GOP Ticket Leads in New Poll

- Public Policy Polling Shows Clears Leads for McDonnell, Bolling, Cuccinelli -

RICHMOND – Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins today noted the results of a new poll released by the firm Public Policy Polling, which shows each of the three Republican statewide candidates with a clear lead following the Democratic primary election. Candidate for governor Bob McDonnell leads Creigh Deeds by a 49-to-43 margin; Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling leads Jody Wagner by 46-to-40; and Sen. Ken Cuccinelli bests Steve Shannon 45-to-38 in the race for attorney general.

“Several polls conducted immediately after the primary had shown Deeds moving into the lead but it appears his bounce has worn off,” reported PPP in a press release from Dean Debnam, president of the firm.

Additional good news for McDonnell in the poll is his 21-point lead among self-described independents: 54-to-33.

“It’s pretty clear that any boost the Democrats may have gotten from the publicity surrounding their primary election has disappeared,” RPV Chairman Mullins said. “It’s also obvious that the more Virginians tune into the race, the more they like our impressive slate of candidates.”

The poll was conducted between June 30th and July 2nd and contacted 617 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

“It’s clear that voters are hungry for candidates who have innovative ideas for how to bring jobs to Virginia and inject some energy into the economy,” Mullins said. “Our Republican candidates best represent those ideas.”

Details of the poll can be found here: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_VA_707.pdf

“While this is good news, we are aware that this campaign is a marathon and not a sprint,” Mullins said. “We intend to run hard and strong and continue to spread our optimistic message of jobs and economic opportunity for all Virginians.”

I’d rather have our 2 senate seats back but at least holding the governor’s mansion and local delegation will help with reapportionment with the 2010 census.

If McDonnell is doing that well among Indies, then he must also be doing well in NoVA.

Guess ACORN will have to bring in those pre-marked ballots that insure victory for the Dem candidates across this land.

Good!!! I have seen scant few signs/stickers for Deeds, while McDonnell’s are easily seen.

I so hope the GOP trio wins here. We need a turnaround in the Old Dominion.

The big thing is the WAPO. Now, the candidates have to be careful not to be trapped and then distorted, as the WAPO managed to insinuate racism with Opie and caused his campaign to completely derail.

*And everyone knows how the WAPO is nothing more than an arm of the DNC propaganda machine. Birds of a feather and all that...

Public Policy Polling is a strictly RAT outfit. McDonnell et al could be doing a tad better than the poll acknowledges.

How did this happen? With The Messiah in the White House, state run media have been telling us the Republicans are through. You mean voters might be catching on to Zero’s failures?

At least winning statewide office is a launching pad to the Senate. Consider it a development ground...

McDonnell is talking about “jobs, jobs, jobs and jobs,” the right message for these times. Deeds is talking our transportation needs (hence public works jobs) as opposed to how he would help a free market economy grow that will create real long lasting jobs. If PPP, a dem polling firm, has McDonnell +6 I would think the real number is McDonnell +8.

It’s a long way from today to election day in November 2010 and during that time the DemonCraps will waste trillions of dollars and may kill the economy.

Good message! And the right message, IMHO. Spending a trillion on pork will not get this economy moving.

Glad to see transportation is up there too. The interstate from Richmond to D.C. is the worst non-city freeway I've been on. It can take hours to get from here to there.

Don’t fret, my friends.

I’m sure the VA GOP will find SOME way to flush the advantage down the crapper.

How about inviting John McCain to stump for the GOP candidates in VA? Colin Powell?

Ooh, Ooh, I know: Declare that instituting measures to address global warming will be a priority of your tenure, and that under your leadership VA will be “carbon-neutral” by 2050.

No, wait, I got a good one: in order to shore up your support among “moderates”, secure the endorsement of the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence.

God, I’ve lost all hope. Can you tell?

“McDonnell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in northern Virginia. His father, John McDonnell, was a retired United States Air Force officer. His mother, Emma, worked at Mount Vernon. McDonnell graduated from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972.[1][3]”

You’re exactly right, I stand corrected, the above is from Wiki, sorry about that.

I’m glad to see the demagoguery of McDonnell being the Pat Robertson candidate isn’t working. If the GOP swepp all 3 statewide office, it will be a major slap in the face of Tim Kaine, DNC Chair.

What’s significant is that PPP has Obama’s approval ratings in Va at +48 / -46.
