea. My husband is 74 as well.

Swine Flu Makes Air-Borne AIDS?

The first link is a good example of why you should be leary of what you find on the web. They can spread misinformation or confusion.

HIV patients at higher risk from flu, WHO says

At times, I don't know who's more paranoid:

those who fear swine flu inordinately
those who fear all vaccines inordinately
those who fear a gov't cabal for a power grab.

The gov't didn't cover itself with honors during the swine flu epidemic in the 1970s. Who will they test this putative new swine flu vaccine on anyway? How many will have to get the vaccine to see if it is associated with Guillain–Barré syndrome?

There is a bit of logic in this. Older folks (like me) have been exposed and lived thru lot's of flues, we have built up a little resistance. Younger folks and children have not. That said, give it to who ever wants it (I don't) and can afford it.

those who fear swine flu inordinately

those who fear all vaccines inordinately

those who fear a gov't cabal for a power grab.

Those who fear all three?

The last is never to be ruled out while the current regime holds the cards.

The first two are defined by the word "inordinately", so as long as the level of fear is appropriate, it is not inordinate, and we will have to wait and see what is overdone in retrospect.

Granted, fearing the the impossible is not justified.

But, Dear FRiend, If one is loaded for bear and comes upon a mouse, the round will still be effective. If one is loaded for mouse and comes upon a bear, the story may end differently.

Each must gauge the risk to which they feel they must/can afford not to submit themselves and act accordingly, a decision based on as many multivariate factors as there individuals.

Things which I do not view as inordinately risky, others might shy from, still others routinely do things which I feel are not sufficiently rewarded by their level of risk.

Besides, it's only paranoia if you're wrong...

THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, for helping us stay informed as to which things are credible, which are not, and which we must weigh for ourselves.

Wegmans has disinfectant wipes to wipe down the shopping cart handle before you start. That might be a better idea.

My mom also told me that she always washes the tops of canned goods before opening them after seeing some guy in the store sneezing all over them. Then it occurred to me that you just don’t know WHAT ends up on the top of a can sitting on an open shelf.

That’s what Price Chopper has, too. Wegman’s is great. We love that store, especially the fruits and vegetables. PC has raspberries for $2 a small package and I’ve been munching on those. I can eat the whole package right away but hubby likes to save them for my fruit bowl or breakfast. Just yummy. Yikes, sneezing on the cans? I never thought of that. I’ll remind hubby. I would gladly give up my flu shot to my great-grandsons.

This flu affects youth and chidren disproportionately.

In addition, septuagenarians like me have built up a multitude of antibodies, both by having flu shots for twenty years, and having had swine flu during previous pandemics.

Babies, children, youth, and pregnant women first! That’s only fair.
