The Uighurs’ cry has echoed round the world

The deaths in northwest China are, sadly, the inevitable result of the repression of Turkic peoples over six decades

The massacre of Uighur demonstrators in the cities of Urumqi and Kashgar has been reported in every language, from English to Chinese to Portuguese to Arabic. While the intense repression against Uighurs is normally ignored by both the Chinese Government and the international media, the deaths of hundreds of protesters and the injuries of hundreds more has exposed the brutality of Chinese government actions toward Uighurs in a way that cannot be ignored.

Instead of taking action to recognise the cause of Uighurs’ demonstrations, or to acknowledge that the problems in East Turkestan [known by the Chinese as Xinjiang] derive from the Chinese Government’s inability to resolve discontent, Chinese officials have resorted to blaming “outside forces”, including me and one of the organisations I lead, the World Uighur Congress. Just as Chinese officials placed the blame for widespread demonstrations in Tibet on the Dalai Lama, they claim that overseas Uighur organisations “instigated” the demonstrations in East Turkestan. I in no way organised or called for any demonstrations.

While I am no fan of slam, the Chinese have been brutally destroying the Uighurs. These people, the Uighurs, had their own empire in the 3rd century AD that rivalled the Chinese. They are Turkic speaking, racially more Tungushic and not Chinese. They were initially Christians (Nestorian Christians belonging to the Assyrian Church) and Buddhist until the 9th and 10th centuries when the conversion toIslam (in their case, largely peaceful through Sufi missionaries) happened.

The Uighurs were once 95% of the people in East Turkestan (once being 50 years ago), but now they are just 60% and that number is declining fast as the Chicoms are encouraging Han migration to East turkestan.

Their culture has been destroyed -- Kashgar, one of the main centres on the Silk Route and with millenia of history, was razed by the chicoms.

their language has been destroyed with forced language of Han Chinese.

What we see happening to the Tibetans is what has already happened to the Uighurs.

You must understand the PC here...Chi-Coms killing Buddhist Tibetans is a bad thing. OTOH Chi-Coms killing Muslim Uighurs well that a good thing....no make that a very good thing. The Uighur are among the most liberal of all muslims I have met. The women didn’t wear veils, the people drink alcohol and interaction between the sexes is not frowned at at all. The people are friendly and hospitable. Their language is a little rough but it wasnt because they weren’t friendly.

IF the West equates all Muslims with the AQ breed, we will make them that way. If we say the kind of things I see ignorant people say about the Uighur here, we will leave them with no viable option but to follow into the folds of OBL. I don’t think that will serve us well. Also, I see a lot of new usernames on FR in support of the Chinese Govt. More Chicom agents flooding FR perhaps???

It is a land that was conquered by the Chinese in the early 1900s and the people are being systematically destroyed. Don't forget that uighurs were Assyrian Christians until the 1200s and only became Sufi Muslimms. Sufi's don't do that -- that's been the handiwork of Sunnis and Shias, but Sufi-ism incorporates more mysticism and esoteric rituals (Wahabbis consider them heretics and many of the attacks in Pakistan have been Wahabbis attacking or bombing sufi pir's mosques and dargahs).

The reason I brought it up is that they were Christian but then converted under the influence of a mystical sect of Islam -- not by the sword as happened elsewhere. Secondly, this was mostly peaceful until recently when Wahabbi's infiltrated the uighurs (thanks to Saudi Arabian funding) -- and the uighurs who had received no help from any other quarters resorted to the last option, islamic terrorism.

This is NOT true for other Islamic terrorists who didn't have compulsions (their ancient homelands destroyed -- and don't bring up Palestinians, history shows that they were mostly people from Egypt, syria, iraq who came there when the Jews returned and revitalised the land). the Uighurs are being slowly radicalised due to China's decimation of them. Is it too late for them? I don't think so.

So the Islam most of the Iranians grew up with and the one you became attracted to were not very much different. The truth is however, that isn't Islam. And the danger is that once you are brainwashed into accepting Muhammad as a messenger of God, then you can easily become a terrorist. The passage from Sufism to Terrorism is so smooth that you won't even notice it. It is as easy as reading the Quran and believing it. That is why Islam must be discarded wholesale.
