Parents were banned from attending an inter-school sports day to protect pupils from kidnappers and paedophiles.

The host school said they could not prevent 'unsavoury' characters from sneaking in.

More than 270 pupils from four local primaries took part in the East Beds School Sports Partnership Athletics Day at Sandy Upper School in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire last week.

I guess the teachers don’t like competition.

Wow! Punish everyone for the faults of a few. Although I guess if my kids were in any danger it is smart to be careful.

With this policy, the parents don't get to see the interplay between the teachers and the children.

Right, I was wondering who will watch the watchers. The NEA and Schools have begun to think of themselves as surrogate parents to all of our children. In reality, the school officials knowitalls have become the education/propaganda arm of the government. Long past is the time where schools first reflected the local community. I think the Amish were on to this along time ago. Home Schoolers too.

But then what is the purpose of a sports day? Who are the spectators?

I don’t know but there is clearly a problem because you don’t just make rules like this out of the blue. I think that either had some nasty old dudes staring at young kids or someone stopped a potential kidnapping. Something is behind this and the school is taking the safe way out. If the facts come out, I would be interested in know what is really going on.

From the linked thread: "Mrs Ethelston's Church of England Primary School, in Uplyme, Devon, prohibited photos and video filming, claiming it was due to changes in child protection and images legislation."

Legislation (government) would seem to be behind this.

Oh figures. I would support the school but not the government getting involved again...what is it with government? You would think that they would have more important thing to do than get involved with school issues.

This is why government run schools are bad. Pull your kids out of them and demand the government return your property taxes.

Why not just have them bring tickets or get security guards?

This school is either being run by morons or run by pedophiles.

This nonsense is what happens when the state thinks it owns your children, not parents like you. Good parents out number bad parents by many many times, yet the nanny state is ready to put all into the suspect class.

*sigh* Just like Legoland wouldn’t let in a guy I know just because he didn’t have a child with him.
