Another Ice Age?
Time Magazine ^ | Jun. 24, 1974

Posted on 07/09/2009 6:38:30 PM PDT by South40

As they review the bizarre and unpredictable weather pattern of the past several years, a growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seemingly contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval.

However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing.

This is almost certainly the second summer of the second LITTLE ice age, i.e. LIA-II.

Real ice ages had cosmic causes, and there is nothing on the horizon which could cause such a thing at present.

Its been one seriously cool June and now July this year. Most nights are getting down into the 50s with an occasional 40s thrown in for good measure.

Last night I saw that prism effect in the clouds due to ice crystals in the atmosphere. I don’t usually see that during the summer.

I heard it was 1998 and not 2001. No matter the trend is down. The climate fluctuates without any help from man. Always has. Global Warming is a big con job to put money into the pockets of the manipulators and traders.

Watch this space and mark my words:

The Democrats will pass draconian Global Warming legislation, then next election will claim that the overall cooler temperatures were a direct result of the actions they took.

From the article, they are already cooking up why man is to blame. We make it hot and cold at the same time apparently.

“Man, too, may be somewhat responsible for the cooling trend. The University of Wisconsin's Reid A. Bryson and other climatologists suggest that dust and other particles released into the atmosphere as a result of farming and fuel burning may be blocking more and more sunlight from reaching and heating the surface of the earth.”

TIME IN 1974 the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing.

ok so per Time in 74 from 44 to 74 (=three decades)it was cooling...but now over the same three decades with same data they say it was warming?...

Well we see how they count everything else...

This only works in lib logic...

It living data/history...it's relative truth...it whatever we say it is whenever we say it...IT THE MAD HATTER TEAPARTY!

It makes some sense. 30 years ago we started getting serious about reducing the emissions from automobiles, so we could be seeing the effects of lowering auto emissions too far...

We’ll know if the rivers start freezing solid again like they used to...

Real ice ages had cosmic causes

I just have to question you on exactly what you mean by this statement.

Are you positing that the sun in some way caused/causes the ice ages that the Earth has gone, and will go, through?
Or are there other "cosmic" causes that you are positing?

Buy your dogs now ~ think of them as little portable meat lockers.

The last glaciation (Younger Dryas) happened so fast critters got frozen with fresh food in their mouths.

You'll need those dogs.

It was always colder in the 50’s and 60’s and we are getting back to it.

The article did not mention global warming which is a surprise and a relief. It ran counter to the ‘everything is heating up’ craze.

I wonder if the reporter got yelled at for not including the mandatory boilerplate of manmade CO2 poisoning of the atmosphere.

If you run the plot from 1998, the trend is not as clear. Yes, I edit the scientific data to make my point clearer, if the left can so can I. I start at 2001 to get an unambiguous cooling trend line.

Go to www.woodfortrees.org , you can plot the GISS database that NASA/NOAA uses or the HADCRUT database that normal scientists use. It takes a bit to learn to use the plotter, but I take great delight showing libs the actual climate data in black and white.

There have been theories that the sun's output diminishes from time to time. So much so that the heliosphere moves to within earth's orbit, exposing the planet to cosmic rays. Another theory suggests our movement through the “cosmic plane” exposes us to more interstellar debris like comets and asteroids.

I suspect there are significant cyclical events man has not witnessed that are capable of wiping out most life on the planet.

OK, I can accept all that.

My own theory on cosmic events causing an ice age, or a warming age, is that the Earth, while advancing on it's cosmic way, passes through areas of the galaxy/universe that have more, or less, small dust particles thereby causing a decrease, or increase, in the amount of sunlight getting to the Earth.

It doesn't have to be something big, a bunch of small somethings could do it also.
