U.S. Commission on Civil Rights ^ | September 2004 | U.S. Commission on Civil Rights

If you’re a young Lakota woman with a big heart, an even bigger smile, but an immune system compromised to its brink by lupus—you know who the enemy is. If you’re a tribal chairman receiving a phone call in the middle of the night that another one of your tribal members has taken their own life—you know who the enemy is....

We keep arguing against Obamacare by using the Canadian or British systems (among others) as horrible examples of how bad it will be. The counter-argument is always that "ours will be different, better, wiser, etc. Here's an example of how well our government operates a health care system.

Shouldn't we demand that they get this one right before we let take on any more responsibilities in this area?

"Here's an example of how well our government operates a health care system"

Look what the government is doing to the VA and Military Retiree health care programs. Apparently their motto is: "Promise everything, deliver as little as possible".

Another pathetic supplicant waiting in line for the government tit. Keep in mind that politicians and government workers are ahead of you in that line. The tit will be very dry when its your turn.

Disturbing. Government is so inept, dangerously so. Government-run anything is like the Keystone Cops, but with very bad consequences.

And the elderly will be the first to be denied life-saving treatment under Obamacare:

Rush brought up that very point yesterday about reservation health care. I don’t know why this issue has never been brought up. I did a lot growing up in Four Corners area and from a young age I learned who was in charge of their slaves, the Federal Government.

Yes, this and the VA and Medicare should be fixed before they do anything else.

Write/call/email your family and friends to burn up those fax & phone lines to their congresscritters to NOT EVEN CONSIDER passage of this or any other Obamacare initiatives. Also might consider telling them not to even think of passing a bill until they have read it and understand it's repercussions.

Might also want to throw in that they should be willing to have the same type of healthcare they are forcing on us - that should kill it immediately

The Indian’s greatest enemy is tribalism. It prevents them from becoming fully American. Drop the government programs, end the farce of tribal “sovereignty,” and integrate them into society already. They can still hold onto heritage and tradition with out pretending to an actual separate nation. Early immigrants did it, so can they.

I’ve had three friends tell me this photo was not to their liking and one asked me what Jesus would do.

I told her He’d laugh at this one like He laughed at all the Bush ones.

Whadda you say?

Even more so because we tend to vote Republican the older we get and wise. We don’t have to be “Latina” to be wise, either!!

Not in the cards, be the same as demanding everybody to give up their belief in God. It's more family than tribe. You should see how the families within villages fight amongst themselves. I live around Indians 50 years removed from the stoneage, village is a mile away from my house; know them very well.

They have lost everything they started with a 100 years back, some would say had it stolen off them. Their future ain't bright either, massive social probs with alcohol being a crutch for their pains over what has occurred to their people; most just want left alone to go extinct. Almost like govt sponsered genocide actually.

Canada does a better job bringing their Indians up to speed than USA. They do the carott & stick to develop work ethic & what we call good citizenship traits; it works for some too. In USA, money is just thrown at the problem with no positive results, real shame as Indians are pretty decent bunch once you get to know them and not judge them like White people.

In Alaska, the Native health care is top notch, no joke. Since it's free their health is realtively good after years of hard livin lifestyles. If they didn't have govt health care, they'd never go to a doctor anyway. I guess that gives you an idea what govt health care could become??????

As everyone else is saying, just look to the VA, and the way they screw those who fight for us as a perfect example of government run health-care. But, my biggest question—and which is the question that none of these so called reporters ask is—why is just because it is government run does it mean that it is going to be any better?

Because...uh...profits are evil.

Don't forget folks, for over two hundred years these people have been molded by our government (you) into what they are today. That is, sucking on the governments hind tit. They cling to the government handouts because that is all they know. Although several tribes are building their own schools and hospitals now due to the Casino money coming in.(again thanks to all you white gamblers) Yes they do a lot of in fighting amongst them selves but let an outsider attack them and they rally together like George Armstrong Custer found out.

They are not an easy people to befriend as they distrust outsiders (guess why), but, once you make a friendship with them, they will give you their last ear of corn. I've lived with them all my life (as I is one).

Immigrants and American Indians are as apples and oranges. The Immigrants come over here to be free. The natives were already here and already free and either brought under bondage or done away with. (for their own good, supposedly) Your statement "Early immigrants did it", is that still true today? (consider the southern border)

Here's the rub: that same government is now bringing us ALL under servitude under a tyrant named Liberalism.

Wasn't puttin the Indians down one bit. I spend much more time with the local Indians than Whites as they are better class of people; once you get past the societal differences; understand them some; I think you know what I'm talking about.

I don't see the Athabaskan's accepting our values and world view; they see it as screwed up.
