WASHINGTON (AP) - Despite their denials, influential Democratic Sens. Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd were told from the start they were getting VIP mortgage discounts from one of the nation's largest lenders, the official who handled their loans has told Congress in secret testimony.
Both senators have said that at the time the mortgages were being written they didn't know they were getting unique deals from Countrywide Financial Corp., the company that went on to lose billions of dollars on home loans to credit-strapped borrowers. Dodd still maintains he got no preferential treatment.

This is heartening as Dodd is running into more problems with accepting deals, but disappointing as I believe Conrad is more to the right on Energy and Healthcare.
The good news is that the AP included the party in the first sentence.

Outstanding job of posting.

I bet AP was working overtime trying to figure a way to spin this in a positive lite for Conrad/Dodd.

I predict a Breaking News story from the AP within 24 hours of "Shocking" new information about the Bush administration trying to kill terrorists, and how this could result in indictments, and proves the CIA lied, and so on and so forth.

Why was the testimony secret? Did it get leaked or was it supposed to be revealed? IF it was leaked I am surprised AP reported on it.
Will this revelation matter?? I hope the public cries foul over it.

Perfect post and brought a smile to my face as AP articles are definitely changing. Wonder what is going on with them?

It could be cover for Obama.
Obama is just as guilty as the rest of them for the housing meltdown, if not more so.
ACORN are OBAMA buddies and heavily pressured banks to loan to those who couldn’t pay back.
Obama as Senator and candidate was always blaming greedy business and lack of regulation under Bush, and covered up the real culprits.
With the public losing trust in Pelosi and the Dem House and in Obama the Dem President, and with 60 Dem Senators, I suspect the AP of directing voter ire at a few expendable Dem Senators, thinking that will appease voter anger and direct it away from Obama and Nancy (They don’t want House Dems swept from power.).

Also, since this is my first thread, please let me know if I did anything incorrectly. My only beef would be relating AP to the GOP. The truth knows no party and the GOP has its fair share of politicians that are there for the power and glory - not the truth.

Governor Rell (R) appears to be popular in Connecticut, and she just had several budget vetoes overturned by the democrat controlled Connecticut legislature, so there is a chance to beat Dodd in that state. I think pressing the corruption issue along with pointing out the financial irresponsibility of the dems will help.

Excellent first post. welcome to FR!
Also of note from the article:
“Other names that have surfaced as “friends” of Mozilo include James Johnson, a former head of Fannie Mae who later stepped down as an adviser to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, and Franklin Raines, who also headed Fannie Mae. Still other “friends” included retired athletes, a judge, a congressional aide and a newspaper executive.”
hmmmmm....Do we have the names of these ‘other’ people or is it being kept secret?

Conrad initially said in June 2008, "If they did me a favor, they did it without my knowledge and without my requesting it." The next day, Conrad changed course after reviewing documents showing he got special treatment, and said he was donating $10,500 to charity and refinancing the loan on the apartment building with another lender. He also said then it appeared Countrywide had waived 1 point at closing on the beach house.
Typical Democrat. As long as they don't have the goods on you, deny. Once they catch you red handed, give your ill-gotten gain to charity.
