London, July 02(ANI): Johnny Depp is keen on teaching his children to handle guns.

The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star, who learnt shooting at the age of six in Kentucky where he grew up, wants to pass on his experience to his kids.

"We would just go out and line up a bunch of cans and shoot with rifles, handguns and at times, submachine guns," the Daily Star quoted him as saying...

I would find it kinda hilarious if Depp became a spokesman for the NRA. I know, quite impossible, but still.

Johnny Depp was very good friends with Hunter Thompson. Hunter Thompson loved to shoot guns, all kinds of guns. This isn't that big of a stretch to think Depp wants the same for his kids.

Depp is still a Nancy boy, JMHO.

"If Depp hung out with Hunter Thompson that explains how he played his character in Pirates of the Carribean so well."

Between Thompson and Keith Richards, Depp had all inspiration he needed for that roll.

From what I understand, Depp and Thompson were quite close. I know Depp was at his funeral and I believe he had some kind of role in it as well. I enjoyed reading Thompson's books but only in the car crash sense - they really weren't that enjoyable, but for some reason I couldn't look away.

I saw “Public Enemies” on July 1. Even though I am not a Depp fan, I really enjoyed the movie and his performance. Also liked Christian Bale in his role and especially liked the actress who played Billie (Evelyn) Frechette.

Highly recommend this movie to those who are on the fence about seeing it.

We are Depp fans, I have no choice(my wife is a fanatic), and I've noticed a few interesting comments from him over the years.

IIRC, he lashed out about the "immigrants" being out of control in France and thought of moving back to the U.S. during the Bush years.

He doesn't say much about politics and doesn't come across as a bleeding heart Liberal, but I'm sure he leans farther to the Left than anybody around here does.

Ok, here’s my intel on Depp. Yes, he lives in France and is very liberal - ‘politically’. HOWEVER, and this is JUST ANECDOTAL, the typically liberal and ‘disenchanted’ youth are very pissed off at (and afraid of) the Muslims. The story I hear is that the French would good naturedly give the Germans some ribbing about how ‘’square’’ they are in their mannerisms and thinking, yet, there is kinship and likeability. There is NO joking about Moslims. There is a deep resentment formenting - if even a hatred. While the French Socialist youth and middle age population may carry their flags for ‘’whatever’’ - there’s some pretty stong evidence related to this guy about a backlash brewing.
Long story, but Depp damn well KNOWS this! (...and I’m damned happy to report it.)

Just saw “Public Enemies” and Depp was great.

I saw it today and was very impressed. Possibly the most realistic shootout scenes of any "gangster" film. Actual magazine changes and everything - Depp field-stripped that Thompson very convincingly. Even the Mauser sporter looked 100% authentic, right down to the butterknife bolt handle.

My only complaint was the failure of Depp's makeup people to putty over his ear piercings - I kinda doubt that Dillinger ever wore an earring.

Oh he pretty well freaked out when the Muslims starting going crazy in the Paris suburbs and high tailed it back to America. The suburbs of Paris have big apartment ghettoes.

He had been prattling on about how great Freance was before that. I think he just likes to be left alone and France was probably pretty low key especial compared to the toilet of Hollywood.

I would like to see the Dillinger movie because Christian Bale is very good. Told his step-mother Golria Steinem to “shut up!” at dinner one night because she would spew her feminist crap.

Johnny D grew up in KY but lived in So. Florida when he was a teen until probably 19 when his band moved to LA to try to make it. He never graduated high school.

Yes.. But it is very restictive kinda like the way CA want’s to be...

GUN LAWS — FRANCE
From: Emmanuel Baechler

If you have to go to France and to practice self defense, you are in a pretty bad situation. Concealed carry is strictly fobidden, unless you are a policeman ON DUTY, or someone like that.

Nearly all autos calibers like .380 ACP, 9mm Para, .40S&W, and .45 ACP are considered as “war caliber” (1st category).

You can get AT MOST license for “war caliber” firearms (up to seven central percussion guns), and that’s exclusively for target shooting.

For self defense, you will no more have the choice, if you can get a license for a such purpose (the frenchies are very restrictive), between .32 ACP, .38 Spal and .357 Magnum (4th category) those guns can be bought for Target shooting still with an authorisation.

Even worse, the shamy Schengen agrements, that France signed, forbid the import (ownership, manufacturing and use) of hollowpoint ammo in handguns.

...wants to pass on his experience to his kids.

Bravo for Mr. Depp. That is by far the single best way to avoid accidental fatalities and injuries associated with firearms. Kids, once they are mature enough to learn the lessons, need to be taught that firearms are not inherently evil, in spite of what the hand-wringing liberals might think. They need to know that firearms are not toys. Finally, they need to know that firearms are useful tools in all kinds of situations.

My children know the fundamentals of firearm safety, passed on from my grandparents generation to my parents, to me, to my children:

  1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. The very first thing you do when you pick up a firearm is check to see if it is loaded, period. Even if you know, or think you know that it is or is not, you find out.
  2. Never point a firearm at anything you are not prepared to shoot. Simply put, muzzle discipline prevents accidents.

These two basic rules will keep you out of trouble. Of course, the third rule is, if you need a firearm, generally you need it right now. A firearm that is locked up, or unloaded isn't much use then.

You're kidding, right? He said he moved to France because his own country was too violent and racist, IIRC. He was also one of the ones threatening to move overseas with the George Bush victories. He really did the deed. Good for him. They ought to yank his American citizenship and his passport. Did you know he based his Captain Jack Sparrow character on the cartoon character (dog) Pepe' Le Pew? He did. Mincing little....

this from 2005:

Hollywood star JOHNNY DEPP is so shocked by the riots raging through France, he’s considering abandoning his home in the country.

The FINDING NEVERLAND heart-throb moved to Europe when life in Los Angeles became too violent.

He has since divided time between the two continents - but he fears France will be scarred permanently by the current troubles.

He says, “It’s insane, that setting cars on fire is the new strike.

“I went there (to France) to live because it seemed so simple.

“Now it’s anything but. I don’t know how they’ll recover from this.”

I don’t know about Depp, but I have read that a lot of Hollywood A Listers live in Europe mainly because their laws regarding the Paparazzi are FAR more strict than in L.A, NYC etc.

B through D listers still want to seek out the cameras. A Listers get to the point where they don’t need it.

His new Dillinger movie is quite good. Reminded me a lot of the old Cagney gangster movies. Not a lot of talking. Both major characters were men of few words. Great gunfights. It wasn’t top tier of crime dramas (like the Departed), but it was close.

I have not, to this date, disliked a movie with a tommy-gun in it.

That actually may be the case. Depp strikes me as a blue-collar-type actor who loves the work, but doesn’t care so much for the fame. I can respect that. The pursuit of fame for its own sake is pretty pathetic ...
