It’s okay for the Comander in Chief to smoke but not the front line soldier. Brilliant.

This guy, Smith, wants to force troops with high powered weapons, under a great deal of stress in the field, to quit nicotine?

I would SO want to see him try to relieve one of our soldiers of his Marlboros, or of his chew.

Go to Flight Deck Control on a CV between launches & recoveries, and you’ll see smoke so thick the Handler can’t see the Ouija board! Every warrant, chief, & flight deck director lighted up.

So they ban smoking. What are they going to do if someone is caught smoking? Cut off a hand? That would be the Kenyan way.

No word yet on trying to save military healthcare dollars but getting rid of the homosexuals. I don't think we'll see that "study."

The navy banned tobacco on subs, wonder if this is the reason for the uptick in accidents.

Tobacco keeps you alert when you are exhausted. It is a stimulant in extreme conditions and heightens your senses.

I wonder how many will die because of this.

Now, wait a minute . . . Obama, our Kenyan-born, illegal alien, so called commander-in-chief smokes . . . in our White House, no less . . . so it’s ok for the supposed commander-in-chief (who, by the way, doesn’t even have a Selective Service Number), but it’s not ok for our GIs!

One of the physiological effects of nicotine is the constriction of the peripheral blood vessels--which can give the impression of offsetting the effects of alcohol, but can also slow the progress of shock. Which is why so many tobacco consumers want a smoke or a chew in times of extreme stress or after a traumatic experience. It is only the rampant denial of any positive effects of tobacco which continues the jihad against it.

Fabulous. As a Captain, I’d have to subdivide my berthing to accommodate up to FIVE separate genders, to no good military end.

I could catch sailor’s popping each other in the stern, without using a prophylactic, and apparently that would all be OK.

However, put a dip in and get ‘Conduct Unbecoming’?

Right.

Good luck with THAT one. One of the things I noticed about the military is that almost everybody smokes, chews or dips.

BTW, Hitler tried to get the German people to stop smoking, but smoking increased in spite of anti-smoking efforts. If the original anti-smoking Nazis couldn't do it (and they were FAR more ruthless in their methods), I seriously doubt you're gonna get the American military man to do it.

I think the whole anti-smoking campaign was started by liberals because every knows they're soft on illicit drugs.

Excellent point! But the most important is the guys and gals who volunteer to serve our country should be allowed to smoke, damn the alledged extra cost to the VA!

...F*** the nannystaters and the smoke nazis...

Just watch what they do once they get control of everybody's health insurance.

This is how they'll get people to give up their guns. Fed.gov will decree that guns in homes are health hazards and they'll either jack up premiums or refuse to cover you at all.

People will give up their guns because they'll need health care.

Another benefit of nicotine is that it’s an appetite suppresant. I remember when C rats came with a 5-pack of smokes in the box. You can bet that the tangoes won’t stop shooting just because it’s chow time.

Years and years ago, my husband and I went camping way up north in WI. My brother-in-law was an ex-Marine, he did two tours in ‘Nam. We were really roughing it, we planned on living off of the c-rations he gave us and the fish we caught. We had both decided to quit smoking (I was 3 months pregnant) so we didn’t bring any cigs. The first evening we opened the rations and found a 5 pack of Marlboros. Needless to say, we ended up opening up all the rations for the cigarettes.
My son turned out ok, he’s 6’3’’ and teaches math and physics at an exclusive private school.

Oh, and I caught 7 walleye on that trip.

That's the old navy. I was perusing some old cruisebooks in the library onboard Ike smiling at the photos of smoldering ashtrays in the workspaces. Not anymore.

Today's modern CVN has two underway smoking sponsons for E-6 and below and one for E-7 and above on the stbd side hanger deck. Everyone smokes on the portside catwalks under the flightdeck while in port.

After GQ secures, the line for the smokepits stretches across the hanger bay! I love the smokepits. That's where all the good gossip takes place.
