Palin shows what happens to party highjacked by zealots (Anti-Christian PDS Screed)
The Schenectady Daily Gazette ^ | July 12, 2009 | Dan DiNicola

Posted on 07/19/2009 12:55:12 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Who knows how the Sarah Palin story will play out? It seems as if every political pundit in America has a take on Palin’s resignation as Alaska’s governor.

They can be mean-spirited (She’s hiding a scandal!), or cynical (Since she can rake in $60 grand and up for a simple speaking engagement, she’s taking the money and running like hell.)

Some wonder whether this is her way of tuning up for a presidential run in 2012, or is the resignation a case of a hometown girl unable to stand the heat in her kitchen?

We will get more information, but if we stand back, one thing stands true: Palin’s departure signals the bankruptcy of the Republican Party. It’s what happens when the party of Reagan and Lincoln allows itself to be hijacked by the religious right, zealots suckered into the shaky belief that America is a Christian country, forgetting or ignoring the reality that the most prominent of our founding fathers were deists — men who believed in a who god created us and then left us on our own.

If we acknowledge that we are a country founded by religious zealots, we must also recognize that many of the men we regard as founding fathers were secular humanists. Their god was reason. Or as Tom Paine declared, followers of “Common Sense.”

It’s no coincidence that our forefathers made the separation of church and state first on their list of amendments. They knew or feared what would happen if America really did turn into a Christian country.

Petition of 1785

Here’s part of petition signed by group of citizens Chesterfield, Va., in 1785, bidding legislators to avoid that danger:

“Let Jews, Mehometans and Christians of every denomination enjoy religious liberty . . . thrust them not out now by establishing the Christian religion lest thereby we become our own enemys and weaken this infant state. It is men’s labour in our Manufactories, their services by sea and land that aggrandize our Country and not their creeds. Chain your citizens to the state by their Interest. Let Jews, Mehometans, and Christians of every denomination find their advantage in living under your laws.”

By pandering or catering to the religious right, Republican leaders lost their way and, in the process, alienated many of the party faithful turned off by excessive displays of devotion. Colin Powell jumped ship, and it is widely believed that John McCain would have chosen Joe Lieberman as his running mate if the selection would not have offended members of the religious right.

Hence, the selection of a God-fearing, Christian woman, who in an e-mail, announced the birth of her son “not in her name but in God’s.”

As reported in the current issue of Vanity Fair, Palin signed the news of Trig’s birth: “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.”

Can you imagine such a missive coming from traditional Republicans like Eisenhower, Reagan, Lincoln or McCain?

Public opinion

It’s not surprising, writes J.E. Dionne, “that a recent Washington-Post/ABC survey found that only 36 percent of Americans held a favorable opinion of the Republican Party; 56 percent had a negative view. Other polls show the GOP in even worse shape.”

That’s the situation facing Republicans in the next elections. Besides Mitt Romney, who are the leaders? Maybe Sarah Palin should seize the day and accept those lucrative speaking offers before her well dries up.

Does this fool remember the Moral Majority during Reagan’s time?

Except the pandering has been excessively to the center and not to the right.

But excessive displays of devotion are a turn off. Excessive displays of anything always seem to be more posturing than anything else.

Name a Lincoln speech where he DID NOT reference God. That doesn’t make him a zealot. Just a man who knew the order of things.

Forget Reagan, let’s talk Lincoln. Read his second inaugural, can you imagine a politician using such blatant religious terminology in today’s America? They would be done, finished, they would need to resign yesterday and retire in disgrace after voicing sentiments such as those.

Mercy, and here I thought the the GOP was hijacked by the liberal (Eastern) Republicans! Guess I’ll have to go back to GOP school - again!

In reality, the GOP has no chance while the Eastern Liberals are in charge. Guess we will either have to revolt or get use to Socialism with all its warts.

A "zero" worshipper shows disrespect for the worship of God. How edgy.

Every journalist worth his/her salt has to take their shots at Sarah. She is the greatest threat to the obamanation at this time. She is a good, Christian, American woman and shows "zero" to be the marxist empty suit that he is.

Never heard of the author before and I'm sure that I'll never hear of him again. Sarah on the other hand...

Assertion: the most prominent of our founding fathers were deists.

Answer: No. Only Jefferson and Franklin had deist tendencies. Most were devoted Christians.

Assertion: It’s no coincidence that our forefathers made the separation of church and state first on their list of amendments. They knew or feared what would happen if America really did turn into a Christian country.

Answer: No. America was already a Christian country. They feared what would happen to freely exercised religion if the government tried to meddle in religious affairs. So the Constitution forbade such meddling. Today, secular zealots turn this meaning upside down, and conclude the Constitution is excusing them to supress religion, doing just what the Constitution forbade.

I would prefer to see Mitt Romney for 8 followed by Sarah for her 8.

Sarah is only the second woman I thought had the stones to be president....

the first was Jeane Kirkpatrick.

