Vice President Joe Biden is expected to announce Wednesday that three major hospital associations have agreed to provide as much as $160 billion in savings to pay for a health care overhaul, according to sources close to the negotiations.
The timing of the announcement is aimed at sustaining momentum for health reform as Democratic congressional leaders embark on a critical five-week period in which they hope to pass bills out of the Senate and House by the August recess.

Hell, I remember when Bush and Cheney merely MET with big oil companies, they were pissing themselves trying to get details.
People, hospitals don’t have $160 billion. They can’t afford loosing that much more income. This is a major big deal.
The Obama camp is collectively literally nuts.
It’s not fascism when Democrats do it.
This statement is utter nonsense! What are the hospital associations promising, reduced costs? What are the assumptions? What data were used? What methodology to be able to say "as much as?" How can Biden back up this assertion?
Our health care system, IMO, is badly broken and in desperate need of repair via free enterprise, not more government intervention.
Right, and I have a Bridge for sale.
OOPS! I screwed up my post.....shoulda been:
“Vice President Joe Biden is expected to announce Wednesday that three major hospital associations have agreed to provide as much as $160 billion in savings to pay for a health care overhaul, according to sources close to the negotiations.”
Right, and I have a Bridge for sale.
This is money saved just like the jobs saved.
Pure baloney!
I think these companies are trying to get in while the gettin’s good, so-to-speak, if they believe they will be forced to deal one way or another later on.
All these “savings” will come out of our pockets one way or another as well.
The only hospital deal that Biden should be announcing is the one with the mental hospital that he’s checking himself into.
That is no excuse and this is totally UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Secret deals? With corporations? Where do the American Citizens fit into all of this mix?
As we continue marching on the road to serfdom...
Socialist eugentics “health” care, baby!!!
Who are these hospitals so that we can reject them and run their asses out of business.
I agree. I do think it’s very ill-advised.
The government has screwed these hospital over so bad, that they are probably thinking nationalized health care may be better for their bottom line. The indigents are bleeding them dry.
What they don’t understand, is that the government will then make it so every person bleeds them dry. The government is never going to reimburse adequately.
We’re back to ground zero, the theory that hospitals will simple have to make due on less, so that health care will be affordable. The only problem with this theory, is that the government and insurance concerns have just about bled these institutions dry already. There aren’t any more funds to cut.
Services have already been cut to the bone. The institutions are there.
Women used to stay in the hospital for a week, after child birth. When my kids were born, it was about three days. Today the women are sent home the next day.
I know this is a simple indicator of service, but it’s a better indicator than many people might think.
Every service has been cut back. The problem is, the general public isn’t familiar enough with the services provided thirty years ago, to the ones that are provided today.
There have been advances in medicine. We’re not talking about that here. We’re talking about efforts to cut the fat, that have become more than that.
People are in for a very rude awakening. I shudder to think what medicine will be like in ten years, let alone twenty.
