You might consider stopping in a Monticello.

Sorry, I've never been to VA Beach, though it's only about a two hr drive away.

Virginia Beach area (known as “Hampton Roads”) is home to Busch Gardens Europe, Water Country USA, and Ocean Breeze amusement parks, Colonial Williamsburg, Nautilus marine science museum, a Norfolk navy museum, Virginia Aquarium & Marine Center, First Landing, Virginia Zoological Society,...

And you’ll find the malls no problem.

As a transplanted Yankee, I’m still finding Golden Corral buffets pretty awesome. I’m in Northern Virginia, though, and the ones up here aren’t as good.

Head south on Atlantic Avenue. Turn right before crossing the bridge at Rudees Inlet. Travel to Rudee’s Inlet Restaurant. They have an outdoor veranda where you and your family can sit on large gliders and enjoy the marina over a cocktail and appetizers. Arrive for dinner by 5PM to get a good seat.

Yep. Head back west on I-64 toward Williamsburg and you’ll come to Busch Gardens and some great outlet malls.
