Reporting from Washington -- A day after Alaska Gov. Sara Palin resigned, a federal official in her home state dismissed one potential explanation for her sudden and unexpected resignation -- a rumored FBI investigation into the former Wasilla mayor on public corruption charges.
Despite rumors of a looming controversy after Palin's surprise announcement Friday that she will leave office this month, some of them published in the blogosphere, the FBI's Alaska spokesman said the bureau had no investigation into Palin for her activities as governor, as mayor or in any other capacity.
"There is absolutely no truth to those rumors, that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. "It's just not true."
Gonzalez added that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments that could exclude any kind of probe.

"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country. And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make."
Sad night for the losers. And by losers I mean basically everyone in DC and all of the media. They seemed to be hoping for a big scandal here.
I hope those who are maligning Sarah Palin are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Enough is enough. Sarah is 100% justtified to pursue them legally and may her attorneys be relentless in pursuit of those who falsely accuse her.
Lock and Load!!!
Did you find it obscene, (as I did,) that not one single “pundit,” conservative or otherwise, actually understood what We the People grasped immediately? Sarah is OURS, NOT THEIRS!!!!
Yes, on both counts!
I just hate all of them at this point. They can all go to hell. The only “conservatives” I heard came on fox to speculate that something bad must be coming.
And it must, I mean for her to resign and not hold a cocktail party and tell them first it must be something bad right?
I sat and watched the critters on FoxNews make their remarks about Palin and could not believe what I was hearing. These people have absolutely no connection to the real world. Even those whom I had a modicum of respect for, Charles Krauthammer in particular, were so narrowly tuned the Beltway, all their pronouncements were not even relevant to how we see Sarah Palin at all. Not even a little bit.
Ah, but THEN, watching Bulls and Bears this morning, I watched the money guys cheering her on. They seem to believe that just her announcement will be good for the market. Fancy that....HOPE....from Wall Street.

____________
I agree and they can start with Huffington, Kos and Democratic Underground who continue to lie and falsely accuse her. Celebrities sue and win for tabloids, etc. doing this sh*t, time for Sarah to make them pay for their lies.
I’d love to see her start with the two DNC heffers in Alaska, the ones who’ve filed all the bogus ethics charges against her.
The DNC has no use for those two anymore and will do nothing to protect them and I hope Palin take them for everything possible. Those two will roll over so fast on their “sponsors” - get out your popcorn.
They cost her 500k, they tried to ruin her financially - it’s time conservatives stopped playing nice. I pray she starts with those two and move right on down the line.
Sarah has my full support.
I looked at HuffPo for the very first time today because someone on another thread pointed to an article there. I had to take a shower when I was finished. And I am not going back.
Gotta love the L.A.Times. Nice to see them upholding their "journalistic standards" by running a story based on the trustworthy source known as the blogosphere.
I guess when you go dumpster diving, for nearly a year, and still cannot come up with any dirt on her you go to the next best thing. The blogosphere. How professional.
Wasn’t it the DailyKos that started the vicious rumor that Trig was actually Sarah’s daughters baby after Todd got her pregnant?
These people deserve everything that’s coming to them, an so much more.

Yeah, it was a surprise that they got out front there with the FBI refutation of this rumor, but when I checked, they seemed to be the only ones who had actually bothered to verify the story.
Shocking, I know.
Bill Kristol was supportive of Palin a bit.. thought it could be very smart move..

