What if Palin had become vice president?
(Hamilton OH) Journal-News ^ | 7/13/09 | James Mignerey

Posted on 07/14/2009 5:04:36 AM PDT by steve-b

Sarah Palin is, and always has been, an intellectual and political featherweight. As a moose-killing Barbie doll, she was exactly what the Republican Party in Alaska wanted for a mouthpiece. She was adored by the Republican masses in Alaska (she carried a gun and favored secession, the only qualifications needed).

That worked well for Alaska. It enhanced the image of Alaska to have someone in frilly blouses, rather than plaid wool shirts, to front for their oil industry. Good for Alaska.

Then something weird happened. The Republican Party nominated the oldest person ever put forth by a major political party for president. While he seemed to be in good health, they were worried about the geriatric image this person gave of the Republican Party. Besides his advanced age, he espoused the same worn-out and proven ineffectual Ponzi schemes which were fast becoming revealed to an American populace, no longer content with the wool being pulled over their eyes.

With extreme misfortune for the Republican Party, the Democratic Party nominated a young, athletic, good-looking, vastly intelligent, multi-racial — and did I mention, young? — senator, with a photogenic wife and family. There was quite a contrast.

You had the old senator, with no plan, with "Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran" for a theme song and a multimillionaire trophy wife to replace the plain one he had while a POW, against a dynamic young senator, with new ideas and new plans to take the country back to greatness, after eight years of mismanagement and malfeasance. And worst of all for the Republicans, he had the ability to say that he was not a bit like George Bush.

What could the Republicans do? Well, they couldn't put forward any plans. They didn't have any. They couldn't run against the people who brought America down. They were the people who brought America down. So what could they do?

Send in the clowns.

They thought: "We need something different. We need a woman on the ticket."

There were a few women in positions of power in the Republican Party who actually had some experience and were qualified to at least run for higher office. Did they pick any of those women? That would have made sense.

So they didn't do that. They picked their concept of what they needed to counteract the vitality of the Democratic ticket. They picked the Alaskan version of Britney Spears.

No thought was apparently given to finding out if this person actually had the ability or the smarts to possibly become a real live president of the United States. It wasn't worth their time to find out if this woman was remotely fit for the position. She looked and talked good. Sort of. In a Republican sort of way. And they just didn't care what she might and could do to America.

And did the wise old man, who was the titular head of the party, object when this person was presented to him as his running mate? Nah. Did he care about the future of America? Or did he think that this stunt might be the only way he could live in the White House? I suggest that you pick option 2. That's what happened.

Now I have to ask all the folks — the Republican base — who attended those rallies and screamed about and voted for the guy who wasn't quite sure how many houses he owned and the Barbie doll who thought "Russia was just over the horizon" was a foreign policy statement: If Sarah Palin had been elected as vice president, would you have thought it a grand idea that she would cut and run halfway through her term? Why finish her term when there are book deals and right-wing conventions to arouse for money?

You have to wonder what the John Boehner-type voters were thinking, if anything, when they cheered Sarah "Cut and Run" Palin. Not much, probably.

Hamilton is a dying town with nothing to offer anyone. They can’t even fund a winter ice festival any longer. There is not much besides white trash in that hole of a town and its community values are espoused by typical white guilt hate mongers like the author of this barf piece.

Hamilton, you will be a dried up ghost town when your messiah is finished with his assault on middle class, fly over America. How’s that hope change thingy working out for you?

Has anyone else noticed that the the lefts fear of Palin grows greater everyday???

I have spoken with MANY liberals(I am not afraid of them) and they are PETRIFIED of Gov Palin.

The left sees Palin as the second coming of Ronald Reagan.

Their words, not mine.

Time will tell.

After that 'change' in how much you will be writing on your income tax checks, how long before you will be 'hoping' for a return to those years of mismanagement and malfeasance. Yeah, those years. You know, low taxes, low unemployment, growing economy, all that stuff your hero hates. Oh, and you just can't wait to make excuses for the first terrrorist attack. Call me when your paper goes out of business for lack of readers willing to pay 10 bucks to read your excuses for 20 percent unemployment and 50 percent inflation.

BTW, did you get named in honor of jimmy carter?

This is a pitiful article. One endless ad hominem after another. This person doesn't even seem to have a clue about Mrs. Palin at all and seems to be simply piling on the smear bus as a good little tool of the left.

It is becoming more apparent by the day that their are an enormous amount of people in this country who are terrified of Mrs. Palin’s potential.

RE :”Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges

Of course she has been baiting much of this personality-driven news being the conservative rock star. If she wants to be taken seriously she needs to get off the victim train. She could have said she quit to turn her attention to the damage done in Washington and left off the ‘attack my family’ message that appeals to hard core groupies and talk radio. Palin will not go far solely as a conservative rock star contrary to much opinion here.

How about she address Obama-care bills being formed?

Steve-b, you wanna' keep putting these articles in here you have to NOT do it when you encounter any one of several gross errors and distortions that do little more than piss people off or make them question your own grasp of current affairs and reality.

No, Sarah didn't support secession. Her hubby, like many others, appears to have supported the American Independenxw party ~ which a lot of Leftwingtards wrongly and foolishly describe as a secessionist group. The state voting registrar's office said "Gov. Sarah Palin first registered to vote in the state in May 1982 as a Republican, and she has not changed her party affiliate with the Division of Elections since that time." Which means if you can believe the birthcertificate folks in Hawaii you can believe the voter registration people in Alaska.

So, what happens when we get to something like that accusation is we stop reading the piece and look at who posted it.

What we want are red-meat stories ~ like the 7 members of La Raza who blew themselves up a decade ago (or more) in Colorado with faulty homemade bombs remarkably similiar in function to the inferior bomb design Bill Ayers (Obama's friend) gave his girlfriend and homosexual lover ~ which blew up prematurely and killed them (right there in New York City even).

Yup, that kind of article ~ with a link to your girl, Sonja Sotomayor.

She had her La Raza period ~ think it was about that time.

See the connection ~ Bill Ayers, Barack Obama, La Raza, Weather Underground, bad bomb design, death, destruction and, lo and behold, Sonja Sotomayor.

See how easy it was ~ now, go get us a current story about that ~ certainly must be somebody in the MSM whose on top of that one. Maybe one of the guys at NYT has some stuff he's been saving up for years and years and it's time to UNSPIKE it.

My own theory is the "family" are simply on loan from a supporter, and photogenic? Well, she does fill the camera lens.

It's kind of like the man has a matron to watch after him lest he fall over ~ did you notice how many times this Obama guy has literally fallen over ~ watch the 16 year old in Italy, kissing the Arab king's hand, and on and on and on. He can't stand up without a teleprompter.

This is the same newspaper that endoresed Jimmy Carter over Ronald Reagan. Hamilton was my hometown... The Journal is much more liberal than the population. The paper is a joke!
