Soooo, we’ve got a Hispanic woman who speaks no English working at an Asian food store.
Is this what they mean by celebrating diversity?
Maybe...however, to me it’s an ethnic Chinese nephew from Brazil, whose first language is Portugese, second language is German and third language is English. After graduating from Notre Dame, he came to Chicago to work. He was recently stopped by some tourists from Taiwan who asked for directions in Chinese because their English was so poor. He kept on saying, “I don’t speak Chinese” in all three languages.
Finally, the grandfather in the group spoke to him in German (he had learned in the Thirties at a German polytechnic college) and they evetually went on their way.
My nephew’s description of the incident was pretty hilarious especially since he employed the words “like” and “dude” so much.
She’s alone in a market. Guy comes in with a gun. It transcends languages that this is a robbery. Bet she laughed her head off later in retelling the story to friends.
I do the same when I go through a kinda English speaking fast food drive-thru.
