Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran
The Times ^ | July 5, 2009 | Uzi Mahnaimi in Tel Aviv and Sarah Baxter

Posted on 07/04/2009 10:01:56 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.

Earlier this year Meir Dagan, Mossad’s director since 2002, held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility.

The Israeli press has already carried unconfirmed reports that high-ranking officials, including Ehud Olmert, the former prime minister, held meetings with Saudi colleagues. The reports were denied by Saudi officials.

“The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week.

"I don't think Israel will do anything, but even if they do attempt something, they won't be successful".

They WILL be successful in their primary strategic goal...the provocation of Iran to all-out war. They know they are dealing with a nation that can not, could not, contain it's emotion and pride.

An Israeli strike in Iran means Iran MUST respond with everything they have....attempt to close the strait...activate every terrorist on it's payroll...activate Hamas and Hizbollah...and every agent/force in place in Iraq.

The US must then respond to protect the free flow of oil and innumerable allies in the region, not to mention US troops on the ground in Iraq.

No sir, an Israeli strike on Iran will gain them great benefit and will be wildly successful.

That may be part of the reason, but despite Saudi Arabia being an Islamic Monarchy, they are also a modern society and know that Iran threatens their economic and political interests throughout the world.

I’d be very interested in a citation for that.

I went back and checked the information I had read on the event and while Iran was initially blamed or the event, they actually had no involvement.

And the year was 1979, not 1977 like I had earlier thought.

The perpetrators were Wahhabists and the leader was a Saudi named Juhayman al Uteybi.

It has been argued that the concessions made by the House of Saud in exchange for religious approval of a military assault on The Grand Mosque gave Wahhabism the strong entrenchment it currently has in Saudi Arabia and provided the means for their current projection o radical Islamic ideology.

I thought this book wrapped it up pretty decently:

I need to know more about the Sunni and Shia war..

The division arose over a disagreement on who was to succeed Muhammad after his death. The Shi'ites argued that only a relative or Muhammad should get the honor, and they specifically had Ali bin Abi Talib, Muahammad's cousin & son-in-law, in mind. The Sunnis argued that since Muhammad left no instruction on how his sucessor should be chosen or whom he should be, any devout Muslim was eligible. A group of scholars elected Abu Bakr, a friend of Muhammad and the first male convert to Islam, to become the first caliph.

Ali eventually did become a caliph (the fourth one), but Shi'ites reject the legitimacy of the first three, and of the Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties that followed. The instead recognize a line of imams, or sucessors to Ali. Different branches of Shi'ism recognize different numbers of imams, but most recognize twelve (and await the twelfth).

Ali's first son Hasan tried to grab power but was kicked out by the fifth caliph. Ali's other son Hussein also tried to grab the reins, but the sixth caliph Yazid beheaded him. That's why Hussein is considered a martyr to Shi'ites.

The war continued, and eventually a Shi'ite named Ubaydallah decided it was time to create a caliphate dedicated to restoring the rule to descendents of Muhammad, and to counter the Sunni Abbasids. So he founded the Fatimid caliphate in North Africa. Other Shi'a dynasties rose and fell alongside Sunni ones, and they still hate each other to this day.

Just four Muslim nations have a Shi'a majority: Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Bahrain. Iran has taken advantage of this and messed around in all those countries; al-Sadr's Mahdi Army in Iraq, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and sympathy for Iran among Bahrain's population despite the Sunni monarchy. Because Syria's rulers are Shi'ite (although a different branch than Ahmadinejad), they allied themselves with Iran because they had no friends in the rest of the Arab world. Syria's population is mostly Sunni though and hates Assad, so I wonder if, under a decent US president, the CIA could help stir up anti-government movements and regime change.

The Saudi and UAE forces combined would be the only way to really pound Iran. They could contribute 136 air superiority fighters and 185 strikers that would more than double the strike force and they are much closer to home than the IDF.
if the Saudis put bombs on their F5 fleet that could make it 285 strikers.

15th century is too advanced for Saudi.

Women can’t drive, can’t work, couldn’t get an education until the 70s (and the only reason King Faysal changed that was due to persuasion from his wife), couldn’t hold ID cards until the government decided “modern” life required them to (although they’re issued to a male guardian, not the woman herself), and can’t leave the house without a male relative’s permission and then can’t go anywhere without being accompanied by a male relative and walking five feet behind him looking at the ground wearing an abaya.

