Obama might provide the air power for an invasion of Honduras. Remember when Clinton put Aristide back into power?

I was told this last week by friends who live in Honduras. I think I reported it on a thread about the Honduran situation.

However, my friends who live in the NW corner of the country (much nearer to Guatemala and El Savador than Nicaragua) couldn’t confirm that it was anything more than a rumor.

The interim government said it had contacted the Organization of American States to express its willingness to enter dialogue. The OAS earlier on Sunday suspended Honduras for refusing to reinstate Zelaya.

I hope that isn't true. There is nothing for them to discuss with that collection of Bolivarian vipers. The OAS has contravened its own charter by meddling in Honduran affairs.

From the Charter of the Organization of American States

Article 13

The political existence of the State is independent of recognition by other States. Even before being recognized, the State has the right to defend its integrity and independence, to provide for its preservation and prosperity, and consequently to organize itself as it sees fit, to legislate concerning its interests, to administer its services, and to determine the jurisdiction and competence of its courts. The exercise of these rights is limited only by the exercise of the rights of other States in accordance with international law.

Article 19

No State or group of States has the right to intervene, directly or indirectly, for any reason whatever, in the internal or external affairs of any other State. The foregoing principle prohibits not only armed force but also any other form of interference or attempted threat against the personality of the State or against its political, economic, and cultural elements.

Article 20

No State may use or encourage the use of coercive measures of an economic or political character in order to force the sovereign will of another State and obtain from it advantages of any kind.

Article 21

The territory of a State is inviolable; it may not be the object, even temporarily, of military occupation or of other measures of force taken by another State, directly or indirectly, on any grounds whatever. No territorial acquisitions or special advantages obtained either by force or by other means of coercion shall be recognized.

Article 22

The American States bind themselves in their international relations not to have recourse to the use of force, except in the case of selfdefense in accordance with existing treaties or in fulfillment thereof.

I believe we have a mutual defense treaty with Honduras, duly ratified by congress, that predates the leftists Obama and Zelaya by many years.

But men who ignore the Constitution of their own countries cannot be relied upon to enforce treaties that hamper their socialist agendas.

Here is some info about US military presence in Honduras.

Excerpted from US Troops Wait out Honduras Upheaval

No American forces were called back from the Soto Cano air base in Honduras, 60 miles from the capital, where about 600 U.S. forces serve on rotations.

The Pentagon has had a presence at Soto Cano since the 1980s, assisting air missions coming and going from Latin America. The hub typically gets busy for search-and-rescue operations during hurricane season.

"No more troops are coming here and none of us are leaving," reported Air Force Lt. Candace Park by telephone from Soto Cano on Monday morning.

Likewise, the U.S. Southern Command kept its group of military officers intact and on assignment at the U.S. Embassy, said Southcom spokesman Jose Ruiz from Miami. There were no plans for reinforcements or withdrawal in the capital, he said.

On Sunday, the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa posted a notice on its web site instructing Americans "to remain in their homes or hotels" unless they were leaving the country or had travel "of a life or death nature."

It also told Americans planning to travel to Honduras to stay away.

I’m just curious. What gives the OAS any jurisdiction over the affairs of a sovereign nation? And how can they force the democracy of that nation to accept a despot back as the leader of their country, when they have voted otherwise?

One question...
Where is Hillary Clinton? Do they have her on the “Biden” tour (i.e. run silent, run deep).

I find it facinating that she is rarely heard from. And when we do hear from her, she never is square with the White House line of B.S.

There is something going on here. Where is the press? Can’t they see this as well?

Freepers - it may be time to organize a freedom brigade and fly to Honduras! I know that if the Nic’s attack Honduras over their legitimate removal of an Ortega/Chavez dictator-in-the-making we need to give them our full support.

Is this the first front in the next stage of the war against Communisim? If Obama is too weak, compromised or fascist-loving to fight it we will need to do it on our own.

So... What can WE do to aid them? Can a state send their guard units to help out? Can a state put together an adhoc “militia” to come to the aid of a free nation?

Is there something we can do “internally” to defeat the enemy of freedom?

Think outside the box...

These militaries are roughly comparable, equipment-wise. Honduras probably has better troops and training. One big problem I could see is Chavez using Nicaragua as a proxy, and maybe even sending some troops or aircraft. Direct invasion is impossible for Chavez, and he has no real power projection capability, but it wouldn’t take a whole lot to give the Nicaraguans an advantage.

I recall the Venezuelan Air Force doing some air refueling, but was that something they did with the Russians or a capability they have themselves?
