Sarah Palin Outsmarts the Left [Good read]
Fox News ^ | July 4, 2009 | Peter Ferrara

Posted on 07/04/2009 8:48:42 AM PDT by upchuck

Sarah Palin's resignation as Governor of Alaska is a brilliant liberating move for her career, and a potential turning point for the national conservative movement.

The biggest problem with her responsibility as Governor of Alaska is that the state is so far away from the rest of America. No one hears of the good work she has been doing there, and the left is free to paint their own false caricature of her.

...

I am hoping she spends two weeks of every month now touring the states doing fundraisers for a the sweeping Republican revival in 2010 that is now developing. I hope she establishes a new national grassroots organization to fight for conservative causes. And I hope she starts a new national think tank in Washington.

She could pick up the mantle for social conservatism for the late Paul Weyrich in Washington, reinvigorating the pro-life cause and defense of traditional values. She could advocate sane, grown up energy policies through these organizations, favoring increased production of traditional as well as alternative energy, including nuclear power, while opposing fruitcake ideas like cap- and-trade taxes, and runaway corporate welfare that would bring back Jimmy Carter's synfuels. She should also lead the nation's mothers to oppose mandating replacement of incandescent light bulbs with the new mercury poison gas bulbs.

IMHO, it says a lot that this is the first post in quite some time where I didn't have to check "Crime/Corruption - News and discussion of crime, corruption government abuse, power grabs, and scandal" as a topic.

C'mon Sarah, do your thing. We're all waiting.

This would be the only sane reason for her to resign, besides being sick of the attacks on her family.

The key for her (and any small govt person) to remember is that they are going to rake her over the coals NO MATTER WHAT SHE DOES in the MSM.

So her decisions should never be based on turning the MEDIA around. They are going to try to spin this has her quitting and not capable. But if she stayed, she would be attacked as crazy, corrupt, stupid etc etc.

She is making a tactical gamble that it is better for her to be in the national arena to combat the attacks vs staying in Alaska and being tied down. She gains “experience” but gets bashed like a pinada while she gains it.

She picked not being a pinada.

As long as your career isn't in predicting the future, jerk. You made your case yesterday, not well, and not convincingly, but laughable. Now go back to your smarmy Romney headquarters and tell them that Romney, nor any other mainline Republican candidate will fare well this cycle. Yeah, I know you said you weren't for Romney. I guess I didn't believe a word you had to say.

Very well said. You nailed it! One thing about Sarah is that she will never change for the media. What you see is what you get which is what we need instead of all the spin we usually get from candidates.

Sarah is not Ivy League or from the East Cosst which IMHO puts her at the top. She shares another thing with President Reagan — Journalism.

Her announcement made this 4th of July a whole lot better.

I have been reading the other comments on the Palin announcement and the common thread is similar to the one that was espoused all day yesterday mainly by CNN, MSMBC and the Washington based State Run Media media. Her speech was explained to us, and some have accepted that defination rather than make their own judgement on what they heard her said.

This is something of a distortion. No one hears about what the governor of a neighboring state is doing, either, or even the governor of their own state, unless the media are willing to tell them.

There has been plenty of reporting from Alaska--all by the usual liars in the MSM. We have heard some of the news about the gas pipeline here in FR, but I doubt whether anyone else knows about it. All they know is what her daughter's opportunist ex-boyfriend has been saying about her on TV, or the latest drivel from McCain's staffers.

I'm not sure I see that changing any time soon. The press will continue to dog her and demean her, any chance they get.

That said, she has my support if she wants it. I don't see anyone better out there.

I think it was a gutsy, interesting move. Might hurt her for a while in certain quarters, but I think once she steps out and becomes a vocal leader on things like federalism and energy independence, and helping out with fundraisers for worthy candidates, the value of this move will become quickly apparent. Especially if she manages to effectively slice and dice Obama (which she’s proven HIGHLY capable of doing already, unlike most of the GOP deadwood).

