As they review the bizarre and unpredictable weather pattern of the past several years, a growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seemingly contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval.
However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing.

Always been at war with Eastasia.
I wish.. it was 111 in my car when I left work today.
1The whole globe has been cooling since 2001.

2) Climate change (scratch that)
3) Global climatic upheaval (Use this until further notice)
liberals are in charge... welcome to hell.
please note the temperature
I live in Southern CA. (25m N. of L.A.) and the high today was 73F. In fact, it hasn’t gotten above 85F since Summer began on 6/21.
I know it has been nice.
maunder minimum = new ice age
the rest of the world needs to start paying us to emit carbon!
Is this the first time it’s been hot in Texas?
Liberals don't need no stinkin facts - they know it's warmin' - they's got feeeeelings.
It can ice up all it wants, the weather be hot as heck down here.
Real ice ages had cosmic causes, and there is nothing on the horizon which could cause such a thing at present.
A fine collection of Galloping Neaderthals they.
Yes and yes.
Rule of thumb that will never fail you: They are always wrong.
Its been one seriously cool June and now July this year. Most nights are getting down into the 50s with an occasional 40s thrown in for good measure.
Last night I saw that prism effect in the clouds due to ice crystals in the atmosphere. I don’t usually see that during the summer.
Well, yes. It’s just that it’s been hot since the end of may. My location’s been without rain for 44 days.
I heard it was 1998 and not 2001. No matter the trend is down. The climate fluctuates without any help from man. Always has. Global Warming is a big con job to put money into the pockets of the manipulators and traders.
Watch this space and mark my words:
The Democrats will pass draconian Global Warming legislation, then next election will claim that the overall cooler temperatures were a direct result of the actions they took.
Free kimchee for everyone. Or at least me. I'll do my share for the earth.
Cows, you know what to do.
“Man, too, may be somewhat responsible for the cooling trend. The University of Wisconsin's Reid A. Bryson and other climatologists suggest that dust and other particles released into the atmosphere as a result of farming and fuel burning may be blocking more and more sunlight from reaching and heating the surface of the earth.”
ok so per Time in 74 from 44 to 74 (=three decades)it was cooling...but now over the same three decades with same data they say it was warming?...
Well we see how they count everything else...
This only works in lib logic...
It living data/history...it's relative truth...it whatever we say it is whenever we say it...IT THE MAD HATTER TEAPARTY!
Nice and cool in upstate SC. Don’t think we broke 80 and it’s almost chilly tonight.
...but it’s a dry heat...
You can bet on it. And Obama himself will get the credit.
Who says God has no sense of humor?
The best thing about living through a mini ice age would be watching folks use copies of algor’s “An Inconvenient Truth” as fire starters.
That's SOOOOOOO 1970's !!!
I thought they settled on Climate Crisis.
It makes some sense. 30 years ago we started getting serious about reducing the emissions from automobiles, so we could be seeing the effects of lowering auto emissions too far...
We’ll know if the rivers start freezing solid again like they used to...
I just have to question you on exactly what you mean by this statement.
Are you positing that the sun in some way caused/causes the ice ages that the Earth has gone, and will go, through?
Or are there other "cosmic" causes that you are positing?
The last glaciation (Younger Dryas) happened so fast critters got frozen with fresh food in their mouths.
You'll need those dogs.
It was always colder in the 50’s and 60’s and we are getting back to it.
The article did not mention global warming which is a surprise and a relief. It ran counter to the ‘everything is heating up’ craze.
I wonder if the reporter got yelled at for not including the mandatory boilerplate of manmade CO2 poisoning of the atmosphere.
I live in Tennessee and am sitting here thinking about putting on a sweater in July.
Here in the NY area it was cool and it rained the whole month of June , now in July it’s been as cool as October so far. I had to wear a jacket early this morning and had it on again tonight.I live for the summer and feel like I’m getting cheated here .Global Warming my ass.
It would still a better alternative to paying for air conditioning now. But I’ll consider being prepared to get a couple of yaks and some of what is now lowland desert property a little to the south. ;-)
Al Gore = EPIC FAIL
Agreed. Bipartisan politicians in general: Epic fail. ...and their few favored constituents all (including real estate interests, importers, merchants, and their relatives in media, academia, government offices,...). ;-)
The sooner the defaults happen, the better off we’ll be.
If you run the plot from 1998, the trend is not as clear. Yes, I edit the scientific data to make my point clearer, if the left can so can I. I start at 2001 to get an unambiguous cooling trend line.
Go to www.woodfortrees.org , you can plot the GISS database that NASA/NOAA uses or the HADCRUT database that normal scientists use. It takes a bit to learn to use the plotter, but I take great delight showing libs the actual climate data in black and white.
I thought that yesterday we were at war with Oceania?
are YOU questioning the Ministry of Truth?
I just have to question you on exactly what you mean by this statement.
Asteroids, comets, and/or changes in the nature of the solar system itself.
I suspect there are significant cyclical events man has not witnessed that are capable of wiping out most life on the planet.
ping
OK, I can accept all that.
My own theory on cosmic events causing an ice age, or a warming age, is that the Earth, while advancing on it's cosmic way, passes through areas of the galaxy/universe that have more, or less, small dust particles thereby causing a decrease, or increase, in the amount of sunlight getting to the Earth.
It doesn't have to be something big, a bunch of small somethings could do it also.
If CO2 levels suddenly increased to 15,000 ppm then all mammals would die immediately; we better get busy.
Here, too.
Although this summer has not been as hot as summers past.
Not yet, anyway. I'm sure it's coming.