The rumor mongering, hatefilled demotrolls looking like the idiots they are.
Of course there is nothing to this "scandal". There never was anything to all the other fabricated "scandals" as well. The lefty hate machine of personal distraction just got some rocks in it's gears.
Absolutely. They've also gone after baby Trig. It takes a real sleazeball to attack this child and his mother, and ALL mothers of babies like Trig across this nation. These people have no morals, scruples or sense of common decency.
Time for the piper to be paid IMHO and as much as I'm anti-attorney, those maliciously making false and despicable accusations about Sarah Palin and her family deserve to meet Sarah's attorneys and present their accusations in a court of law so everyone in the nation can see the Huffington, Kos, DU and MSM Palin-hatemonger maggots squirm.
I agree wholeheartedly! However, I hear from good authority that an incumbent public official - in Alaska, at least - cannot sue for defamation of character, nor can they sue retroactively after leaving office. I’m not guaranteeing the accuracy of this, but I believe the source is good.
Moooooo.
Sara has left, so now the Lt Gov, Sean Parnell is the new (or will soon be) Gov.
Alaska's constitutional framers left to the Legislature the task of penciling in the line of succession for the top executive posts and determining when the top office can been deemed vacant by absence or disability. The Legislature in 1959 set the mechanism for succession, but has yet to address the vacancy determination issue, which may come back to haunt us someday (like say, now).
Lawmakers decided the best thing was to allow governors — back then, they wanted the strongest chief executive possible — to “appoint, from among the officers who head the principal departments of the state government or otherwise, a person to succeed to the office of lieutenant governor if the office of lieutenant governor becomes vacant.” (What exactly, do you think, does “or otherwise” mean? Could it allow a governor to select from outside the Cabinet?) The appointment requires a majority confirmation vote of a joint session of the Legislature and the appointee serves at the “pleasure of the governor.”
The new Lt Gov (required) is not the Chief of the Dept of Corrections as is current law - new Lt Gov will be the Commander, Alaska Nat’l Guard - Major General Craig Campbell.
A very good choice. But another odd twist.
Why? The current head of the Dept of Corrections is an old time Palin chum. He declined the job, knowing he would be the center of another firestorm of accusations of cronyism within the State Governors offices.
Kristol was tepid, but needed to stick out his jaw after attacking then being attacked by Steve Schmidt over Sarah.
His "support" was faltering and weak and I don't think he truly got it either.
OTOH, John Batchelor calls her Joan of Arc.
joan of arc was exactly what i was thinking too.. she mentioned deep prayer.. what if she got a sign from God to retire..
Hola, Eric.
Since you are currently nothing more than a drone who does the bidding of a communist POS, would you actually tell us the truth even if you were actually hounding a great American like Sarah Palin?
Is this what you are referring to?
What if her visit to the troops made her realize that her voice needed to be raised louder to protect what they have fought and died for since this country's inception?
She has a son in Iraq. We see the uptick in insurgent activity there as a direct result of the obama policies.
The "surge" in Afghanistan is getting good Marines and Soldiers killed for WHAT exactly?
Ralph Peters is beside himself with anger over the fighting in Afghanistan because any result is only temporary and they KNOW it. It's for show and our Troops are being sacrificed. NOT for freedom, NOT for helping the Afghan people build a democracy, but as a meaningless diversion by obama to give the illusion that he is somehow interested in OUR national security. It is evil, and it is ridiculous.
Did you find it obscene, (as I did,) that not one single pundit, conservative or otherwise, actually understood what We the People grasped immediately? Sarah is OURS, NOT THEIRS!!!!I find that obscene.
“”There is absolutely no truth to those rumors, that we’re investigating her or getting ready to indict her,” Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. “It’s just not true.”
Just what is your problem with this statement from agent Eric Gonzalez?
Heaven knows what Obama and other democrat criminals are doing with inside information such as this.