Maybe it will propel her to the nomination, maybe not. I think she’s just going to follow the aforementioned path, gauge where it takes her, and if the GOP remains the pathetic mess it’s been, she might very well decide to pick up the reins herself and go for the big prize.

Whatever the case, I’m steadfastedly in her corner! No media lie campaign or backstabbing RINO’s will sever my devotion to this amazing gal.

You think resigning from office in the middle of your first term is a good career move for anyone who wants to get elected ever again?
Hah.

Once you leap from the train, you can’t get back on.
Obviously Sarah doesn’t want back on.
Who could blame her when she’s got so many people putting all their hopes on her, expecting — no, demanding — that she run for President when she clearly doesn’t want to have to put herself and her family through that kind of scrutiny and abuse ever again.

It wasn’t the media and the Democrats that drove her from office so much as it was her own fans.

Jefferson to Spafford March, 1814

“I fear nothing for our liberty from the assaults of force; but I have seen and felt much, and fear more from English books, English prejudices, English manners, and the apes, the dupes, and designs among our professional crafts.

When I look around me for security against these seductions, I find it in the wide spread of our agricultural citizens, in their unsophisticated minds, their independence and their power, if called on, to crush the Humists of our cities, and to maintain the principles which severed us from England. I see our safety in the extent of our confederacy, and in the probability that in the proportion of that the sound parts will always be sufficient to crush local poisons. In this hope I rest, and tender you the assurance of my esteem and respect.”

I frequent several of the more “radical” freedom-oriented boards and they all seem to share a common quirk: There’s plenty of keyboard commandos who see a need for armed revolution and when it starts they’ll join in but right now they want to protect their families from government retaliation.

Do any of us think Sarah is all that much different from us? After all, wasn’t her appeal based on her being just like ordinary Americans? So why are we surprised that she has decided to protect her family from forty more months of constant pain and suffering?

Now, with those questions posed I have to say that I have no more idea why she has made this move than anyone else. Perhaps she’s getting her ducks in a row to make a run at Obama. Or maybe she’s just tired of dodging sniper bullets from the media. Whatever her reason, I’ll support her. And when the ballot is set in front of me in 2012 I will not cast my vote for Romney or any of the other Beltway Commandos.

The only wasted vote is the one you have to hold your nose to cast.

Hey, I’m not saying it was an idiotic decision.
I think it was a smart decision to get out of elected politics for good.

She made the right choice, unlike her decision to be McCain’s running mate.
Look at what that decision put her and her family through.
It’s no wonder she’s quitting.

I’m not one of those people who think this is some sort of Machiavellian scheme of hers to position herself to be President.
I think she is honestly done with seeking elected office.
She’s going to write her book and speak exclusively to friendly audiences below the media radar. that is where she’s happy being.

Whatever office Gov. Palin seeks, may the RNC support her 100%! If the RNC had supported Duncan L Hunter, America would be in better positions all around today. When the RNC sheds it’s rapt allegiance to RINOS I will support the RNC. Not before! For years now I have supported individual candidates directly. Unfortunately, some of them have paid the price for inept campaign managers.

Peter Ferrara needs to wake up a wee bit more before he starts making sense.

I don’t agree with this statement entirely:

“The biggest problem with her responsibility as Governor of Alaska is that the state is so far away from the rest of America. No one hears of the good work she has been doing there, and the left is free to paint their own false caricature of her.”

In the Information Age, distance doesn’t mean a stinking thing. Things go in DC that people in DC never hear about all the time, every day, such as voting for a bill that wasn’t even written. If Palin were to sneeze in an unladylike fashion in the freaking South Pole, we would here about it for weeks.

I hope she establishes a new national grassroots organization to fight for conservative causes. And I hope she starts a new national think tank in Washington.

We already have a good number of conservative think tanks, organizations, advocates and spokespersons.

What we are in desperate need of is conservative politicians who are willing to go out and fight.

The author of this article consigns Sarah to a career as organizer, advocate, spokesperson and think tanker.

It's a bunch of conservative self-loathing, second fiddle-loving rubbish.

Sarah needs to stay in politics and compete for the GOP nomination for president in 2012.
