To meet ambitious renewable energy goals, city must find a way to pay for them.
Austin's electric utility could soon reverse a long-standing practice of selling wind, solar and other renewable energy only to customers who choose to buy it, four Austin City Council members and a mayoral aide said this week.

Austin is so stuck on trying to be *green*, they'll do anything and spend any amount of money to make it happen.
Glad I don't live there any longer. It was expensive to begin with.

GreenChoice customers, like all Austin Energy customers, pay for the maintenance and upkeep of the city's coal plant, nuclear plant "and other facilities they don't get power from," Sloan said. "They're subsidizing power they don't buy, and they shouldn't be." So, just provide power for the GreenChoice customers when the wind is blowing.

Isnt Austin the gerbil stuffing capitol of Texas. More rump rangers per sq mile than San Fran I hear.

Austin is the hippie-dippie San Francisco of Texas. Many people are moving to suburbs to escape the insanity.

Not any more than in any other town, including yours.
Have you ever been there?..or do you just like to repeat hearsay?
Have you ever considered there are wonderful, loving Christian folks in Austin?....would that surprise you?
Did you know there are actual conservative, Reformed Christian churches in Austin?
Did you know this...?
I thought you should!
Maybe you should visit.
Or would you rather make generalizations?

Get over yourself, Gwenny. I was born and raised in Texas. The last time I was in Austin was on a class field trip August 1st 1966. A day Ill never forget. Were you there back then or is being a whiny twit something new to you?

This is your post, the one I objected to...

also.....Is it possible you can conduct civil discourse without resorting to name calling?
I love Texas....
..I don't live in Texas, but someone dear to me does.
Yes, Austin is weird, but I don't think it rises to the level of calumny you depict.
To: Guenevere
I have loved the city of Austin most of my life. I was born 48 miles away in the tiny town of Smithville, and spent many happy hours of my childhood in Austin. At the present time, I live very close to the city of Austin.
The big problem with Austin is, IMHO, that it's run by a bunch of liberal activist kooks. Otherwise, it would still be a great city.
One more thing: I've always had to wonder at anyone who lives there wanting to 'KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD". I suppose I've just never had the desire to live in a weird city.

Calumny? I must confess that I had to look up that word. Since it’s no a secret that Austin has more than its share of chutney ferret bung bugler pillow biters I think the better word for you to use would be hyperbole.

Sure, it's run by liberals....
I simply objected to DogBarkTree's assumption & generalization of the whole town....!!

One man’s hyperbole is another (wo)man’s descriptive phrase :^
