Colin Powell Jumping Ship? (now openly voicing reservations about Obama's policies)
American Thinker ^ | 7/3/2009 | George Joyce

Posted on 07/04/2009 6:32:08 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Add Colin Powell to the ranks of Americans waking up from the Obama induced stupor. The Washington Times is reporting that Mr. Powell has voiced serious reservations in a CNN interview about Obama’s big government agenda and its consequences for our nation and our children.

In the CNN interview to be aired Sunday on “State of the Union with John King” Powell cautioned Mr. Obama about "budgets that are running into the multi-trillions of dollars" and "a huge, huge national debt that, if we don't pay for in our lifetime, our kids and grandkids and great-grandchildren will have to pay for it."

Haven’t conservatives been issuing these same warnings ever since Obama began his presidential campaign? It seems rather disingenuous for Mr. Powell, an early Obama supporter, to suddenly have this epiphany after a mountain of economic evidence has portended the frightening consequences of President Obama’s budget.

Maybe it’s Powell’s way of distancing himself from the Democrats after Obama’s truly outrageous handling of recent events in Honduras and in Iran.

Remember about a month ago when Newsweek’s Evan Thomas gushed:

"I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God."

I guess even Colin Powell assumes that God would be able to balance a budget.

I donn’t give a damn about what Powell has to say now. He made his choice when he backed Hussein and now he can live with the ramifications. Screw him.

When the polls were high for Obama, Powell supported him and his socialist policies. Now that the polls are down for Obama, he questions those very same socialist policies he once supported.

This is what happens when someone has no principals to stand on.

No one should follow or listen to Colin Powell. He is no leader. He is unworthy.

You hit the nail on the head...Powell looks like a fool for basing him endorsement soley on race and emotion. He’s probably scared to death of getting this pocket picked.

I've dislike Colin Powell ever since he stopped a full-out invasion of Baghdad that would have ended the butcher and spared a generation of American youth the need to go back and end him.

I wouldn't trust that bureaucrat with anything.

Powell exemplifies those who voted for Barry who are not willing to come out and admit that “this is not the change I/we voted for.” Instead, they question aspects of what Barry, the Media, and the White House pump staff have repeatedly touted as “your getting what you voted for...we won.”

Colin Powell was always a careerist who changed tack with the prevailing political winds.

If the winds blow in Sarah Palin’s direction, he’ll change tack again and praise her as the one who can save America from Obama’s folly.

Powell is an opportunist and racist it is that simple. He publically supported the zero during the election. He has to live and die politically with that. He wants to call himself a republican or whatever, fine by me; BUT he will never get my vote for anything, not even dog catcher. Maybe he and Specterhead can run for some office in PA under the FRINO party (FORMER RINOs). A turncoat is what both Powell and Specterhead are: use a party to achieve their personal agenda of getting into or maintaining power.

That is all that really needs to be said on this matter. Powell made it clear to all during the election how shallow his Republican views were. He may even have some reservations about Obama, but what you said will dominate his actions.

Powell is useless to the Democrats as a Democrat, and you can believe they have let him know that. He needs to reestablish some Republican credentials before the Democrats can use him as a tool against Republicans again.

Powell said in 2000 that he would serve under Gore or Bush. With such wide difference in beliefs between those two, I have since seen Powell as a person who cares only to be the winning side even if not in the nation’s best interest.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/19/powell.transcript/

Sun October 19, 2008

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama Sunday during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

(snip)

And frankly, it was in the period leading up to the conventions, and then the decisions that came out of the conventions, and then just sort of watching the responses of the two individuals on the economic crisis. It gave me an opportunity to evaluate their judgment, to evaluate their way of approaching a problem, to evaluate the steadiness of their actions. And it was at that point that I realized that, to my mind, anyway, that Sen. Obama has demonstrated the kind of calm, patient, intellectual, steady approach to problem-solving that I think we need in this country.

(snip)

... Now I guess the message this week is, “We’re going to call him a socialist, Mr. Obama is now a socialist, because he dares to suggest that maybe we ought to look at the tax structure that we have.”

Taxes are always a redistribution of money. Most of the taxes that are redistributed go back to those who paid them, in roads and airports and hospitals and schools. And taxes are necessary for the common good. And there is nothing wrong with examining what our tax structure is or who should be paying more, who should be paying less. And for us to say that that makes you a socialist, I think is an unfortunate characterization that isn’t accurate.

I don’t want my taxes raised. I don’t want anybody else’s taxes raised. But I also want to see our infrastructure fixed. I don’t want to have a $12 trillion national debt, and I don’t want to see an annual deficit that’s over $500 billion heading toward a trillion. So, how do we deal with all of this?