The men who do work (unemployent is high there) are lazy and won’t do menial jobs because they consider them to be beneath them, and won’t do technical jobs requiring hard work and intensive study because they think that’s too demanding. So everyone gets a degree in Islamic philosophy/theology and can’t get a job to save his butt.

The men who drive are the worst drivers on the planet. Not only does the kufiyyah (sheet over their heads) obscure their peripheral vision, but they carry this “insha’allah” mindset, which assumes Allah pre-determines everything so they have no control over anything, to the road with them, which is extremely dangerous. Something like 3.5% of the entire male population has been in a car accident.

Saudis are more accustomed to being served than to serving. Most families have a foreign maid do their housework, and have to import most of their work force from third world countries to do their dirty work because Saudis themselves can’t seem to run their own country.

They’re too busy censoring new ideas and critics to move forward. I’d say the 7th century is more fitting.

I don’t know. Certainly something the Sa3udis wouldn’t like to talk about in public. There’s a paper in the UK that is known to be used as an outlet for information/misinformation from Israel. I don’t know if this is it because I forgot the name of the paper.

Al Sa3ud would likely agree to Israel doing this if they calculate their regime can survive/escape a bad reaction from their people. They would obviously not like this to be known. The idea that average Sunnis would cheer Israel for taking down Iran is nonsense, & the only people who consider Jews more legit than Shi3a are Bin Ladenites & other extremists who consider Shi3a infidels who are not even people of the book. Average Arab Sunni consider Shi3a to be wrong Muslims, but Muslims still. Jews are considered beneath contempt. Iran’s anti-Israel actions are very popular with most of the Arab public, but not the regimes. Regimes care more about their survival than about destroying Israel (not that they don’t wish for it). The people have different priorities. This is a source of conflict between the regimes & their people & popular culture is full of songs & writings that slam their regimes for not fighting Israel enough. Arabs will consistently name Israel as their biggest threat, not Iran.

Iran is admired for being at the forefront of anti-Israel activities & also for being a thorn in the side of the west but not for any other because Persians are not liked. There will be serious trouble for any regime caught red-handed aiding Israel’s attack on Iran, or even just perceived to be. Maybe not immediately, but definitely it will come out eventually. This is why America is not so enthusiastic about this idea & Israel must do it without expecting praise or even permission.

You have tiny pockets of Sunni Arab supporters spread about among some countries. They represent no one but themselves & have little power or influence especially since it’s not even acceptable to state this in public.

It is a believable idea that the state department would want to undermine Israel, but the theory on Ha'aretz right now is based on the fact that Biden came out and said Israel can do what they want with Iran:

U.S. wants Iran to know it can be attacked.

In this scenario, Israel is the heavy, the bad cop that the U.S. just can't get a handle on and who knows when the bad cop might flip out and do something crazy.

Sa3udi denial coming in. May or may not be true of course. & I checked & this paper is indeed the paper used by Israel for leaks, so true or not, we know that this is something that our government wants known.

http://www.thenational.ae/article/20090706/FOREIGN/707059859/1002

RIYADH // Saudi analysts have rejected media reports that the kingdom has given permission to Israel to use its air space for an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The Sunday Times reported yesterday that the head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.

Jamal Khashoggi, an expert on Saudi foreign policy and editor-in-chief of Al Watan newspaper, said the report was false and was another attempt to provoke the country into revealing its plans towards Iran.

Mr Khashoggi said Saudi Arabia was not involved in any bilateral discussion with any countries regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.

“I don’t think that Saudi Arabia is interested in any discussion on a possible military move against Iran with the US, its major ally, let alone its foe,” Mr Khashoggi said, referring to Israel. The Israeli prime minister’s office also denied the report, telling reporters the story “lacks all factual basis”.

As I said here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2285926/posts?page=145#145

THESE TWO STATEMENTS

SAUDI’S AND BIDEN

ARE VERY SOBERING TO ME.

They lend support to prophetic sources that have been indicating that we will have WWIII/IV as early as Aug/Sept and before Dec.

I don’t believe either Biden or the Saudi’s would have made such statements without the globalist power brokers/controllers having indicated such and even tasked them with saying such.

God only knows. I don’t know if prayer can delay or not.

However, the sources asserting that such is very very close AT THE DOOR have become very numerous, imho.

Let the wise prayerfully consider.

And the IRIAF can dispatch its rickety Tomcats and MiG-29 Fulcrums to meet the Israeli airborne threat, but they’ll have to be eliminated by F-15Cs first, or F-22Is, if they can be sold to them. Then the Ra’ams and Sufas can move in.
