the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Liberals don't need no stinkin facts - they know it's warmin' - they's got feeeeelings.

This is almost certainly the second summer of the second LITTLE ice age, i.e. LIA-II.
Real ice ages had cosmic causes, and there is nothing on the horizon which could cause such a thing at present.

And yet, the G8 just agreed they must stop Global Warming.
A fine collection of Galloping Neaderthals they.

Its been one seriously cool June and now July this year. Most nights are getting down into the 50s with an occasional 40s thrown in for good measure.
Last night I saw that prism effect in the clouds due to ice crystals in the atmosphere. I don’t usually see that during the summer.

Watch this space and mark my words:
The Democrats will pass draconian Global Warming legislation, then next election will claim that the overall cooler temperatures were a direct result of the actions they took.

From the article, they are already cooking up why man is to blame. We make it hot and cold at the same time apparently.
“Man, too, may be somewhat responsible for the cooling trend. The University of Wisconsin's Reid A. Bryson and other climatologists suggest that dust and other particles released into the atmosphere as a result of farming and fuel burning may be blocking more and more sunlight from reaching and heating the surface of the earth.”

TIME IN 1974
the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. ok so per Time in 74 from 44 to 74 (=three decades)it was cooling...but now over the same three decades with same data they say it was warming?...
Well we see how they count everything else...
This only works in lib logic...
It living data/history...it's relative truth...it whatever we say it is whenever we say it...IT THE MAD HATTER TEAPARTY!

"Were they wrong then? Or are they wrong now?"
They probably were and are wrong. And if they are correct now about an impending ice age, I don't care. ...can save-up for some malamutes and a sled. ;-)

It makes some sense. 30 years ago we started getting serious about reducing the emissions from automobiles, so we could be seeing the effects of lowering auto emissions too far...
We’ll know if the rivers start freezing solid again like they used to...

It was always colder in the 50’s and 60’s and we are getting back to it.
The article did not mention global warming which is a surprise and a relief. It ran counter to the ‘everything is heating up’ craze.
I wonder if the reporter got yelled at for not including the mandatory boilerplate of manmade CO2 poisoning of the atmosphere.

Here's a NY Times article from 120 years ago, February 1889:
IS OUR CLIMATE CHANGING? They were surprisingly balanced back then. It ends with:
not only is it impossible for us to know whether any change is taking place in our climate, but that it will require some hundreds of years of observation before we can know what our climate is.

Here's another NY Times article from 121 years ago, studying temperatures going back to the year 462:
IS CLIMATE CHANGING? Their answer: no.
Formerly wine was made in England, the change of climate might be the principal reason that this manufacture does not now flourish.

Here's an article from the Erie Observer 160 years ago looking forward to the coming global warming:
CHANGE OF CLIMATE It ends with:
What has been wrought there will by like causes by wrought here. And the time must come, when our climate shall be one of the most delightful under the sun. But our children's children will be in their grave ere that blessed day.