What makes you think that the FBI is trustworthy if they are tipping Obama off before they conduct a raid on his criminal subordinates?
“What if her visit to the troops made her realize that her voice needed to be raised louder to protect what they have fought and died for since this country’s inception?”
I don’t remember exactly how she said it, but I came away with the impression that she saw how these troops are fighting for their families, for Alaska, but most of all - for America. And that they understand the limited time they have in order to be successful, and the urgency of their duty. (Time is fleeting as my old man used to say!)
The same goes for Sarah. Her family is important. Alaska is important. But RIGHT NOW, America is in danger and time is short.
I think you are off track on this. The Alaska FBI guy who categorically denied the charges works there since almost 10 years... regardless of how much you’d trust the FBI, Palin’s lawyer also emphasized that there is absolutely no truth to the rumors. We know that the rumors are BS, and the FBI statements support that point.
So let me 'splain that to ya. I didn't say she was mine. I said she is OURS. It simply meant that outside the beltway is a world that those who inhabit it, (the beltway,) do not understand.
None of them understand or care what the rest of us think or feel. They pretend to. Sarah DOES understand and she speaks to the world outside of their narrow VERSION of the world because she isn't from their world. She is from the REAL world that most of us here, I hope, inhabit.
Your outrage seems a bit skewed here. Could you please explain how you came up with your conclusion? I'm serious.
If Sarah Palin wants to fly kites in Timbuktu, she is free to do whatever she, and she alone, decides is best for her. Being proud of her doesn't mean I/we claim her. I/we am/are proud to support her in any endeavor she attempts. What is wrong with that in your eyes?
I would think that she welcomes our support.
"White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the Department of Justice told the White House on Thursday morning of its planned raid.
However, Gibbs declined to comment on whether the White House was aware of the investigation before Thursday."

Is there anything professional about this behavior?
NO, and it should send shockwaves through anyone who is expected to trust law enforcement officials to act professionally.
NO, and it should send shockwaves through anyone who is expected to trust law enforcement officials to act professionally.
Should read:
NO, and it should send shockwaves through anyone who is expected to trust Senior FBI and DOJ officials to act professionally.
As it stands, the allegations are false, and the FBI and her lawyer are refuting the allegations.
I see nothing suspicious here. Just some idiot lefty rumor-mongering being crushed by reality.
I am grateful that Sarah's lawyers have provided an answer that is synomous with what the FBI drones reported, and I am grateful to you for clarifying this to me.
However, the FBI and DOJ senior officials are anything but professional now that I know about the fact that they have defiled their professions with partisan "tip offs."
There is no room for justice in the Republic if partisan investigations and "tip-offs" are oozing out of the FBI and DOJ leadership to a communist POS like Obama.
Obama and his thugs will simply use the information and time to cover their tracks and destroy evidence that would otherwise expose them as the dangerous criminals they are.
I’ll explain, sure.
I notice that everyone is talking about Sarah, what she needs to do, what they want her to say, where they want her to go. They wax Exalted Poetry about her, or depict her as John Wayne, or sometimes, Mad Max.
I’m getting the sense that this woman is none of these things, and doesn’t want to be any of them either. She’s just a housewife and a PTA mom from a small town. I don’t think she wants to be your political DragonSlayer. I don’t think she can be, and I think she knows it. I think the pressure from all sides has gotten to her and that is what drove her out of elected office. Not just the media attacks and the witchhunts, but also her own following pulling her in all directions, demanding more from her than she was willing or able to deliver.
Thank you for explaining.
I could agree with you IF she hadn’t said she was still in the fight, IF she had not specifically asked for public feedback when she posted her announcement on her official website, IF she had not told folks on Twitter to “stay tuned,” and IF she would have shut down her PAC.
If, or when, she says, that’s it, no more, I will respect that as well.
In the meantime, calling her “ a housewife, just a PTA mom from a small town” who can’t handle it is extremely belittling...and I think she would be the first one to tell you so.
Let others know NO FBI probe.
Gonzalez isn’t going to categorically deny something, if the opposite is true. If there was an investigation, he’d given no comment or some other wishy washy statement. You are reading far too much into it.
Keep in mind that "Fair and Balanced" puts them in the middle, not on the Right. The other networkd have the Left covered.
I still have no reason to trust the senior leadership based on their behavior surrounding the "tip offs" of March 2009 which provided time and ability for the criminals to destroy evidence.
The senior leadership at the FBI and DOJ is corrupt with partisan politics, which is why I do not trust them in the slightest.
Back to the subject of this thread, it is the response from Sarah's legal advisor that matters most.
