Conyers Sees No Point in Members Reading 1,000-Page Health Care Bill--Unless They Have 2 Lawyers to Interpret It for Them Monday, July 27, 2009 By Nicholas Ballasy, Video Reporter

(CNSNews.com) - During his speech at a National Press Club luncheon, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.), questioned the point of lawmakers reading the health care bill.

“I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill,’” said Conyers.

“What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

So now even Conyers is saying the bill is filled with so much garbage only a lawyer could interpret. How dumb is that? Pelosi thought she could ran this through before people started finding out what was in the bill.

These idiots are guilty of legislative malpractice when they openly admit they don’t read and therefore don’t know what it is they are voting for! This is akin to a surgeon operating on your heart without looking at the x-ray or angiogram! Get with it people — vote these idiots out of office!!!!!
Just perhaps they shouldn’t be passing legislation even they don’t understand - just a thought!

Here is a link to the full House Democrat Health Care Plan in PDF. In Section 1233 E & F, pages 426-433, you find the part about mandatory end-of-life counseling for anyone over 65 years of age. Section 152 Page 50: All healthcare services will be provided without regard to "personal characteristcs" which is not defined within the document but is understood to include immigration status.

A lot more provisions now being documented at that site.

Also, here's a large image of the Democratic (Obama) Health Plan chart-another Obama empty promise. This is the one the House democrats are censuring. Email these links or the image to everyone you know.

Our idiots in Congress who pass bills without reading or understanding are even more dangerous than a M.D. operating on you with the lights out. The M.D. only might hurt you while the congress critters hurt you, your family, your future kids & grandchildren and the whole country. The nonsense of Pelosi Democrats amounts to criminal intent and we should call them on it. Waiting to vote them out in 2010 could be too late due to the damage they are doing to us.

I guess they have forgotten the meaning of a representative form of government. That they are in fact supposed to read these bills, understand them, and vote in the best interest of their constituency. No member of congress is supposed to vote how they feel, but how the people back home feel.
Getting elected is not an endorsement of the persons judgement. It is saying that they will vote the way the people want. That is not always along party lines!!! Before any vote they should have to go home, and speak with the people to get their take on these bills!!!!

Conyers Sees No Point in Members Reading 1,000-Page Health Care Bill--Unless They Have 2 Lawyers to Interpret It for Them

But he's going to vote for it anyway.

What an incredibly elitist and stupid thing to say. That ONE statement should tell every potential voter EVERYTHING they need need to know about this man in order to decide NOT to vote for his re-election.

...In fact, I'm just going to stand over here in this corner holding my breath and waiting for the voters of Michigan to unseat him...

...so, would one of you please call the paramedics for me? I have a feeling I'm going to need them... ;^)

All the more reason to post bills online for all of us to read before hand...

“Hey...Congressman...Let us the read the bill for you...”

Everyday, there’s something that makes me want to scream about our elected officials.

If people aren’t for term limits after what we’ve watched these past few years, then I think it’s hopeless.

Isn’t this statement a frank and honest admission that Congress abdicated its lawmaking responsibilities long ago and that the public’s image of how the system in Washington works is...quaint? This is a guy who dropped an Acorn probe, coincidentally as his wife’s lawyers began the process negotiating on criminal charges on payoffs, isn’t it? He is no doubt quite used to rich ironies.

A “gaffe” is when a politician accidentally stumbles upon the truth. Yes, it IS ridiculous to plop a 1,000+ page bill on the table and demand passage without reading it, or when the bill’s manager plops a 300+ page amendment on it hours before passage.

He almost said it correctly:

What good is reading proposing the bill if it’s [over] a thousand pages and you don’t have two days take the time to read it and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill
We need to clean house...and senate.

If two lawyers are needed to parse the bill for them, how did they pass law school? They are mostly lawyers, aren't they?

Is this a form of the old maxim, If you aren't smart enough to get a job after graduating from college, you teach?

Congress critters aren't smart enough to hang out a shingle, so they run for office.

It's long overdue for us to return power to the states and get rid of this cancerous corrupt central government. They've exceeded their enumerated powers governing and it's led to too much centralized massive fraud and corruption. Three months every other year in Washington for our central government and restoration of power to the states is needed. Conyers comments are contemptuously arrogant.
