Marines Under Investigation After Autistic Man Allowed to Enlist Pvt. Joshua Fry, Recruited From Group Home, Is In Camp Pendleton Custody on Child Porn, Military Charges By SARAH NETTER

July 17, 2009—

Joshua Fry's career as a Marine never should have been.

Now his recruiter and other military personnel who pushed the autistic 20-year-old through boot camp could face criminal charges.

Fry, who has a history of being abused and neglected and has a criminal record, is sitting in a cell at Camp Pendleton on disciplinary charges as the military investigates why a Marine recruiter picked Fry up from a California group home for the mentally disabled and drove him to a recruitment center to sign him up.

"An investigation into the circumstances of Private Fry's accession in the Corps, could lead to subsequent administrative or criminal proceedings against those directly involved, if warranted, " a high-ranking Marine based at the Pentagon told ABCNews.com.

The Marine, who is familiar with the Fry case, requested not to be identified, but said the Marines are prepared to hold accountable anyone who may have acted improperly during Fry's time with the military.

"The American people rightfully expect a lot of their Marine Corps," he said. "If there is a perception that something is afoul, we will aggressively root out the truth."

Obama will be mandating a minimum percent of autistic people be allowed in military academy. Wouldn’t want to discriminate regardless of skill you know.

A shame, but, then, we allowed an imbecile in the White House, so perhaps this mistake is understandable.

Joshua Fry was the name of my great great ++++ grandfathers, who was born in Virginia in 1770, and became George Washington’s commander until Joshua’s death, in 1750. Washington was then promoted to commander.

Hmmmmmm........

Funny, I mean the Army is full of them you know. I had to keep them crazy autistics who flooded the Army in line for 14 years.

But hey glad you respect the armed services.

No.
Not even.
The USMC’s fingerprints are all over this one.

My Army has it’s own spate of tard recruitments.
No need to take credit for USMC fiascos.

I’m thinking of Forrest Gump.
Does what he’s told, doesn’t display any individuality or initiative.

As long as he isn’t holding his head, muttering about Judge Wapner, he may be good to go ;)

When I went through boot camp about 25 years ago it was harder not to make it then make it. As long as you maintained the right attitude I swear they would recycle you indefinitely. Third phase was kind of a let down. We received some new privates who were pretty much a waste of time. We were sure they would never make it but everyone graduated. It opened our eyes to the reality of the Corps and man power requirements. From what my wife tells me it was worse with the Women Marines.

If he was in posession of child porn, lock him up and throw away the key! The recruitment issue is a side issue!

The Corps is graduating recruits from the MCRD that should be sent home, much to the frustration of the training cadre.

It is so true when they say we make fun of what we fail to understand. How dare you speak of individuals with Autism when you obviously have NO CLUE what you are talking about. The IGNORANCE shown here floors me, especially with the media attention being paid to this disorder. Are you really that shallow that you believe that anyone with a special need should have been ABORTED? “Forced on society”...”defective” EXCUSE ME? Who are you to judge? What about Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft? He developed the computer software you used to post that “uninformed” message of yours. Guess what? It is likely he has Asperger’s Syndrome, a high-functioning form of Autism. What about Einstein and Thomas Jefferson? All 3 men have been major contributors to society, and all 3 have/had autistic characteristics. Unfortunately, Fry did not receive the intervention at an early age that is needed and has suffered abuse (probably by “geniuses” like yourselves) who took advantage of his child-like innocence, which is a common characteristic of the disorder. It is unfortunate that Fry was bounced around, discarded by his family and allowed to fall through the cracks. His case isn’t typical of most people with high-functioning autism. The military had no business recruiting from a group home in the first place!