You needn't direct me to a website about Ambassador Kirkpatrick, as I knew her. You do realize that she was a Democrat, don't you? More of a Kennedy/Hubert Humphrey/Scoop Jackson type Democrat, but a Democrat, nonetheless. As for Governor Romney: Mitt Romney is a flip-flopping socialist bum! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-gop/2295275/posts?page=13#13 To: 2ndDivisionVet I love Sarah Palin! Yes, Sarah is up and coming... She is however, the fire that lights the GOP right now and would be a huge advantage to anyone she supports. The problem is that the liberal GOP want nothing to do with her (at their peril since she is very popular among Republicans and the NON-Democratic populace). They seem to be blind to this and if continued, will decrease their popularity to record LOW levels... Time for a NEW party yet?

Yes, people who follow politics know Dr. Kirkpatrick was a Democrat, and a good one -- the kind that you never had to worry about, when the subject was patriotism.

The kind that got overreached by the "Progressive"/Stalinist cabal during the "reforms" of 1968-72. Real Democrats got screwed behind closed doors then, just like Bill Daley tried to screw Dubya behind closed doors in Florida in 2000.

Dr. K. was one of the few Democrats ever to be invited to speak at a GOP convention, I remember that. I also remember Henry the K making a speech at a GOP convention, and the MSM pukes snarking at the humorous spectacle of Dr. K confronting "a sea of polyester".

The same kind of patronizing cultural put-down we see in the current article.

My comment is that liberals are much better at spotting potential future danger than we are. Had we had the foresight and wisdom to spot trouble like Obama and dealt with him back in his state Senate days like they are doing with Palin, we'd all be much better off.

Thus, we see the reason why Palin is crucified daily....they are executing their political conduct of the ideological war brilliantly on a strategic basis.

The only hijacking that’s gone on was done by the RINOs and so called moderates. We “zealots” have always been here and we’re taking control of our own political destiny.

The writer does have good reason to fear but he need not fear us “zealots” what he needs to fear is that more and more Americans are waking up to the fact that moderates are lying manipulative scum. He needs to fear that America will find out that we religious nuts he lumps into one pile, cover a very wide range of relgious thought. In some cases even atheists are very conservative.

What the writer really fears is the truth.

America was already a Christian country.

Through and through.

There could never have been a Declaration of Independence which professed our Unalienable Rights nor a Constitution that protected them without Christianity.

We can thank the minor gods sitting the Supreme Court for turning the establishment clause upside down. The decision was Everson v. Board of Education. Justice Hugo Black came up with the "wall of separation" nonsense. He was a rat Senator, FDR appointee, KKK member, incredibly antisemitic and despised the Catholic Church.

The Supreme Court, the very branch of government designed to be a bulwark defending our liberties and God given rights, is largely responsible for the decline of our once republic.

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House,
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin.
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
He's in charge on November 5th.'"
The Prowler added: "Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."
The Romney supporters in the McCain campaign had access to internal polling which indicated well in advance of the November 4 election that McCain had no chance to win.
So they began working to position their man Mitt for a run in 2012. Just two days after the election,The Palmetto Scoop reported:
"One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
These aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.
Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"Here’s what I think: I think there are some staffers on the McCain campaign who seriously screwed up the roll out of Sarah Palin, to which Governor Palin herself objected.
These staffers are now out trying to finish her off thinking, as typical D.C. types do, that if they don’t do it to her, she’ll do it to them. They just never understood who Palin is or what she is about."
"Likewise, I do think there are some staffers and others who expect Mitt Romney to run again in 2012,
they decided McCain could not win, and decided to undermine Sarah Palin and her chances hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign? (Mark Wallace, Romney pimp)
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

The prominent founding fathers were not deists. Just two, really: Jefferson and Franklin.

Both, however, were Christian deists, as evidenced by their writings and proclivities, such as Franklin’s great love for attending the preaching of George Whitfield.

His conclusion, "Palin’s departure signals the bankruptcy of the Republican Party." is correct. But his argument is totally without merit.

I don't have a clue what Sarah Palin's plans are and I am not certain she actually does, for the long term. Many of us, Constitutional Conservatives, left the bankrupt Republican Political party long ago, for their actions pushed us out. Personally I got the message over a decade ago.

This hack is just another example of the great rift in our republic that has been growing for many decades. He simply doesn't get the real reason behind it.

Many of us are finally waking up to the fact that George Washington tried to warn us about. That being that putting allegiance in "party" will destroy our once great Republic!

In my most humble opinion his dire warnings are all coming true and I am not certain we will have the national will to hold the republic together, nor am I certain it would be worth the effort. I am actually of the mind that we would be much better off if we scrapped the overburdening Republic for smaller ones tied together only in the sense of a mutual defense. But that may well be only my opinion.

I live in the Albany/Schenectady area. Dan DiNicola is an old, light weight movie critic whose grasp of history is a reflection in his media sources. He holds his job because of seniority while others at the TV station & newspaper are laid off. He could opine about Schenectady, a town on its way to being a replica of Gary, IN., but that would require work. In addition he has recently undergone surgery for a brain tumor and that may explain his comments on national politics.
