According to a Japanese news agency, Toyota is pulling up stakes at its Fremont, Calif., factory, known as NUMMI. This is the plant that was jointly run by Toyota and GM before GM’s bankruptcy filing this summer. The Detroit-based automaker decided NUMMI — where it built the Pontiac Vibe alongside the Toytoa Matrix and Corolla — was not integral to its future. NUMMI employs 4,700 people and is the only U.S. Toyota plant with UAW employees.

Hmmmm ... California plant; jointly run with Government Motors; the ONLY Toyota plant in the US with UAW workers.

Nothing to see here folks! You 4,700 hundred laid-off works can just blame Bush for this.

The total impact may be 20k jobs in CA. Suppliers will close also.
This is the last car plant in CA. I wonder how many UAW jobs are now left in CA. Probably not many.

Bad for California, good for Toyota. I don't blame them for the shrewd business mood.

We are now a welfare state that punishes wealth, success and good business.
We are growing people who take from us by way of the government and not tax PAYERS.

Decades of the great society and bad public school educations.

California has always led the way - this time, it’s into financial ruin.

However, they can save their reputations by being first to start the upcoming revolution/war. They won’t be alone.

The Matrix/Vibe design was getting a little long-in-the-tooth.

I just got an email from David Axelrod. He stated that 14,700 people will lose their health care today. How can he know that? Why that is almost exactly the same number of people that will lose their job today. Coincidence?

The Obama DemOpression rolls on. It is no longer a recession, folks. This is a politically induced depression, a DemOpression.

Toyota is probably dancing in the street. They probably are thrilled to be rid of the UAW vermin.

I wouldn’t remotely think of opening a plant in Cali... unless the benefit of needing to be near a west coast port was so cost advantageous that it outstripped the rediculously excessive cost of operating there.
